    Urabrask's ability not having a polarizing negative actually goes with his character. Urabrask values freedom above everything else and is, in fact, at heads with his brothers and sisters. Exiling a card to play only on that turn is worse than drawing it for sure but it still affords the player the choice to play that card that turn. A very interesting way to express Urabrask's personality and virtues through how he affects the game.

    • @satansamael666

      The comedy here is that if you try to restrain his power with Drannith Magistrate, Urabrask becomes immediately nasty. And both can nest in an already obnoxious Winota framework.

    oskar isnt that bad. His big deal is that his effect supercedes timing rules. Opponent drops a huge board with haste? discard a damnation to your merfolk looter then nuke the board. There's lots of counter-intuitive cheese potential with it.

    One I would say is in the middle of not great but not awful would be Hazezon, Shaped of Sand. It’s has some landfall synergy along with some token strategy: however theirs not enough deserts in the game (16 in total) so in order to make it worth you have to run all the deserts available in Naya. So I’m hoping we get more deserts lands or a card like Urborg or yavimaya that gives your lands a desert subtype in addition to its other types

    What I was most disappointed by Urabrask’s new iteration is that the opponent’s half is such an infrequent effect. While Vorinclex and Sheoldred are affecting the opponent at any given opportunity, Jin Gitaxas “only” counters one (and specific) card a turn; though instant, and sorceries tend to be the most common forms of removal so that’s still incredibly good. In a format where card draw is so prolific that Nekusar is still a scary threat, one card per turn cycle per opponent that can still be played on that turn is not strong enough.
    Easiest solution would’ve been to slap Uba Mask’s ability onto Urabrask and make it only affect your opponents instead. Probably not gonna change enough, but at least gives the card purpose

    • @ComstarAgent
      @ComstarAgent Před rokem

      Infrequent? Urabrask’s effect happens every turn. It forces your opponent to make suboptimal plays by forcing them to either play the card they drew or lose it.

    • @jmanwild87
      @jmanwild87 Před rokem

      @@ComstarAgent the problem is is that's nothing compared to new Jin Gitaxis (countering removal and utility/ramp artifacts and doubling the first artifact/sorcery/instant) great inevitability and lifegain with sheoldred a super counter doubler in new vorinclex and new Elesh norn is torpor orb + panharmonicon. Every other preator has massive immediate impacts and big plays. New Urabrask is just a worse uba mask stapled to a worse Phyrexian arena. Like if his effects affected each draw (whenever you draw a card exile an additional card you may play that card until your next end step.) And stax effect for the opponents was just uba mask he'd be a significantly more praetor feeling card.

    Oskar is already CEDH level. The discard and cast effect gives all your cards flash, essentially, and there are plenty of ways to generate mana off of that. He's just very complicated to play, and kinda requires a similar playstyle to the Gitrog Monster. It's arguably too complex to play well.

    Curious as to how you would fix Urabrask to be closer in level to the other praetors? All cards your opponent draws are exiled and playable until end of turn? Opponent skips draw step? Cards are exiled and not playable? Or would you go with a different theme from impulse draw all together?
