    Thank you so much Patrick, for not only a brilliant walk and video in the glorious Colne Valley, but also for giving me and Ann a shout out. That really does mean a lot to us both, and of course you are quite right, we do love the South Pennines with a passion. I took in a very similar walk from Eastergate Bridge up to March Hill summit and March Haigh Reservoir earlier this year. Thanks again for the mention, it's much appreciated. 👍🌿🤗

    I've lived in Marsden all my life and it was lovely to see you visit my village again.
    The little electric tug boat you saw coming out of the tunnel actually has two jobs. It takes the trips through and it also pulls private narrow boats through for a small charge. Diesel engines are no longer allowed inside the tunnel due to fire and fume regulations.

    Buckstones is somewhere I always stop at when driving past, just to take in the views, which are always different according to the weather, and particularly fine when the autumn colours are out. No shortage of good walks in the moors around Marsden, and Slaithewaite, as you know. Lovely film as always. Look forward to your next one.

It certainly cleared up a bit after the rainy start..we did much of this route a year or so ago..i remember well the Boggy, Bracken covered route up to Buckstones. The views from up there are outstanding...love the old Eastergate bridge...Never a dull moment around there.

Yeah I didn't enjoy that boggy stretch up to the Buckstones, but it was certainly worth getting up there. Eastergate Bridge is a beauty isn't it. Thanks for watching Steve, all the best 👍

    Marsden is nice and a great clock tower. The views on that walk were incredible and it's easy to see why The last of the summer wine could be filmed in the area. That old stone bridge could be a scene from a Constable painting, the cobbles over the bridge looked hard going on the feet though. A church, canal, reservoir, too many things to mention. Fifty miles doesn't seem far but in England it is. I hope you get to spend those few days there at some point. How about the old iron gate of the titted electrical lady 😁A weird gate but funny. That was quite a walk and I'm glad the weather bucked up. You deserved that pint, it looked nice. Cheers Patrick

    • @solitaryrambler
      @solitaryrambler  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Marsden is a great place Kelly. Aside from Last of the Summer Wine, the location was also used in the TV series Where the Heart is. That's a good point about a Constable painting, Eastergate Bridge certainly fits that image. 50 miles is fine for the odd occasion, but yeah when you want to visit on a more regular basis, the cost of the mileage adds up sadly. I will try and get back to the South Pennines for a few days when I can though. Loved that iron gate! 😁 I enjoyed my beer at the end, a nice leisurely end to my day. Thanks Kelly for watching and for all your support 👍

    We know Marsden well not just for walks but for Marsden Jazz Festivals. Nice to see so many familiar places again even Buckstones. I led a group walk up Spring Lane route towards upper levels, March Haigh Reservoir, and steep climb up March Hill then down the packhorse route. Glad you like the South Pennines. So many good places to walk. So it's worth the journey despite the distance from your home.

    'Lower Greenowlers.' Nice one Patrick - passing through some interesting places again. The weather behaved later - it might have been a different story on the Buckstones had it continued chucking down. But hey it wasn't. I gotta say the aesthetics of bridges were different back in the day - that's a beauty. Well, a decent walk Patrick tunnels and all. Nice not to be in a rush. Mark

      I always thought Lower Green Owlers was a great name Mark, not one I ever forgot 😀 Yeah thankfully the rain was only around first thing that day, but it turned out great as was forecast. Eastergate Bridge sure is a beauty, I've come across several little bridges like that in the South Pennines, and with this one you can imagine the trio from "Last of the Summer Wine" perched on it having their chat 😁 Love those tunnels, I remember good old Fred Dibnah going through in one of his TV programmes a while back.
