Dark Harvest is Finally Coming out! Here is our Early Review for it! (Embargo lifts on the 11th)

- This Friday the 13th (Perfect Date) (and It is getting a limited theatrical release in select Alamo Drafthouse locations on Wednesday the 11th!) we are finally getting the adaptation of the beloved novel, Dark Harvest, which has been in release limbo for seemingly forever. We got a chance to watch it early and we are very excited to talk about it. The embargo lifts on October 11th. See you then!

David Slade surprisingly also directed the Twilight: Eclipse movie as well which was good... By the way Dark Harvest had a limited theater released. I think the movie only lasted a month or two in theaters. FUN FACT: Officer Jerry Ricks is played by Luke Kirby who you might know from Halloween: Resurrection!!!

Get hyped
How the hell is this only a 2.7 on Letterboxd? I really liked it. The vibe and aesthetic were really cool. I liked the direction. The kills were cool. Yeah, it's a story that's been done before. Yeah, the sheriff is over the top and the love interest goes 0 to 100 in a heartbeat, but the rest of the film more than makes up for it. Cool creature design. Liked the masks, The Misfits vibes, and the ending worked for me.

The cover alone for it has me completely intrigued. I haven’t checked a trailer out, I don’t watch trailers anymore and for good reason. I’ll be checking this out when it comes out
Finally! I read the book and have been impatiently waiting for the movie release. The fact that the October boy resembles Pumpkinhead makes me so happy. Also, bring on the Pumpkinhead reviews

I have the book in digital form, gonna drop the October Boy tomorrow. And watch the movie when it’s out. Also can’t wait for When Evil Lurks. I like my gore, with the right setting and environment and good story telling. A movie like the original French Martyrs, for example.
The hunter:hunted power balance was confusing. The town boys frenziedly hunt Sawtooth Jack and consume him, but they simultaneously fear SJ, who can definitely tear them to pieces no matter how many boys SJ faces? I like the film overall, though.

Maybe the werewolves in Howl or The Ritual for me I think for creature designs
I really enjoyed Dark Harvest, great vibe and atmopshere, cool premise, good characters.
I just thought that aspect of the game/hunt itself was not handled that well.
I was expecting some serious competition, but instead most of the youths acted like zombielike maniacs attacking meat stores :D
I doubt three days and nights without food would turn everyone into aggressive luntics :D
On the other hand male youngesters can be idiots, maybe that's pretty reaalistic for them just to hang out andriot :D
I also felt that they didn't manage to keep the intrigue going strong up to the very end.
You could figure out who's the monster pretty fast.
Anyway, It was really cool movie, I will for sure rewatch it next October :)

Regards favourite recent monsters in films - the one from 'No-one Gets Out Alive' was fantastic: it was original, surreal, freakish, well crafted, loved that one.

fav monster in the last decade? easy question to answer. The monster from The Ritual. damn it nevermind, cuz I also loved the Wendigo on Antlers. Damn...and the bear from Annihilation.

I really enjoyed the movie. Come to the violent world with me, is a memorable quote. The music is on point. The main leads, did a great job. The side characters were cool to. I think the mother, was more creepier than good ole Sawtooth Jack lol. The creature design hell yeah awesome. But it’s probably a movie, that I only have to see once or maybe twice. It’s in some way pretty predictable, although the twist has a nice concept. I would say give it a try, check it out. Close to being fun, in my opinion. Just a little short of it. Wasn’t thrilled but entertained for sure.
It definitely seems like I'll be checking this one out. I miss a good monster flick

30 days of night is ace
As far as creatures in the last decade, I really like Calvin from Life.
I'm def one of those 30 Days of Night fans. Its not as dope as the Steve Niles books but it has Josh Hartnett and some brutal vamps. Its wild that he directed a Twilight flick and was then banished to TV for some reason.

Jase, if you ever get the chance check out the 30 Days of Night comics, they really flesh out the story and make you appreciate the movie more...didn't care for the cheap sequel as the story is great, they just handled it really badly.
The sequel is pretty terrible
Hopefully I'll watch this film soon. I agree nothing worse than a bad ass movie with no marketing muscle. I've seen it happen too many times and it's a damn shame.

This one didn't hit for me man. Tons of missed opportunities and a basic easy to predict plot. Decent tho. Love what you do

I saw this movie based on all the good reviews and it really sucked. It seemed like the movie was pasted together. The scenes did not flow together well the acting wasn't that great, especially the cop. He was over acting way too many times where it got comical and took my attention away from the movie. The story really didn't tell an origin or why or how what was going on was going on. I really didn't care for or get attached to the actors either If they lived or died. The stupid father and the idiot mother that stabbed herself in the neck for no real reason aside from shock value. The first pumpkin monster was a little punk that was easily taken out but the second one was freaking terminator demolishing anything that got in its way. The part were the monster went into the cellar and blood immediately flew out was so idiotic as if it wouldn't have been immediately ambushed by that many kids with weapons. And then the part of holding the kids in the their room for 3 days was even stupider like the kids wouldn't hide food in there ahead of time or their parents wouldn't just give them something to eat as if they were all being watched individually or the kids wouldn't come out and immediately start eating instead of hunting the monster. The first group of kids in the beginning came after the monster like vicious organized bounty hunters but why was the second group of kids scattered and murdering each other with no direction like a bunch of bumbling idiots? And the idea of giving the "winner" a house and "Corvette" for defeating the monster sounded like something a 5 year old would come up with. Has the writing these days really gotten this bad that If they give us a crap Sandwich, we love and praise it?
