  • SOUTH PENNINES WALK FEATURING MARSDEN AND THE STANDEDGE TUNNELS
    "Moors of Marsden"
    Filmed 18th April 2015
    Post-production completed 3rd May 2015
Marsden lies at the point where the Peak District merges into the Pennines. My walk around here and its surrounding moors includes a visit to the longest canal tunnel in the country.
Filmed in the South Pennines in the county of West Yorkshire including a small part of the Peak District. Locations include Marsden, Butterley Reservoir, Close Gate Bridge and the Standedge Tunnels.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

I particularly enjoyed this trip Patrick , I have never been to marden but I will be adding it to my list , I have of course travelled by the canal , on that rail line but don't count that as visiting , it looks very photogenic lots of locations I spied along the way including those two pack horse bridges .... thank you so much once again for a great film mate .... Frank and Lee ...

Thanks Frank and Lee, pleased you enjoyed it. Marsden is a great place. It's on the Manchester to Huddersfield railway line so good access to it. The TV series "Where The Heart Is" was filmed in Marsden if you ever saw that. All the best. Cheers, Patrick :-)

What a stunning and fascinating local historical walk that looks. I've still yet to visit the Moors of Marsden but this is a great advert for doing so. Thank you for yet another cracking informative walk and video, they are always a pleasure to watch.

I love your videos Patrick, they are of such a high quality they should be shown on tv,what a great series it would make, visually stunning, well researched and written, and superbly presented, even the music is written and played by yourself, many thanks and well done. This is my walking ground but I'v never done this one so it will be my next walk.
Despite Holmfirth getting all the publicity, there was much more filming for Last of the summer wine done in Marsden, the streets, shops, pubs, weir,Aunties shop is there, and most of the outdoor shots were done in Marsden and New Mill, not Holmfirth, but there is nothing in the town to tell you this. Thanks again for another great film.

Thanks again Pete for the wonderful comments. Although I made this one over three years ago, I'm quite proud of these films now as it is all my own work and I know how much work is involved into making them. I remember seeing Marsden in Last of the Summer Wine, they tended to show a lot of the scenes by the weir I seem to recall. It was of course also the main location used in Where the Heart is. Perhaps Marsden didn't want the publicity like Holmfirth did, but it was certainly well used as a location in various dramas. Anyway thank you again for the great comments and for taking the time to watch. Cheers, Patrick :)

    This was great.
Watched it for the second time as part of my ongoing quest to watch every minute of every film starting with the pilot episode,up to number 38 now and only started less than a month ago.
I visit Marsden quite a lot to go walking and recently went on the boat through the tunnel, would really recommend it.
Thanks for showing us around the area Patrick.
    Pete.

My claustrophobia would unfortunately prevent me from trying the boat through the tunnel, but I can understand its appeal. A lovely region to walk though so very enjoyable for me filming this. Thanks Pete :)

Thank you for this video. Before visiting anywhere new to me I like to watch a CZcams video to make sure it’s worth it for. This is yet the type of video I find really useful, really informative with the views of the village and countryside taking centre stage

Hello Patrick, Google suggested this to me and I'm so glad of that feature or I might not have found your channel. You've done a great job on this video, beautiful filming, editing, and narration! I'm in Vancouver and am missing my yearly visits to the UK for long distance walks. Did the Pennine Way this time last year so this video is especially interesting to see the other end of the tunnel. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

I live in Marsden. Its a lovely Village with great community spirit. The Jazz Festival and Imbolic Festival are fantastic. Trains are every half hour from Piccadilly manchester and the other way from Huddersfield. You can be in Manchester within 30 mins and Leeds within 40mins. With scenery like we have though its unlikely you will leave for long. One thing we do have in Marsden is a lot of Water Sources, canals, rivers and over flows. It makes walking the dog a lovely event.

Nice place Marsden. I returned just over a year ago, without the camera this time, and spent a day in the area. Enjoyed a beer in the Riverhead Brewery Tap whilst there too, great pub! :)
