  • How To Loosen Frozen Lug Nuts With No Special Tools: This is the easy way to break any lug nut loose. Using the force of inertia from a spinning wheel, you can loosen lug nuts faster and with less effort than you may have realized. Not only is this easier than most lug nut loosening methods, but you can also remove even the most stubborn frozen lug nut with this method. And the best part is, there are no special tools required. All you need is a 1/2" drive breaker bar (mine is a 24” Matco) and an impact socket, properly sized for your lug nuts. I can’t stress enough to use a BREAKER BAR and not a ratchet and to use an IMPACT SOCKET and not a chrome socket. Although this method looks virtually effortless, there are incredible forces at work which will shatter a chrome socket and/or break a ratchet if you attempt this method with the wrong tools.
    This is by far the easiest method to loosen a stuck lug nut. And, it's also the kindest method on your back. Once you master this technique, I promise you'll never bend over to loosen lug nuts again. What's not to like? It's easier on the body, faster and more effective than power tools, long pipes, etc.
    This is a cool trick I learned from my first boss when I was 13 years old and have been using ever since. In my opinion, this trick should be taught to and practiced by all drivers before they need to change a tire. You can break free even the most stubborn lug nuts with the lug wrench and jack that come with your vehicle, if you know how to use them. But, how many of us have been stuck on the side of the road and unable to loosen an over-tightened lug nut? Who knew the solution was right there in our hands all along? Please share this video far and wide for the benefit of every driver.

    A massive thank you from Australia, for about 3 months I've been trying to get the lug nuts undone on my Vy Holden Station wagon, a common problem on these with aluminium wheels , I tried a cordless impact gun, air impact gun and standing on a breaker bar to the point where it was going to break, so I gave up, after watching your video using the same breaker bar all came undone without fail, I was working from the ground without a hoist , that is the most impressive thing I've learned in a long time, thank you very much, I'll get a good night's sleep not worrying about getting stuck by the road with a puncture and not being able to change the wheel , as a side note my Dad could undo a drill chuck without a chuck key using a similar method but it never occurred to me this would work for lug nuts.

      Wow, this is great to hear! So glad this tip helped you. For some reason, people don’t want to believe it actually works. Too easy I guess. Thanks for making my day with your success story!!!

      Thanks again, I still can't believe they're undone and with no damage, I was nearly going to buy a torque multiplier but couldn't really afford it , but your tip was better anyway, thanks again for sharing one of the best tips I've ever learned.@@MechanicSecrets

    Anyone that has skinned a few knuckles working a car should already know this trick., but seeing what a lot of newbie people post on YT and FB, these real world cheats are not known,. Good job teaching the skill and great demonstration. You are so right about knees and lower back. If only I had a lift.

    Great job Batman. I noticed you took good care not to scratch your nuts and didn't have to pull them too hard to arrive at your conclusion.lol

      Ha ha! No nuts were harmed during the filming of this video. Wish I could say the same for the rest of the day.

    You can also reverse the shock and use a rubber mallet on the end of the breaker bar.
    I have been doing this in place of a proper impact because I am cheap.

    I notice that when you are spinning that wheel with the breaker bar, the wheel on the other side of the axle spin in the opposite direction. Do we really need to clear both wheel from the ground or the other wheel can remain resting on the ground, while we lift only the wheel we are working on? Haven't tried yet.

    Using your method with long handle breaker bar....do you brake off any lug nut studs?

    • @MechanicSecrets
      @MechanicSecrets  Před rokem

      In my experience, there are certain frozen lug nuts where you are going to break a stud regardless of the removal method. But statistically, this method actually breaks LESS studs than impact wrenches, etc. People expect the opposite but if you are careful with your form, this method really can break free some tough nuts.

    This is awesome but I don’t have a lift

    • @MechanicSecrets

      Almost everybody has a jack. Same concept, just a little less comfortable cause you’ll have to bend down a bit.

  • @XiueXelu

    But... Can I use this method to put the lug nuts back on?

    • @MechanicSecrets
      @MechanicSecrets  Před rokem +2

      Yes. But be careful you don't over tighten. Or snap a stud.

  • @tdb0ne1
    @tdb0ne1 Před rokem +1

    Don't this method break more studs then an impact gun?

    • @MechanicSecrets
      @MechanicSecrets  Před rokem +2

      No, not more than impact gun. But, it can easily break a stud if the nut is frozen to the stud. But if the lug nut is just over tightened or frozen to the rim it will break it free with out breaking the stud. If the threads are where it's frozen the stud will fail do to how much more energy is applied than an impact gun air or electric.

    • @MechanicSecrets
      @MechanicSecrets  Před rokem

      Yes, I highly recommend the lift for servicing cars, but this technique can be performed with a jack. Just watch your knuckles on the concrete/asphalt/etc.
