Great bloke. The late John Braybon directed some of the Out of Town series and he played clarinet in my dads band and he also was involved with Open University programmes.Tug and glider pilot too.Used to buy tackle from Dave Swallows shop in Moordown where Jack also shopped.
Heard stories about maggots in his car!! : ) Respect.

He did live in the New Forest for a while, but retired to the place in the interview.
In the late 40s he was moving between a London home and a caravan in a field on the bank of the River Kennet at Midgham, then a cottage in Bagnor in Berkshire by the Winterbourne running into the River Lambourn, then at Lower Pennington and Walhampton near Lymington as well as at Minstead and East Boldre in The New Forest, and he spent his final years at Raven Cottage, near Belchalwell in Dorset.

I watched the first HOW and met Jack Harhgreaves through the media of tv. One of the best things ever, all of his programmes were informative but fun, but you must listen very carefully to everything he says. I learnt lessons that i have carried with me for life, from, HOW : TOWN & COUNTRY : OUT OF TOWN and the one that got lost and wiped was COUNTRY BOY. Marvellous stuff and through the media of vhs, dvd and programmes like this make sure we won't forget him either.

How was Jack so at ease in front of the camera? He didn't start at 50, he was in radio before the war and although he was commissioned into the Tank Regiment, the army made use of him to set up Forces Radio.

Jack comes across more jocular than I'd expected, perhaps trying to ease the overly serious and slightly condescending interviewer. What I wouldn't give to spend a day in that shed though! Preferably with the old bloke explaining his treasure and artefacts.
