  • A long requested video. These are some of my ideas on a 1000m race, the classic masters rowing distance, and how to plan for it. I am specifically talking about the connectin between physiology and mentality.

Hey Aram, I like what you say here. I have 30 years of masters rowing experience and would like to add my top tips for a fast 1000m.
    - Go off hard and high, but when you come down to race rate (at maybe 20 strokes in), don’t go for more length, just keep a nice pacey cadence.
    - You want to be at your race rate and leave energy in the tank for later in the race.
    - If you’re fitter than the competition, the field will split at halfway and you’ll go away to an easy win.
    - If your fitness in the same as other crews, you’ll need to raise your effort from 500m (or no later than 750).
    - When you raise the effort for the race to the line, you can go faster if you shorten up slightly. Or if you didn’t lengthen after the start, you’ll have capacity and energy to raise the rate at the same length.

And I have a video request: Could you make a video about the ideal race start? How many strokes at which length of the slide? I just go half, half, three-quarters, full slide. Is assume there are smarter techniques that pros use...

I'd recommend doing 3/4, 1/2, 3/4, full it build up much more intensity and get you ahead of other boats much more giving you a good position and speed

The 1000 meter in rowing, the 500 meter in a dragon boat and the 800 meter in track all take a lot of strategy training because they are neither full sprints nor long distances. You have to wisely "burn your matches" at critical times in the race.

Awesome Video. As an amateur rower without the resources to get professional coaching I greatly appreciate this know-how that you provide. And 1000m happen to be exactly the distance that we row in our regional races. Thanks so much.
But for further explanation: Could you approximately give the number of strokes after which I should go down to race split and strokerate? Is it immediately after the start? Or 10 strokes? 20?

Can you make a video on how to plan a regatta? From organisational perspective I mean, not racing.
