I'm 15 years old. I've wanted to become a pilot since 2006, the first time I was ever in a plane. Since then I've been passionate for this career and exited on when I can start it. I can finally get my student pilot license from where I'm from, and I can't wait when I'm in a Cessna 172 doing my first solo flight. I want to fly long haul for emirates or Lufthansa, And I want to fly the Airbus a380 or the Boeing 787. I hope I can follow my dream and achieve what I've always wanted. Mentour pilot you have really showed me a clear path on how I can achieve my goal.

Great video. Always wanted to fly as a kid then somehow lost the dream during my teens and early twenties. Was reinvigorated in 2003/2004 around 30yrs old after questioning life behind a desk! Went and got my PPL and had a blast. Started exploring route to go commercial and got offered a place on the integrated course at OAT in Oxford which was going to cost around ÂŁ65k. Decided that this was best approach due to my age and need to try to get into the industry as quickly as possible however decided not to pursue it at the last minute. I thought I just didn't want it quite as badly as some of the people I met when going to selection centres. Many seemed to be dead set on flying as the ONLY thing they were ever going to do. I definitely made the right call in hindsight. I still love everything about flying but I just couldn't bear to commit to it as I saw it as a one way ticket. I wonder how much an integrated course is now at CAE Oxford (which is think is what OAT has become)? I guess probably ÂŁ150k or something.
Roughly ÂŁ100,000, depends on what course you take as they offer a few. Some cost upwards of ÂŁ130,000 as you are also paying for a type rating. This is going off of memory so I might not be entirely accurate :).

As for me, I like Airbus A300 because it has the greatest view in the cockpit specially it's overhead panel that's slightly comes down, also the main panels are 50/50 analog/display so it's kind of old "new" school ) unfortunately there are in cargo duty nowadays.. and life as a cargo pilot it's not a miracle.. only night flights, moreover a company gives you to know about your flight before 1-3 hours.. The unique advantage is that they recruits low hour first officers ! (250-300 TT). looking forward to watching new podcasts!
Will look into the suitability tests. I'm training modular in the UK based at Derby Airfield for my PPL and then looking to start my modular CPL training at Stapleford Flight Centre also based in the UK after coming to a conclusion of keeping finances low. I'm very excited about fulfilling my dream to become a airline pilot. I have also taken notes from your videos.

I would love to fly for RYR, I'm in love with the 738 and the way that RYR operate is perfect to me, even if you have a base that you don't like you can always manage to get back home. I know that you don't like to talk about your own airline or a specific airline but I will and many of us will appreciate that you speak about yours.

I'm not sure on what kind of pilot I want to be in the future. I think I want to be a long-haul pilot because I want to fly around the globe but as I said earlier I'm still not sure. My dream aircraft is the A380 and I'm hoping that one day I can fly it. Moreover, I'm also not sure in what airline I want to work. I've dreamed with the Asian or Mid-West Airlines, but of course first you have to find a Job there.
I've always loved flying and the environment of an airport but it was not long ago that I discovered that I want to be a pilot.

My dream job? Long haul pilot for Etihad Airways for a number of reasons:
I was born and I spent my entire life in Abu Dhabi so I'll be right at home, and frankly I've been to many countries around the world and there is no place I loved more than AD
Etihad has been and will most likely stay one of the top airlines of the world for the forcible future,
The salary is incredibly high and tax free
It has a beautiful and very rapidly growing fleet
I can get promoted to Captain pretty quickly unlike some other airlines where it takes up to, and sometimes more than 10 - 15 years
Why long haul?
The aircrafts are amazing (I'm hoping 777 or 787 Etihad operates them both)
I am 18 and just started flight training that means I should be 19 by the time I have my frozen ATPL, so no family responsibilities that can be a downside when spending many nights away from home,
Getting to go far away to beautiful destinations and see the world
I've been flying my entire life and have always enjoyed long flights
I could stay up all night counting reasons...
Also another thing, I have no experience with that so I might be wrong, but I think joining the airline as a Second Officer on a widebody jet is a fast track to moving up in the airline, what do you think Captain?
PS : My budget is tight now but I promise you as soon as I start working and receiving a salary one of the first things I'll do is become your paetron you're just so awesome!!

Hi Captain. I know this comment is a tad late, but just wanna get it out there. :)
I am 16 years old and British. I have lived in Spain for over 6 years and I've wanted to become a pilot for a couple of years now.
When I first lived in the UK I always had something for aviation. My Dad would usually take me to Blackpool Airshow and I loved it, we would also visit war/aviation museums since the UK has a lot of history aviation related. Around those times I didn't really want to become a pilot, although I was interested in aviation. A couple of years ago (age 14) I realised that I need to find a full-time career that I would enjoy and love. I started to think about a job that would interest me such as becoming an aircraft engineer. Then I realised, why not become a pilot? I was starting to love aviation more and more since the day I moved to Spain.
I would never watch anything aviation related, due to me thinking that it was really boring. But I started getting into aviation more than ever before and I started watching channels like Mentour, CptJoe and many more. I also love watching VFR Flying vlog-type videos.
Many years have gone by and I'm fully dedicated to becoming a commercial airline pilot. I'm driven and enthusiastic about this career. I have a flight simulator program called X-Plane 11 and a yoke, throttle quadrant and a joystick for flying all my aircraft, and I love it. I'm always flying to some part of the world on it!
Last summer I went to London to fly a Tiger Moth biplane at IWM Duxford and has been one of the best experiences in my life. I also went to a proper flight simulator in Central London to pilot in the cockpit of a 737. I also loved it.
I'm just fortunate for having a family that are very happy for knowing what I want to be, and they push me to achieve my dream.
I'm on my GCSE's at the moment and doing well on them. I shall complete my GCSE's and any A-Levels that I need to get and join a flight school here in Spain. Funding may not be an issue, but if it is, I'm fully prepared to save as much money as I can (Like you said in this video) And go out and earn enough money to do the training.
My plan is to finish in flight school then join a short haul airline i.e. easyJet or Ryanair... I will get the full experience of flying with a life full of takeoffs and landings. After doing my part in any of these companies I want to move over to long haul routes in an aircraft like the 777x. I will help people get to their desired destination and make them happy!

I totally love this whole series of podcasts and the wealth of information that they have imparted to world, they are a huge service to the general aviation industry and to those, like myself, who would like to become a part of the aviation industry.
As for your question, I would like to become a long haul pilot and fly a super-jumbo jet to and from The African Continent... If I was younger than 46, I would like to pilot one of the next generation hyper-sonic jets that are due to enter service in around 2025.

well another great video! i would love to fly medium to short haul, probably flying the B737 or maybe an E190 just because on a short haul flight there is not as much time to get bored in the cruise and you will get to fly more of the interesting stages of the flight such as takeoff and landing. I think it would also be an amazing experience flying long haul as the planes are just so big, such as the A380, B747, B777. Some of the destinations will be amazing, but there are down sides like not being able to see your faimly.

Good Advice! VERY reminiscent of what my youngest boy has just DONE! Alas he's going into science at the moment. He was offered the opportunity at a TOP University, but chose to remain in the North of the UK at another University. He too is thinking of Post Grad top up Cert! Another one you've forgotten is the Wealthy Partner who happens to be a SCHEMER! ;) Much rather have somebody for me than against me!
I would love to fly short haul as a captain! The next generation of short haul aircraft is really exciting and short haul provides more flexibility for family life as well as more action in the cockpit. My favourite aircraft is the 777 but I wouldn't sacrifice short haul for it unless the short haul market changed significantly!

First of all thanks for this piece of information.I have observed one thing in this field is that every thing depends where your working and what kind of schedule you have.I guess the best way to get trained is by the 2nd and the 4th way.Im confused to get a degree after my pre university or directly step up for training
My dream job would be flying the 737 at FR from MAD, ALC, VLC, AGP or BCN. I tried to get in an integraded course last year. Unfortunately, I didn't get through the last phase of the selection process. Now saving for a modular route besides doing an bachelor in ICT.

Hi, Mentour.. I hope you are doing fantastic.. I just watched this video of yours and I am your subscriber since the starting.. I am even on the app community.. I dunno how I skipped this video, well for me I would love to fly and A380Plus or a A321NeoLR or just a simple A320Neo... I dunno why but for some reason I like the side stick instead of yoke plus the aircrafts are more advanced.. and about my motivation.. well you may find it funny. but when I was a child there was a cartoon called Swat Kats -Radical Squadron , and because of that show a little fire was ignited inside me to be a pilot.. in those days i wanted to be a fighter pilot.. and till my 10th grade wanted to fly the F35 but as I got older and mature I realised a lot of things and chose to become a commercial pilot, and plus I am not an American citizen so I have no chance to fly the F35, but I still wish that at least once in my life I want to experience it.. and as a pilot I'm aware that life will be a lott different then other conventional jobs.. I would be away flying.. when my family in down in the country I live .. but I'm sure you can always make time for family... and I'll be happy to do what I love, to fly.. instead choosing a job I don'tâ love just because it's easier and cheaper to get that job.. and on the side note not a lot of jobs gets a high salary as a pilot.. so I am really trying to be a commercial pilot.. really trying to get into a good training school.. soon though I'll be flying one the Airbus family Aircraft..

I would like to do some bush flying for a few years prior to joining an airline. Because of the risky nature of it, I think bush flying will really help me develope my airmanship and aircraft handling. It also gives me my adrenaline fix once in awhile.

I will see what I can do but I probably wont be starting to recommend flight-schools. The reason is that I cannot vet them all and I will not run the risk of recommending a school who doesn't deserve it.
When it comes to re-searching schools, you will have to handle that yourself. I am happy to answer any specific questions if time permits.

Iâm 14, and for years Iâve been dreaming about becoming a pilot. Iâd love to become a short-medium haul pilot flying the a320 family.
I found the podcast very useful and informative however I have some questions.
1. If you receive training through a program not sponsored by an airline, what happens if you apply and get the job?
2. Are you trained to fly one aircraft? Or does you license allow you to fly any. Iâm assuming you need specific trading to fly specific aircraft.
3. What are the best ways to raise money for the such high fees?
Bit late but im trying to help everyone by answering questions that mentour didnt so I'll answer yours
1. So there's intergrated course which are apparently favoured within the application process which is true in some areas such as British airways only hires new cadets through dovetail training. However there are MPL programmes sponsored by airlines such as Easy Jet you complete the training and then get put in a holding pool for the airline whos doing the MPL programme.
2. Funding- usally banks will loan up to 60% however they won't just hand out the money you will have to have a property or some kind of security against the loan however if you fail to get a job after training you could end up with losing the house which is on the security. I know many pilot who have done their training and struggle to get by just paying off the loan. Other ways is working and saving this is more ideal for someone younger it will take longer but it's worth it in my opinion
3 flying planes- so you're allowed to fly 1 type of plane for example you can only be type rated on the a320 however due to the cockpits of the a320, a321, a319 and a318 are so similar youre allowed to fly them on a a320 type raiting same for boeing aircraft, 737-800 700 300 And a330 and a340, these aren't included in the flight training and usally cost about 30k max however some (most) like fresh cadets like Ryanair and will pay for your type raiting but you'll be bonded so its usally a 5 year bond, sometimes with salary deduction or not
Can I also add since youll be 15 can I say work your socks off in school at gcse and things and you'll do great

I would love to fly long haul for Lufthansa. 777-9X is the aircraft I want to fly. That's because I love the roar from the GE engines, that you only get in a really large plane. I like flying to destinations around the globe.

first of all I want to emphasise the idea of the brilliant person you are. These podcasts you do are such helpful and I mean it is fantastic to have someone who is inside the airline industry, and helping others who are in my case determined to do that. I'm 16 and in 2 years I'm gonna start my studies in a flight school. Here in Portugal there's a school called gair that provides the ATPL for about 50.000⏠and I don't find it very expensive comparing to other countries. Now,answering to your question, I want to fly a PLANE it doesn't matter whether it is a Boeing or airbus but I have a tendency to choose the airbus because as you might know, TAP PORTUGAL flies airbus and I would like to fly for my country's airline. I HAVE A QUESTION FOR YOU, have you ever flown to LISBON? Did you like the approach? :) well I think it is everything! kkkkkkkk

Hi, I'd really love to fly the 737 just simply because though out my childhood it was the aircraft I travelled on and it inspired me to follow my aviation dream! On another note, I am starting my MECIR in the coming weeks and I was wondering if at all possible, you could do a video on instrument flight focusing mainly on approaches such as RNAV, ILS, VOR and NDB? Finally, I'd just like to thank you for the content you produce and the time you put into your videos! It is great to get an insite into thoughts and opinions within the aviation industry.

I think one important thing you left out is the medical. Basically everything else is learnable, if you put enough effort you can do and learn everything, even improve your personality, but if you fail on the medical exams there is no way to get around it. Okay that integrated courses do require you take the medical tests before you start the training, but if you go on the modular way you don't actually need a class 1 until you start your CPL and if it turns out then that you have some issue that can be a huge dissapointment. SO I think you should do your medical around the same time as your suitability test.

I'd like to do both long haul and short flights. Mostly short flights because long haul will tire your body out because of jet lag. Plus I'd like to spend time with the family at home. But once in a while, I'd like to do long haul and go for a nice vacation.

I'm in the process of choosing a aviation school and I'm trying to collect as much information as I can to prepare for a ab initio program. Can you please elaborate a little bit more on the suitability test? For now, I've been taking online aptitude tests, but are there any other types of selections I have to prepare for? Psychology tests etc?
I'd like to fly medium haul, short haul maybe, more for the frequency of landings & take off

Hello. First some medium haul on the 737NG, or why not the MAX in a few years. Long haul on the Dreamliner would not be bad either. Anyway...I would be so happy with any job as an Airline Pilot!
