A Lore Overview of Karl Franz is the topic you guys chose in the last CZcams Poll we did so hopefully you will find this video entertaining. Making this video and putting it together was a bit of a challenge since Karl Franz is one of the most (if not the most) known characters of the Old World, so that extra pressure of "getting things right" was there. Thankfully I had the helping hand of my buddy Uncle for part of the script and the awesome voice acting of Skrubasauras to give life to the video.

Its weird. Bretonnia invaded the Empire early into his reign - kinda at odds with Louen apparently being friendly with Karl-Franz prior.
When the Emperor marched to aid Averland, the greenskins are coming from the West? I don't know the orientation of the map and when I checked it, it looks as if the GS are marching West from the East and KF marched east from Reikland to meet them?

I'm a 40k guy, so reading about WHFB feels like reading ancient history, in a good way. Seeing a mere human acquire, quite deservedly, the title of Emperor is interesting, as Karl Franz is much more of a person than Big E. He has a name, a family, and a body that still lives, traits the God Emperor lacks.
Big E is quite a mysterious character I must say. With visible traits of humanity here and there but mostly portrayed as a god or something above everyone else.

Remember, that the God Emperor, also has showed a lots of similar traits like Karl Franz in 30K as he was still walking among men. Also they are both completly different in nature. Big E walked the earth since the stone age as a manifestation of human spirit and will all the way into the 41st millennium. Karl Franz is like a HRE Emperor who claims the throne after a bunch of unsuccessful predecssor making him the first since decades, rulling the Empire with success.
A united empire allied with dwarves and bretonia can crush these angsty chaos warriors

Men, Elves and Dwarves unite!
If Brettonia, Empire, Dwarfs, Elfs (High and Wood) and the Lizardmen unite, Chaos Wouldn't even stand a chance.
That is until you fight an army of the most broken basic infantry unit in the game, the Warriors of Chaos. A demon possessed viking wearing daemon plate armor that is faster and stronger than an Adeptus Astartes from Warhammer 40k that is immune to cannon balls, muskets, giant monsters, and magic. Finally they are stronger than EVERY SINGLE elite unit of EVERY army in the game (besides the elite, squishy, elves aka the slanted eye squirrel fuckers). I know because that is exactly how they went on table top. They are the same here.
I love that Louen became a bit of a mentor to a young Karl, Bretonnia and the Empire should always be allies. I always have a hard time declaring war against the other when playing as the one.
In my M2TW: BOTET game as the Empire, those horse lords wont stop raiding me.

They were conquered by Norsca and Rakarth the Dark Elf in my current Empire ME campaign :(

They are in the Lore so they should be while playing as any of them!
And in truth the Dwarves to, minus the Chaos Dwarves obviously.
Considering this was a supplement novel put out with game I was very impressed. Prince of Altdorf was a really good novelette. Now we just need ot cram Karl, Louen, Gotrek and Felix, into a buddy comedy, where Karl gets cheated on, so they all decide to go the Chaos Wastes, and have one more insane party, before they graduate, and the time comes to grow up!.... lol ROAD TRIP: Warhammer
Fantastic video, but you forgot one of his crazyest feats, where he somehow walked into Athel Loren, charmed the hell out of the wood elves and then walked out with a Griffin egg! Franz is an absolute bad ass

They'd probably hand those out more frequently if everyone else trying to enter the forest wasn't trying to burn it down. Franz was probably the only one who figured out "Hey, maybe I'll be NICE to these people instead."

Words that describes Empire the most. I always liked the concept of this faction in Warhammer universe. Simple men, that stood tall against the creatures, best used as nightmare fuel, endless horrors, that human mind can only imagine. Surrounded by all sides, and even from the inside and beneath, Empire of Men do its best to survive. And Karl Franz, as best of his nation is representation of the state in flesh. Good content as always, pure joy.

Karl Franz shares similar traits to Robute Guilliman. While both are good warriors, they excel as statesmen and leaders. Both suffering from the annoyance of politics yet serve as a key unifying force for their people.

@@crystallxix1493 Guilliman is a primarch, one of the sons of the Emperor of Mankind and tried to rebuild the Imperium of Man before being killed by one of his brothers then put in stasis. Initially prideful, brash, but loyal to humanity. Now revived and gained some wisdom, Guilliman intends to hold the Imperium together as his key trait is a statesman, but the politics and Imperial Cult prevent true unification against chaos.
@@Amatsaru29 the main difference is that at least the Reikland is United under me and I have the support of most elector counts and the cult of Sigmar, our state religion, while my good friend Reboute has to work against the state religion and the Inquisition, making it even harder for him to keep the imperium United.
They are basically the same person.

Karl Franz, The Emperor. A true leader, this is why I love this character and he is one of my favorites Warhammer characters. A man that really loved and cared for the people of the Empire, united it and then he fell along his army. Such a sad moment for me when he died :,P but he died for its people, for the Empire, fighting against Chaos at all cost.

For everyone finding this year's from now:
Karl Franz died(?) at the tailend of the "End times". This was a series of books, which Games Workshop published to kill off the warhammer fantasy setting. Most of the warhammer community considers this entire ordeal non-canon, because of its low quality.
So yeah, this was a spoiler, but for every fan of the fantasy setting this is irrelevant.

So they try to hide the existence of skaven then they have an Emporer with skavenslayer in their name
Revisionists - like nowadays - are freaking poison. So "academics" in the Empire have been working on their "history" and thought it was too "politically inconvenient" to hear about Skavenslayer so Mandred Skavenslayer was slowly rewritten to Mandred II. His helm? Fashioned from a Warlord that got a bit close to Ghal Maraz? Simply an oversized rat skull. Mandred stopping a Skaven invasion? To the kids of the Empire, he's a comic book character chasing really large rats. Sounds very familiar....
Mandred "Skavenslayer" Von Zelt: "Skaven don't exist? Fake news! The Skaven are sending their best: best killers, best murderers and best thieves! And I am going to put the Empire first and put them down! All of them! The furries must die!"
Sorry but we are missing the story for why he's a statesman beyond peer i.e. how he got elected Emperor! Although only briefly touched, he wasn't interested in being Emperor because the strain seen on his father but he was also keen on simply being the Elector Count of Reikland and raising his family so he thought he was never in the running especially against other Elector Count's.
The fact he got elected Emperor because he persuaded his opponent's Elector Count votes and the Moot Elder to support him instead of Boris Toddbringer is a pretty huge feat. Boris was a total badass on the battlefield, years of experience and already had great ties with the Church of Ulrich so he already had their High Priest's vote (The Al-Ulrich) in the bag. He also told the Grand Theologist that a FOREIGN POWER'S DEITY had a vision of him being Emperor (It was Volkmar the Grim who - if you read Dreadfleet or his lore - is pretty much Judge Judy with a lower tolerance for bullstick from anyone who has no loyalty to the Empire or Sigmar) whilst getting what would be a load of social flack in having one of the craziest Elector Count's backing him to the hilt. (A guy who would, in response to getting threatened after a visit to a pub would decide to attack them first without caring if he could take them or not).
On top of ALL that, agents of one of the Chaos God was trying to assassinate him because they knew Karl Franz would be an Emperor who united the Empire instead of divide it. "Break it and make it whole again." - That's what a Wood Elf said upon seeing him when he was young and the Wood Elves saving his family from Beastmen. Mind you, just the story of his early life and HOW he got elected could fill one video!

What do you capture after you take Riekland ? I don't know where to go and just send Franz all over the place killing people but it's either too far from Riekland to protect or uninhabitable .
I have survived and killed chaos in two different campaigns only ruling Riekland .
@@ahmadtarek7763 It really depends of what happens during a campaign.
Marienburg is a good start as it's worth a lot of income, but it can get rough to defend vs Norscan (depends how aggressive they are in the game).
It also depends of what happens to other Empire provinces. If VC are strong, they're going to gobble up Averland and Stirland, do go there if it happens.
Most often, confederate weakened Provinces, even if they can be quite far.

I’m a newbie when it comes to the lore but after watching a lot of videos from this channel one question comes in mind
And that is about the lore. So if chaos minions especialy and other enemies of humanity are so strong in close combat then how did humans become a faction when they did not have so much artillery? How did they win fights? With numbers, bows and tactisc? also how strong is a very well equipped and trained human warrior in the lore like could one beat an orc in 1v1 or are humans just good in numbers, fight from range and with planned tactics? Lore of warhammer fantasy seems interesting indeed.

He is in AoS, as a blank golden automaton doomed to fight a war for eternity on behalf of a god that's already forgotten his name along with everything else in the Old World.

Interestingly Karl-Franz was only just elected as Emperor in TW. In line with The End Times around 2520ish IC. But in the old fluff he was elected Emperor in 2491 IC. Guess they had to make him a bit younger to make him a believable Legendary Lord action hero.
Listening to this felt a bit odd till I realized it was storytelling and not an explanation of wars and events. Genuinely a wonderful video to listen to. If I might make one suggestion it would be to put the bit about the other video, talking about the battle, either at the end or just have it come up as text. The difference in voice and pacing kinda threw me off for a bit. Amazing work all the same.
