  • InZoi, the new life simulation game from a Korean studio, stirred reactions in the sims community for its open world, active careers, gameplay , and customizable building tools. But after looking into more information, I have some updates about potential red flags for the launch of this simulation game. Here's my review and initial honest opinions- beyond the trailer.
This all comes at an exciting time for life simulation games, from paralives to life by you to project Renee and of course sims 4 packs/ expansions are still being released with sims 4 for rent right around the corner for 2023.
Stay tuned for pack reviews, gameplay commentary, and other series.

Things that I DO like about this game! and correction:
correction: not sure about cats. E simmer said they are not pets, someone else said you can possibly adopt. seems a WIP?
    Things I appreciate:
    - weather in base game: not to mention the weather itself looks really neat
    -public parks & transit
    -life stages
    -open world
-very different, but well executed graphics.
Concern: a 64 GB computer is very expensive.. for the one the creator mentioned it'd be around $4,200 USD currently
Do I think this game has potential, Yes, I do. This video is to provide concerns and caveats- and I do this for any game I cover. Above all, I want to be authentic and honest with you- even if my opinions may not be popular. Thanks for watching!

My only red flag is like the boss of all red flags: plan to release it in 2024, one year. When I hear that, I interpret it as shallow gameplay, questionable optimization, rushing to get that cash and start making money which translates into micro-transactions. I just hope that out of all those, we are not stuck with aesthetic pleasing characters but no actual personality.

yeah I feel like that's a bit startling, as it's only been in development in a year... per my understanding and research, your AAA games usually take 3-5 years on average and more complex as long as 8 plus years

@@SimmerErin given how extreme work hours are in korea and how it's really common to overwork employee's i don't see it that surprising that they're releasing earlier. in korean culture the workface is very stressful and strict and they tend to work much longer hours than in western countries, although it's bad this means the people working on this game probably work longer hours on developing and creating the game which is why they appeared to have gotten so much done in little time

They work harder and diligently, so for it to come out in 2024 is very impressive for a game in works for a year, and IF they've added so much into this game within just ONE year? Imagine what they can keep adding into the game as the years pass by. EA could never.

@@SimmerErin The standard development time for most AAA games is 2-5 years, actually. 2 is for the more formulaic games, though. Also as GodisGood said, there are many factors that would. You can actually take Sims 4 as an example. The game started full development in 2012, with having 1-2 years of prototyping before that, but this was all for the original Sims 4, which was supposed to be an online game. In 2013, the new SimCity released, which was also online, and it was a disaster, causing EA to make Sims 4 singleplayer. Then they released in 2014, after completely changing the direction of the game. And honestly, Sims 4 as it released, looked worse than Inzoi does now, as far as gameplay goes. There was so little to do.
And yeah, there are some red flags, as you said, but I'd say there is also a huge green flag in how the developers are communicating with the community on discord on what they want changed. They've made a wishlist channel where anyone can post suggestions and where anyone can vote on those suggestions. Some of the highest voted suggestions are POC hairstyles, CC, better pregnancy system, and a bunch of others.
But the whole gifting of laptops is interesting for sure. Although the price points people are mention is way off. Generally a laptop with a 4070 and 64gb of ram would be 2,500usd at most, but easily much less.

My concern is the generative AI used in the wall texture creator - as an artist, AI impacts me, my work, and my friends and colleagues very much so, so I'd like to know which generator (MidJourney, DALL-E, Adobe Firefly ect.) they used. Generative AI is controversial and I'd hate for it to bring down the game, especially with crowds of artists, writers, and content creators. I simply do not think it is a feature that is worth the later fuss over, when they could just hire some artists or use available textures to avoid it and still have a rich catalogue of choices - or simply let users upload their own textures/create them...

Many many jobs disappear when technology outdates them. We can't say let's not use electricity because people lighting streetlamps in the morning will be out of job. There are stuff that AI cannot do, it cannot be very precise, there are often some inconsistencies, and about writing, it's quite generic and uncreative. Artists just have to be original. If it's about creating walls for a game, I'm not sure that's a job worth fighting for. Artists learn to draw and paint by copying others, and others' techniques, I'm not sure how that's very different from what AI is doing to be honest.

As someone who just finished building their first high end PC let me tell you that endeavor is not cheap. I have a 4080, i5, and 32GB of ram. I could easily upgrade my ram to meet the insane requirements listed in the PC's they gave out, but the non pc enthusiast would be beyond lost. Even Life By You has reasonable specs for an open world game locked at 30fps.
Anyway, this game seemingly has a lot of promise going for it. The one screaming red flag for me would likely be the character creator not being super diverse. Body types, hair types etc, and seemingly not a whole lot of depth in systems.

For what it's worth, I don't think you were saying anything controversial; "here's what we know and here are some things I personally find concerning" seems pretty reasonable to me! 🙂 My current feeling is pretty much "it looks beautiful and it could be good; I'll wait and see." I am not interested in anything multiplayer, so if that's something one can't opt out of then this will go on the "no" list. The release date only being a year away is definitely concerning; either they've been working on it longer than they say, they're missing some core systems, or possibly they're using other companies/studios' assets to help put it together faster. (I could be way off the mark/heading into areas that aren't possible with that last one, but I can't help remembering the number of videos I've seen using the unreal engine to show how cool a game made with it could look . . . and how they looked a lot like this game.) I really do hope it will end up coming together and being a good game. I think there is room in the market for a number of life sims to succeed; I don't really see Paralives, LBY, InZoi, and even whatever the Sims is trying to become with Project Rene as being in competition with each other, because I think they're each bringing something unique to the table. At any rate, EA won't be able to have a monopoly on the life sim genre any more, and that is definitely a good thing! 😁

This company made Subnautica which is a game I loved and it has no microtransactions.☺ I'm hopeful this game won't have microtransactions either. As for the clothing choices missing from categories for certain genders and ages I simply meant that moders have for years (and still continue to this day) modded clothes and put them into the game for players. I believe I have a lot of clothes in my game that EA released for kids and now my adult sims have them like the Incheon kit with that cute backpack for kids. Lots of adult clothes have also been modded for kids now too. I have lots of Eco Living outfits for kids that were made for adults by EA. But yes the modding community is great and adds lots of things SOME people want in their game. I personally don't need/or want extreme violence, or drugs or natural birth in my game. Not putting any one thing into a category except maybe the category of "Modded In." OMG I just thought about that mod that lets you cook a baby on the grill.☺ While that's funny I'd rather that have to be added into my game with a mod 😵‍💫 In closing, I hope this game actually comes out next year, though it is often said but not done...releasing on the original release date. I do agree on a lot of what you said, and I too have some concerns, like with the babies, I noticed in one of the Simmers I watched play the game I think it was Emma Nicole, she had her character have a baby and found there isn't really much if any interactions between the parents and the babies. And they can just go off and be gone all day, leaving the baby alone with no nanny or anything, which is certainly not good and far from realistic! Also though it wouldn't completely keep me from buying it, I do think they should have cars, scooters and bikes to get around, so we don't have to run everywhere, except for sometimes using the subway!
I realized after watching some Simmers playing the game that this isn't really the same thing as say Life By You, Paralives or The Sims even, it kind like GTA 5 without the crime and with a bit of family gameplay in it! Which isn't a bad thing, I always wanted someone to make a game with similar graphics to GTA 5 or more like the Life Is Strange games, but with The Sims like gameplay! But I am still thinking Life By You is much closer to that, then this one, unless they do improve certain things, like with the babies, which probably includes the Child characters too, I mean leaving them alone at home all the time with no nannies or anything!
I wonder if they might be planning on releasing it in early access, like Life By You is doing, maybe that's why it's said to be releasing possibly in a year. That wouldn't be so bad, as long as they listen to the players feedback, and don't just run off with the money for it and then do nothing, which A LOT of games, especially on Steam, have done! Though we still don't know where it's going to be launched from, I mean I am assuming Steam, since it does seem to get most independent games or games not released by a big gaming company!
Now the multiplayer part did bothered me a bit, I really don't care for playing in a game with strangers, I have done that, and what happens is a lot of people will start harassing other players, plus it opens you up to scams and worse hacking, especially since it's on your PC!
I mean GTA 5 has had a lot of trouble with people hacking other peoples accounts and literally stealing any DLC they might have and then there is a lot of potential for bullying, which whether they will have monitoring or not, might still get through, especially if they use an AI and not a real person, which is mostly what every company does now, so they don't have to pay anyone!
But if multiplayer is TOTALLY optional, it may be fine, I mean if it's for people to play with friends, meaning where you can choose who you are playing with, instead of having a bunch of strangers running around in your game all the time! I just keep thinking about how horrible it can be in a game like Second Life, which is probably the best multiplayer ( more a social platform then a game ) around, and it can be scary sometimes with the way people act sometimes towards each other!
But again I do want to know more about it, and will be watching out for any new info on it, and hoping it turns out to be a lot better then it seems at the moment! I mean it's true of one thing, the graphics are beautiful, both the people and the world, so I would love to play with it one day!

One red flag for me that no one seems to be talking about is the use of AI illustrations within this game. Other than the option to use AI prompts for build/buy designs, i notice that a lot of thumbnails, “stock photos”(the images shown in milestone screens), the images on the billboard and even the image on the current cover of the game clearly looks AI generated. It makes the development feel lazy to me and i hope they rather just hire digital artists for those illustrations.

I loved the play of this I saw someone do, it looked great and I think there is a lot for other sims games to learn from it. However Korean games have a reputation for looking great, being shallow and having lots of microtransactions. I also saw a lot of simmers asking for the diversity they get from sims, African hairstyles, LGBT stuff etc, and I don’t think we’ll see much from a korean game. Also don’t think there will be much modder support. Personally I think it will be almost a mobile style “just like sims” game and will be shallow. But we shall see.

I’m very skeptical about it mostly in regards of depth of social interactions, I’m interested to see if they choose not to allow people to create community lots because that’s somewhat a mess if it’s going to have an online community and everyone would want to fix or change things, I think the house interior is fine, but the lots itself is better for them to already have those done at least in the city.

But to have ultra high settings, which is what they would prefer previews to be seen in, they supplied the machine that could do it. Sure this game has only been in development for 1 year as they claim, BUT if even a developers PC gets massive frames drops and the fact they recomment a 64bit PC, is concerning on how well the games performance will be, this is why games like the Sims and even Life by You takes a less realistic approach to the level of detail in Character models and enviroments. The level of impact this game has on hardware when it's actually released is what I will hold off on, I want to see what the issues are before I decide to perchase, which is what I'm doing with City Skylines 2 which is waiting for them to actually fix the game before I dive deep into it.

It looks like some of the questions I had yesterday have been answered, but there are still a lot of questions. Are people assuming that you can have pets because of the cat tutorial? Unless they have *played* with a pet in the game, I don't believe people can say "This game will come with an open world, pets, and weather." That's a big jump in assumptions.
It's interesting that they sent computers to the people who were going to demo the game. That, to me, is a big red flag that the required specs are going to be "beefy". They didn't want someone using their regular gaming computer in case it wasn't beefy enough.
As far as LGBTQ issues, I suspect that it's going to be "careful". From what I've read of the South Korean culture, they are conservative. It also depends on the "rating" of the game. If it's mature, then they're more likely to have more freedom in the game. (I read that they consider "kissing" to be only for "mature" content, for instance.)
I'm not surprised that they are probably going to release the game in late 2024. That makes sense with them giving out demo content now. It hypes things for the release, but also gives them some time to tweak things before a full release.

IDK, this game seems more legit and completed the more I hear about it. The release date being sometime next year makes sense because this game seems more finished and polished than the other upcoming life simulations, even compared to LBY. Secondly, the fact that they sent influencers computers to play their game and they were able to keep it shows how confident the developers are with their game and how high their budget is.
This is much better than the Russian developer who showed our community two fake trailers just to scam us.
Thirdly, not knowing the price isn't too sus since the other life sim devs haven't yet resolved that for their products either. Since they are only game devs, they'd need to hire a consultant for market research.
Fourthly, because this is developed in Asia, they were probably able to work on this for years under the radar, so that might make this game look suspicious to a Western audience. Finally, if they already have enough of a prototype that legit influencers like English Simmer can play this game. (It takes an extremely long time to create a prototype with that much detail, even with Unreal 5's engine) Overall, I think this game is real.

Unreal engine is known for it's heavy AI implementation, which is the future of the game industry.
For Unreal engine, the programming, world design (high capacity of objects in world) and chat interface for characters are the only AI used, not the actual work from artists like 3d modelers and animators. AI is not yet that advanced. The characters looked like they were made in Metahuman, which is a supporting software that might have its own AI like other software. But that is it.

I have a pretty beefy computer. And I'm going to be upgrading the C: drive to a 2 TB solid state drive. My current one is one fourth that size. So, I should be good for a game like this. But system requirements will definitely be a legitimate concern for many users. The same for any graphics intense game. Gender options aren't something I care about much. But I think being able to set orientation is an important feature. It took years for sims 4 to get that right. The features it now has are pretty good in that regard. They give players a lot of options. And, if in doubt, gave players more options rather than less. Although, I would prefer a sliding scale on orientation to reflect a wider range of possibilities. Like bi-curious etc. It gives a wider range of story telling possibilities. The cat is the game mascot. Personally, I think that's weird. I'm not really a cat person. I would see that as a negative.

For the realease date, I think that's not actually that bad. Theye said early development, but the fact that they already have a pretty big playable version that they sent to influencers means it can't be that early. They also have a large team working on it. While paralives and life by you seem to be smaller teams, it makes sense that development would be slower but this company is pretty big and they're working in unreal engine which is pretty developer friendly.
When it comes to consoles, ps5 and Xbox series X should be able to run this perfectly fine but I'd be a little concerned about Xbox series S.
For the specs, their actually pretty medium as far as gaming computers go. Most gameing computers are i7, 8gb ram. I am curious though about more details on the graphics card, will we need a Nvidia rtx graphics card or will other ones work too? as a lot of older models might not have that.

I think it is wise for us to be cautious about optimism. You’re likely right that it’s too soon to decide whether or not these games are good. So it’s best to just wait and see. The rebel in me wants to cheer on all the games, but we just don’t know yet. Haha.

I hope those specs aren't going to be the minimum. The 4000 series is the current from Nvidia. I hope that was just the company going all out with the system they'd like to send influencers.
Sorry Erin but I don't see anything positive about more games while people are saying death to the Sims. In fact with these companies waiting for people to think death to EA to get on the Life Simulation train.... 🤔
How fast things can be done....I find it's not bad, but everyone is different. It seems a lot of people expect to take a few real days to get a Sim to get a partner then another few before marriage etc while I'm feeling that's a little too long. That's like an automatic long lifespan.
Ok my last comment on this one because I'm not interested. Ignoring how I'm not hoping for Sins to die so I can't play thes games, the graphics for the characters are too realistic to me.

No need to apologize. I do find there are some double standards going on..I thought the main critique for ex of sims 4 is that it 'focuses too much on graphics' for example. And I also feel like these graphics aren't for everyone even aesethics aside due to the demanding nature of them too

To address the concern the company working on this game from what I heard is the same company who did pubg so they have experience in game development. Also I wouldn’t expect any game to come out now without having to pay for any dlc. They deserve to get paid for there work. Although seasons, pets, weather, and the ability to go to some jobs built into base games is massively exciting to me. I’m more excited about this than I am for life by you. The only thing I’m worried about is mods if it is a multiplayer game

I am absolutely fine with dlc- I much prefer it to in game transactions, that's for sure

Something to keep an eye on. So far, it seems the Sims is the only one with true quirky play. 🤔

I do believe part of the sims' success has been an element of whimsy, so it'll be interesting to see how different games develop their own tone and style

It'll run fine on console, if GTA 5 and it's open world worked on PS3 and Xbox 360, then it'll definitely work.
I do think it's very important to have competition for EA as they've held the monopoly for far too long and us as simmers are the ones who has paid the price of that.

i agree that it's most healthy for the genre to have more options, whatever they end up being

If they did all of this in a year... they can finish it in one.
Hopefully it's done ethically... but... ?

all in one year and two years total indeed is highly unusual. I just put out a new video that may shed some light at least on how they sped the process- using 3D scan tech to create all of their assets ...

I believe a big market for this game will be China. China has passed laws against micro-transitions in games, that is a plus. LBGT+ will be there, it is becoming more accepted in China but I feel it will not be so open in the game, a bit like it is represented at the moment.

I'd suspect if it was sold in China, they may up the rating to
      "Mature" or equivalent

My “red flag” ?? was that they used the pushing and pulling tools to create a character. I thought the sims patented that design? Or is it not quite as I thought, I don’t know now …

the patent only applies for western companies so eastern companies aren't restricted. As long as the company stays Korean they can use it

I was wondering about this too, but I wonder about the patent terms- does it only apply within the US perhaps?
