And apparently, Southern China is inhabited by many ethnicities aside from the Sinitic people who are the majority, the peoples who are similar to Southeast Asians are actually ethnic minorities like the Zhuang and Dai etc. Just like there are Chinese and Malays etc in Malaysia, but they don't share the same culture. Also, most Southeast Asians can trace their origin all the way back to Southern China, even the Malays. Archeologic evidence suggest that the original homeland of Austronesian might be the area in Southern China which is now Fujian.

粵語不是有9個音調嗎
總結先講：
對於學粵語的人來說，6個聲調已經足夠。所謂「9聲」（注意不是聲調，而是「聲」）是漢語學家用來比較粵語和其他漢語（官語、上海話、客家話等）時用的概念，如果你不是要做漢語比較研究的語言學家，基本上可以忘記9聲的講法。
簡單講解一下：
以下是解釋「9聲」的常用例子。
詩 史 試 時 市 事 色 錫 食
si1 si2 si3 si4 si5 si6 sik7 sek8 sik9
你可以看到頭6個字拼寫都一樣，是「si」，合符聲調的概念。
第7，8，9「聲」拼寫並不是「si」，而是「sik」或者是「sek」。
為什麼要將根本是另一個音的「sik」和「sek」歸納做「si」音的「聲」？
就算你接受得到，也很難和學粵語的人解釋。
越南語，泰語和緬語等聲調語言也不會將連拼寫都不一樣的字歸納做另一個字的「聲」。
另一個6個聲調已經足夠的原因是，其實所謂「9聲」的第7，8，9「聲」的聲調高度分別和第1，3，6「聲」重複（你唸一次就會知道，「詩」和「色」／「試」和「錫」／「事」和「食」聲調高度完全一樣），對於粵語學習者來說完全是多餘的概念。上面的「9聲」例子基本上可以排除789，寫做：
