  • In today's video Dave tells you the story of how he found a 48 year old Ricoh KR-5 35mm film camera at a flee market in Canton, Texas and bought it for 5 dollars, not even knowing if it would work! This video highlights the reasoning behind Dave's purchase of this old 35mm SLR film camera, how he was able to restore it, and he even reveals live on camera the first photos taken with this camera in decades. Dave did not even open the prints to see the photographs before filming this video! So, you get to see the photos and his true reaction as he looks through them!
This little camera had a jam in the internal workings that Dave was able to fix just by playing around with the shutter a bit to allow it to release properly. At some point a previous owner must have taken this 35mm camera to the beach because the jam was caused by a bit of sand that had gotten into the internal workings of the camera! With all of that cleared out, Dave added two new watch sized batteries. (Taken from "Camera-Wiki", "Two 1.5v silver-oxide batteries are needed to power the light metering circuit, which has a match-needle indicator in the viewfinder.") So, even a 48 year old camera has a little bit of electronics inside it.
With all of that completed Dave went out on some photography adventures to see if this 48 year old SLR 35mm film camera actually worked!... Stick around until the end of the video when Dave shares with you the results of this photography experiment!

Hey Man. Interesting video. I first got int photography in 1982's. I still have my first camera. A Conon 35mm. I learned how to work it right and eventually started to do weddings and graduations. I made a lot of extra cash back then. I still like photography, but I am into old cars and trucks now. Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍📸

3 things: film speed; shutter speed; aperture (depth). lower speed film = less grainy good luck

What settings did you use it with? Did you use the lightmeter?

Thanks for watching Benice! Yes we Dave di use the light meter! In extreme light or darkness its almost useless, but if you have some cloud cover or ambient light the light meter still works very well! As for the settings, Dave didn't keep track of them at first, but we'll be sure to do that for future videos! Have a great day!

You didn't actually repair the camera on screen... Was kind of hoping for that based on the title

You’re right! At about 2:15 Dave explains that the camera needed new batteries and had a jam in the internal workings. He essentially pushed a lever next to the mirror and it snapped back into place. That was all, and the video was about the story of the camera. 📸
