  • This question has reached me over aram.training
What is the best stroke rate for a rowing race over 1000m.
The answer is in the video, and probably not what many would expect.

This reminds me of one of my first coaches saying “The rating is set on the drive”. I like your recommendation to use a Speedcoach to experiment.

Thanks Aram, that was good confirmation for me, right now we are working on this in the pair, and I have been closely monitoring the spit through differnet rates at training. i have found our split the same numbers between 32 and 36, our coach also pointed out to us be carful hunting for boat speed that is not there at the moment. We are always hunting and I like using the numbers as the gauge for how the boat is performing as you say its all about boat speed at the end of the day. See you in no mans land.

my only comment is as a coach i would say thats just a lack in training. For me personally, if my athletes go up 2 beats they drop 3 splits. so essentially a 32wouldnt be faster then a 36 if the technical precision is equal ( this is a huge factor)
