  • The making of the special effects of JAWS 3D was filmed in 1983 by me, Erik Visser. I worked for Private Stock Effects in North Hollywood helping constructing one of the sharks and later on working on the set with the fish tank.     For years I've been a huge fan of jaws3 and to see this footage made me so happy I only wish that they showed the scene on they did Phillips dimise by that I mean when he's inside the sharks mouth my favorite scene in the film

    Amazing footage to see, this is Gold IMHO. I just wish there was more out there showing the filming of the large shark models inc FitzRoyce getting killed.

      @@goji9892 there’s some photos of the larger shark on display at sea world in the 80s after the filming, it was on display for photo ops and such, that’s all I’ve really seen though

      @@Project-Jaden I have saw that but I happened to come across a really pixelated photo of a separate shark animatronic which only had a head and used for close ups. You can see that separate animatronic when it’s in the control center before it explodes. It has a sharper snout and looks like a pretty unconvincing effect but I can tell you one thing it’s not the one displayed on sea world. I think the one displayed in sea world was used for swimming shots, like when the dolphins attack the shark and its swimming to eat the characters (I forgot there names) you can see real humans and a giant shark, you can even see the robotics holding it at one scene so it must be the animatronic on sea world. Sorry for the long paragraph just wanted to tell you something

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Been obsessed with this film since the age of 4. Even travelled to Sea World in Orlando expecting to see the Undersea Kingdom as a child. Always wanted to know more about how this movie was made. Mama shark is the best looking shark in the franchise.

    I watched JAWS 3D in 1986/87 when I was 10/11 and I watched it again yesterday and ut made me so tearful. I'm having a mid life crisis I think

    This film represents one of only a few movies that I would say really brings me back to my childhood. I remember making my dad bring me and my little brother to the theater over and over to watch this. Must have seen it 5 or 6 times on the big screen and loved every minute of it. Atari, The A-Team, and Jaws 3D...man those were the days!

    Wow! I love documentary stuff like this when it's someone going around with a video camera and just recording what's happening. It's so much more real and honest than these heavily edited movie promo type "Making of" documentaries.

    You have no idea how thankful and fortunate i am to see this rare footage!
    Personally Jaws 3D holds a special spot in my heart and despite what many and critics say i have a profound love for the effects in this film for the time it was actually pretty revolutionary and awesome and in my eyes still is!!
    Thanks a million brother and keep up the good work on your channel just subbed.
    And actually digging the music!

    Thank you so much for sharing this with the fans. Jaws 3D is an underrated classic. They should have contacted you for this footage to include on the blu ray as they didn’t do the movie justice by not adding anything. Thanks again so much, we fans appreciate it

    That was awesome! I had seen the 3D version a while back on my Playstation VR system which made the movie look allot better. Now seeing all of the work put into it makes me want to watch again!

    How was this released almost 4 years ago and it never came across my radar until now, it doesn’t matter because I’m glad I found it because this is gold. I’ve always been sad since I was a kid at the lack of behind the scenes stuff for this film so this is a true treasure and your a legend for making this. Thank you so much!!!!

    electronic composited visual effects
    in *"JAWS 3-D",* this take of Mama Jaws
    crashing through the window with the
    water cascading into the camera would've been far better than what is in the final film.

    12:22 !!wow!! look at that shark move and the way it's done, not the way jaws (1975) did it with a hand remote and an animatronic shark, they used a pulley-like system with shark in the air.

    The exploding shark effect must been really painstaking to get the shot right. If any error occurred you have to drain and clean that fish tank, fill it back with water putting another shark in. Very nervous work. A lot of miniature work in this movie

      Not uncommon for uncredited roles. But yeah he was doing minature work for Jaws 3 and Alien 3 prior to Alien Resurrection and the 2 AVP films.

    Thank you for the amazing upload. Do you know why they never used your version of the shark breaking through the glass and instead went with a terrible special effect in the final product? Also, were you ever around the large shark models? Did you get to see them operate?

      We used our version for breaking through the glass. But due to political mishap another company got to finish some FX. Keep in mind that most FX were computerized in these days , using very slow computers. No, I wasn't around the large shark models or seen them being operated. We only did the SFX in North Hollywood.     MrAdamyork1 Would you be OK if I utilize a scene of the model shark from your making of video? I’m trying to restore a rare deleted scene from the original cut of jaws 3-D which you captured on your footage (naturally, I will gladly credit you in the video/description).

    Some of the footage here (exploding shark, shark going thru some sort of glass thing) are in this clip. The exploding shark footage slowed down is impressive, after seeing this video showing the actual high speed real time shot.

      For the uninitiated, this footage pertains to the first company hired for FX. There was some kind of dispute and this company was fired and another company brought in, who did a lousy job and probably were rushed. Most of the work done by the first company was scrapped.

      The octopus was to be used in Jaws 3D in the amusement park were the shark attacks. It was cut out though. A lot of stuff never makes the screen. All that work for nothin' but it sure was fun ...!

      I think the octopus was called _Captain Sink,_ right? You hear it mentioned in one of the scenes with the tourists walking through the Undersea Kingdom. That long arm that comes out of the wall to grab a nearby girl, I think that was meant to be the giant octopus, as if it were attacking the underwater tunnel and one of its arms has gotten inside. But I could be wrong about that.

    Gosh. Was they all on Cocaine or Drunk before or after in the studios??? Working with no passion, or Creative talent. All of them was pissed of on making that movie. No wonder give Lansburg no more budget in this.

    The only good thing about this "making of" was the end with the effect exploded of the head shark, the rest a waste of time. No screen of the big mechanical shark..just nothing.

    Some of the model work here is just atrociously bad. You get the feeling they made these models then held them up and said..."That looks like a shark doesn't it??" 43:17 What the fuck is that?????

    Some absolutely awful special effects that made the 1975 film look advanced. The shark in the last two Jaws movies looked like it was made by children. I know the 3d Tech was new, but they went backwards with the shark.

      @@MrAdamyork1 glad you answered me, I'm going to do an analysis of the film on my channel, "Monstresdefilms" where I talk about monster films by summarizing the story in a light way, then I talk about how the film was made. The origin of the scenario, what I think of it, then the way the special effects were done (models, animatronics, sets, digital effects) who composed the music, what it evokes, and then the setting on stage, and the careers of actors. I'm passionate about cinema and special effects, and I think that in every good film there is bad and in every bad film there is good. And being a fan of the “Jaws” saga I find it a shame that there are so few archives of the creation of Jaws 3D.
