Dear Zahid Sahab I am one of your regular viewer although professionally I am not a maritime employee but I am fond of your content and this has aroused my intrest in marine topics. I request you to make a video on world war-2 era ship SS Alkimos popularly referred as a cursed ghost ship. Please make a detailed video regarding this its mystery and myths regarding it and provide a detailed analysis about this ship and its ultimate fate.
I was the navigating officer on watch on the oil tanker you can see in a lot of the pictures and unfortunately some of the detail you have given is incorrect. There was no initial mayday just a general call to warn vessels that the Murree was in difficulty and potentially trying to make for shelter in Lyme Bay. As we were in the vicinity, i altered course to see if we could help. We were the first to arrive on scene and the only ship that 'stood by' until the Murree sank. It was obvious to me when we arrived on station, that the Murree was not going to make Lyme Bay. I had been in radio contact with the bridge/Captain of the Murree and coastguard from the moment the first call went out up until i was relieved at the change of 'watches' by which time we were on full 'standby'. The Captain was still confident that he would be able to make Lyme bay, but when we arrived on scene, i immediately told the coastguard that they needed to scramble helicopters as soon as possible and they were given the number of people on board. The Uk does not have a fleet of search and rescue helicopters on standby in vast quantities and there were normally only single helicopters staggered along the south coast of the UK approx 150 miles apart. From memory, the helicopters that arrived on scene came from Culdrose and Portland. We offered to take passengers from the first helicopter onto our deck to give it time to go back for more Murree crew as by that time the Murree was sinking rapidly. (Coastguard SAR helicopter capacity is approx 20 passengers depending on weather and fuel on board). This was declined due to the weather conditions and the fact that the Murree was sinking so fast. I could give a lot more detail and i'm sure the Coastguard would have recorded all radio traffic on the day. Without helicopters, there would have been many casualties as launching ship lifeboats was not an option due to the weather conditions and trim and motion of the Murree at the time. The two helicopter divers were very lucky not to be killed when they jumped from the stern as the propellor was still turning as the Murree went down. By the time the Murree sank, we had had a change of 'watches' and i was on standby on the poop with some of the crew having rigged cargo nets along the ships side and getting a life raft ready in case any Murree or SAR crew ended up in the water. We were operating as close to the Murree with thrusters and variable pitch propellor as possible but having to be very careful due to containers breaking off the foredeck of the Murree and the weather conditions at the time.

Very informative video Sir. One (admittedly ignorant) question: if the lashing on one side was still attached on the container, would it have been possible to release it, thereby at least stopping further hull damage?
As far as I know, the lashings are installed manually and at that time there was a hurricane or whatever it was happening doesn't allow crew to do such a thing. The wind speed is high enough to roll over and out containers, what can crew members do at that point. Trying to cutt off the lash under these circumstances is like putting your foot in the chain attached to anchor and throwing the anchor into the water from the deck, that can only result in a painful and crushing death!

Ship encountered Force 10 gale winds which is quite severe. I had been in PNSC and had sailed on M. V. Ayubia, sister ship of Murree as Chief Engr in 1987and last as I moved ashore... I recall, containers are stacked with locks at each footing to make it a unified block, added is cross steel wire lashing to reinforce typically those containers stacked on deck..... I didn't new the real facts on sinking, and bad luck that suspended container banged on side to fracture hull.. Life on ship can be very tough if cargo shift, in my first voyage on M. V. Ocean Endurance loaded copper and zinc pellets on 13,000dwt ship and sailed to US from Antwerp.. It was Dec in in mid Atlantic crossing, faves severe storm, gale force 8-9, cargo slings broke due to high rolling and pitching and moved on port side... Ship listed to 12deg. Port side.. It was a very tough to survive capsizing as with starboard side wind force was rolling pretty badly towards port side.. Good luck, we mange to reach Connecticut.... It's was a real miracle to survive
Sir ,why there were families ,not only crue is this common practise at that time also why they dont have any life boats ,so thay can transfer people safely on boats to wait for multiple helicopter trips,
