    "It's called Lady Bird Lake but... it's definitely a river." THANK YOU! I've been here 16 years and still get hung up on that. It's a dammed river, specifically. And great footage of the rowers. It's always a pleasure having them come down to train in Jan/Feb.

    I love the slow-mo so I can really see how the hands work. The footage of the women's team in quite special - beautiful.

    Getting better and better Eamon. I love the fact that even with all the speed technology / GPS etc. the water spout is still getting used in the top tier 8

    This is really great footage, rowing aside.
    Loved how you could see the seperation early in the race, you could see the pace of the strokes, and the physical struggle and breathing of that crew.
    Really good to see it also sped back up, and the pace these competitors were pushing.
    Really awesome stuff, great camera work Eamon keep it up! You're a great job capturing this stuff.

    OMG the slow motion video is the best ever--each part of the stroke is easily critiqued. Great for tyros, but a must for Olympic class athletes where minor stroke improvements make the difference between chump or champ! I wish this technology was available when I was at Rowing Camp--I would of found my swing a lot faster.

    This really lets you see all the mistakes. The arms break before the legs are straight, the wrists extend way up, and the layback is not timed to pull the arms into the body. Nice job of filming all the common mistakes.

    What is the device on the sculler’s oar lock at around 9:50 and the stream of water at10:10? I’m thinking a trading aid to establish proper catch and finish and a device to measure speed. Am I close? I’ve been away from rowing for a long time. Enjoyed your footage!

    5:50 do you know what that drill focuses on? The one where they take a full stroke then an arms only?

    • @EamonGlavin
      @EamonGlavin  Před 2 lety

      After a full stroke, the boat is moving more quickly than if you took multiple arms only strokes. They were working on getting the hand speed up and actually connecting to the water when the boat is moving quickly.

  • @ashlyefloyd
    @ashlyefloyd Před 9 měsíci

    I have made the mistake of facing the oar lock the wrong way and you can immediately feel it. I didn't realize there was a "4 degree" slat. I thought it was just difficult because of where the oar is compared to the rigger. I would add to make sure your seat is back before planting you first foot in the boat

    What are those small poles around the oar at the 9:05 mark?

    • @EamonGlavin
      @EamonGlavin  Před 2 lety +1

      Those are for giving physical feedback on the catch and finish angle in your stroke! You set them at a certain degree on either end of the stroke and they're on springs so you just feel a slight bump in the handle if you touch them. Some people use them to make sure they're getting enough rach at the catch or not finishing too far back.
