Jack had a streak of genius about him. He’s amazingly far seeing in this bit of film. I thank goodness that he doesn’t have to view things as they are now.

Never mind the Internal Combustion engine for the demise in life, i am glad he was gone before social media and all the crap that goes with it!

His remarks about the sudden demise of heavy horses on farms was the same here. A whole generation coming back from the war was responsible for the almost overnight genocide of the working heavy horse industry. I have draft horse periodical clippings and books from the period and they show the alarming statistics of freefall decline in numbers. Those few who hung onto horses were ridiculed to some extent and the pressure to abandon their horses from all quarters was intense. Farming is often a dull difficult and lonely occupation, which almost nobody appreciates, and fewer still feel is worth rewarding monetarily, they begrudge him the little money he makes, and vent their frustration at the way he holds up modern traffic driving through his neighbourhood. For me working the horses is really the only reason why I keep going, it gives me sanity and a sense of purpose.

He grew up in central London, at some point he got work on TV and decided to create a persona that he was born and bread in the country - he researched well and made a good living

Grew up watching Jack presenting Out of Town loved watching it back then as i do now .

Jack comes across more jocular than I'd expected, perhaps trying to ease the overly serious and slightly condescending interviewer. What I wouldn't give to spend a day in that shed though! Preferably with the old bloke explaining his treasure and artefacts.

Very prophetic with regard to the combustion engine,and also the big dairy farms with 1000s of cows forcing out the smaller farmers .He must be turning in his grave regards farmers planting wild bird mixtures and politicians doing deals to import cheap food to get inflation down.

Quite simply a wonderful person.. the internal combustion engine and also the smartphone and social media sometime after his death. He seemed to have his priorities set right even before the days of influences. I cannot imagine there will be another person such as himself.

Typical ignorant interviewer brushed aside by a knowledgeable Jack Hargreaves.

Best thing Jack has ever said is that we need to stop England becoming like Surrey, superb and so true and battle we need to keep fighting!

The interviewer is a bit too pushy and probably isn’t listening to the answers. When you have someone of Jacks status and quality surely you want to ask an interesting question and then let the great man talk at length.

A man away ahead of his time , and a TRUE GREEN ....not a pink haired tree hugging hippy. !!!

I've loved watching some of these old programmes from the 70s.

How was Jack so at ease in front of the camera? He didn't start at 50, he was in radio before the war and although he was commissioned into the Tank Regiment, the army made use of him to set up Forces Radio.

A great man, with great ideas ..... And look where we are today - the whole "Green Agenda" hijacked by corporates and energy prices through the roof!

Realism that was his charm, presenters today constantly smiling and laughing at absolutely nothing drives me crazy, Jack was a treasure sadly missed even now

Jack Hargreaves did for the countryside and country thinking, what Fred Dibnah did for engineering. We are now a lot poorer that these marvellous men have now left us.
