Once our ship was out of Diesel oil ( for running Disel Generators) as per the log book. However, over 40 tons of Diesel oil was in balance. We survived for 10 more days and reached a port ( East Africa) and took bunker.

If fuel khatm ho Jaye then engine will be stopped then if we get very rough weather then it will be very difficult to tolerate heavy weather ship can be broken also
