- I have used this camera again in Oct 2022 and had far better results ; )
In this video I use a Ricoh KR10X manual focus 35mm SLR that dates from the 1980's. The camera is aperture priority automatic with manual override. This Ricoh camera uses the Pentax K mount so I am able to utilise my Pentax 50mm and 28mm lenses.
I recently purchased this camera in a charity shop that raises funds for St Mary's church in Tadcaster, It is called Hidden Treasures.
The camera looked very clean so I thought it was worth a try. Obviously with old film cameras until you put a film through them if everything is working. For instance you can never be sure if the light trap is still working, if it is not you will end up with a fogged film!
Thankfully the light trap was fine. However I did have a couple of issues. The first one was part way through the film the mirror locked up !!!! I put the cap back on asap and put it inside my dark bag , where I was able to release it ( by gently tapping the camera body a few times ) . It still resulted in ruining a few frames! I have no idea why it did it , maybe just because it had not been used for a long time ??
The second issue was, It uses an LCD display in the viewfinder which was a challenge to see in some lighting situations. I may use my Euromaster hand held light meter if I use this camera again.
That way I can be more confident I am using the correct exposure.
I did get some images I was happy with but overall I feel I could have done better with one of my own old film cameras that I know well.
I thought I would still share my results with you all : )

Thank you for posting this video. I really like this little camera which is so underrated. You are one of the few who have shown us the photos. To my hearts content. God Bless you sir. Roger
You are welcome , thank you for watching and commenting : ) Teddy
I love those old film cameras, great photos, i think they are much better than the "lifeless" modern ones.
Thank you and yes I agree totally I love the old film cameras. They all have different characters :D Thank you for watching :D Teddy
The Ricoh KR10 was my first SLR in (about) 1981after a Zorki 4. It's with these I learned about the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, film 'speed', depth of field, composition and so on. It's a shame that these skills are mostly lost now due to camera phones and the 'apps' that come with them.
I agree totally . My first SLR was a pentax K 1000 I still use it occasionally :D When I use my digital cameras I use them in full manual mode :D Thanks for watching
lovely location and photos!
Thank you Teresa :D Teddy

Thank you for sharing , my goodness I thought with my meager knowledge of photography that those were some great black and white images , we are all so used to colour but those came out a treat even though you said you had a few issues , mind you those stainglass windows must be stunning to see up close , beautiful church , so ornate , the craftsmanship is amazing and I loved finding the bear , he gets about Lol , music was perfect , very English Folksie methinks reminds me of back in the days 1970's and I 've forgotten her name Maddie Prior ??? Hugs nightienite
You are very welcome dear Linda , and yes English folksie it is Fairport Convention :D That church really was very ornate inside it was beautiful. I only had one frame left when I got in there!!! I went back a week later and I got some digital images of the church interior , I might share them at some point ?? I am pleased you enjoy playing spot the bear :D Thanks for watching Take care :D Teddy
wonderful video! thank you! was just gifted a ricoh kr10 and this made me excited!
Thank you , I hope you have fun with your camera. I would advise on using a seperate light meter after the experience I had with this one, I struggled to take an accurate reading with the cameras own meter and wished I had picked up my hand held meter. Thanks you for watching and commenting : ) Teddy
Hello dear Teddy, this was such a delight to see this video of the video & photography you did before digital cameras. You take beyond breathtaking black and white shots my friend! I look a bit younger than my age (I'm in my mid 40's) and back in my late teens I worked in a darkroom in highschool, I absolutely loved photography before digital. Very beautiful and inspiring video my friend, I wish you a beautiful day and big like as always ♥
Thank you very much Heather, Iam pleased you enjoyed seeing this video. Both of the humans I live with started their photography in the film era ! It took them a while to go digital. So I have a good couple of teachers in the house ;D The only thing that stops me using much film these days is the inconvenience and the cost ! I love the whole process of using a film camera far more than I do the digital ones. However digital gives me the opportunity to capture so many more images and is much
easier for wildlife :D At least now we have the advantage of being able to use either and it is great to be able to use scanned negs and then adjust them on the computer Take care my friend and I hope you have a peaceful weekend ( hopefully with nature) :D Teddy
Love my M series Pentax glass at least RICHO was smart enough to use the open source K mount lenses
Snap , I agree : )
A Ricoh camera Teddy - that's pretty good. I think the results were good to. I enjoyed the church shots. All the best. Mark
Thank you Mark yes the old Ricoh is not a bad make , ( not like Praktica they were the worst ) it would have been around £100 or more when new the price of a Pentax me super would have been around £200. The thing was when I bought it I knew I would be able to use my good quility pentax lenses I own with it. It was a bargain and it was good to give it a purpose in life by using it. I was pretty happy with the results especially that interior of the church. I was handholiding at a crazy slow shutter speed and it is pin sharp :D Thanks for watching Take care Mark :D Teddy
@@TeddyWandererCamera-Bear Hey that's good Teddy. It means there was no waste at all.
Great photos! Glad to see you get some use out of what had been discarded as junk. There's definitely still some magic left in the old tools. And congratulations on 200 subscribers!
Thank you Jamie I am happy with some of them but am kicking myself for not taking a separate light meter . Some of the exposures were off and I had to do a lot of work in photoshop to make them acceptable! It was just so difficult to see the lcd meter in the viewfinder in some of the shots! Overall though I was happy with the results and at somepoint I will give it another go. Like you say it is so good to put it to use when someone else had thought it was no longer of any use , I love a bargain :D Thank you for watching and for the congrats I am still working on the Q&A video so hopefully I will be able to post it very soon :D Teddy
Most enjoyable. Thank you.... thought all the photos shown were great.
Thank you I am pleased you enjoyed seeing them. Thank you for watching :D Teddy
At least you had fun...Great review, my friend
Thank you :D Teddy
Thank you for sharing. I think you were able to get some nice shots with the camera and I did really like the last photo from inside the church. The composition was excellent with everything leading your eye toward the altar and the window. Is going back to black and white film more of a challenge since you have been using digital? I have not done much B&W since getting more serious about photography.
You are very welcome , I only had one frame left for inside the church so I looked around for the best possible composition for a while. If I had have been using a digital camera I would have captured everything in there that captured my eye !!! I was very pleased with the image I captured in there I love the way the pattern in the floor helps to lead your eye to the altar etc... This is just as it was composed in camera without any cropping. It is true digital cameras make me lazy in a way because when using them I can capture as many images as I like ( within reason) where as when I load a 36 film ( in this case) I have to really stop to think about what I want to capture. Also when using Black and white film you have to think about how the image will work ..... is there enough contrast etc... When it comes to taking exposure readings you need to remeber to take them from the darkest areas . Unlike digital where you protect highlights first ! maybe I will think about doing a video to try and expand on this ! So yes it is only a challenge in as much as I have to stop and think more before capturing an image. However there are so many things I find easier and nicer about using film cameras. Although I must say I found the viewfinder lcd meter on this one difficult to see! I will be hopefully taking out some of my favourite old cameras sometime soon. I own some Contax cameras that are just the most amazing cameras to use, well they are in my opinion anyway :) By the way it is good to practice shooting in black and white on digital cameras most have a setting for black and white , It costs less than film .It makes you see things differently.Thank you for watching :D Teddy
Hello dear Teddy,
It’s great video, which I enjoyed to watch 👍🏻
