  • It's so easy to tell yourself that if you just accept your anxiety, it will go away. Unfortunately, this isn't true. While acceptance is important, trying to simply force yourself to accept your anxiety will only leave you feeling frustrated and disappointed. There are better ways to overcome your anxiety - ways that don't involve pretending that it doesn't exist.

    My mind refuses to let go. It doesn’t want to accept. It constantly spins trying to make myself accept, then starts scrambling and spitting out every reason I should worry which keeps me stuck. It’s so frustrating.

    I’ve realised, high or low, versions of anxiety will follow you all the way through life. Thats why the term “longterm freedom” is so true. Anxiety is very uncomfortable and our natural response to it is trying to feel better. If we keep treating it like a problem it will stay and grow. By simply allowing your anxiety to coexist while understanding that it’s nothing but perceived danger, our minds automatically adapt to our behavior and calms down. Accept and feel, don’t avoid.

    It's hard when you don't have the money for an anxiety coach. I tried to sign up and it you could only pay 1,000 or less they won't even help you. I understand that everyone needs and wants money. But so many people need help with this but just don't have that kinda money! The world is so messed up 😱

    when i learned acceptance i basically just told myself "this is my anxiety okay. Just accept whatever comes and dont do anything."
    For me it was digestion related i let my stomach gurgle
    If it was sweating, heart palpitations etc responded with nothing and went on doing whatever i was doing.
    Shaan and DARE Response taught me well about the flight or fight Response and what it is and i am thankful for both teaching me the right way.

    My anxiety has gone down so much after watching your videos and I didn’t even feel like I did anything. Just by hearing you explain the way to handle it has unconsciously affected me. I still have work to do but even medication has not helped me as much as you !! Now I sleep better, breathe better, not as much freaking out in the car on the highway lol. I’ve been stuck with this for a couple years already, there’s no rush to “get better” but the improvement makes me hopeful, it’s okay if it’s slow. I never would’ve thought looking up how to stop a panic attack on CZcams and clicking on one of your videos would actually help. Thanks so much Shaan.

    This insight Shaan has is amazing. I had severe panic disorder last year after a sorta bad "worst cold ever with mild pneumonia symptoms". I recovered somehow with these videos and DARE. Recently I got covid (omicron? who knows) and my physical and mental anxiety is back with a vengeance. So I believe the same techniques will "work" (paradoxically of course). But man what a journey and I can't believe I'm going through it again so soon. And perhaps the fact that I'm even admitting to doing more than carrying it with me is probably a problem. Still, I cannot thank you guys enough for this information.

      I found that saying a dismissive comment to the thoughts work. Like for instance, i'm so tired of feeling this way, I might as well end it!! Laugh at that thought, or... Oh shit, that's an interesting thoughtđŸ€” then just do whatever you were doing. Try not to go down the rabbit whole with those thoughts.

    • @itsisha9762
      @itsisha9762 Pƙed 2 lety

      You don't need to do anything. Just say 'whatever' to it. Be dismissive and try to live your life like you used to. try to engage yourself in something, people say distraction doesn't work but it is the only option sometimes. If it gets too much just write it down somewhere in a piece of paper. I don't recommend doing that (using methods) for a long time because it might become a way to avoid things and rely to heavily on the mode to cure your problems. Trust me I've been through almost all of these things and there are days when I'm just simply pissed because of the fact tht I'm so self aware that I'm always trying to look for a solution- interrupting myself all the time. I think that's the anxiety. It's best just to leave it alone or be just meh towards it.

      I've seen many of the success stories. And many of them are young people. I'm 64 years old. And I don't have years and years to wait for this to go away. Actually do have some health issues. I've had them checked out by doctors and they are real they are not in my mind and they're not a symptom of anxiety. But those health issues do cause me anxiety. I tried accepting health issues that I can't do anything about. Unfortunately I think I'm still stuck in a loop. I do know what's going on when I suffer from a panic attack. I accept it not to make it go away, but just so that I don't cause it to keep going. It's very counterintuitive.

    Can someone guide me a little? I have allowed my sensations such as my numb hands but the problem is since I use or we use hands 24/7, I sometimes can't accept the sensation and even when I do, I think I have some sort of intrusive thought or something that tells me I can't grip something. I do get muscle weakness and once I accept the symptom, it goes away but when I grap my phone, my mind wants me to put it down as I can't hold it and then I am back to square one where I feel weakness again and then I am stuck in a loop. How do I break this habit? It is that one intrusive thought where you grab a baby and you feel like it will fall off your arm or something like that. I used to have such thoughts but I would brush it off but now am obsessing over them.
