  • This is Part 2 of the Soda-Can detector
    I want to challenge the magpies in my garden with something new, i go for soda-cans. I don't know if the birds can handle items of this size, let's se. This second video describes the circuitry for the metaldetector used for soda-can detection as well as bottle-cap detection. Also introducing the software for the arduino working as meta-detector / inductance-measure
    The initial plan is to just fill the working area with some cans 2020-11-17 didn't work...New attempt described here • Soda_Can Experiment up...
    I'm also working on the General purpose Object Detector (GOD), there are som videos about this AI-Camera based project coming up soon...

    Love this project and would like to build one myself. Would it be possible for you to share the Arduino code?

    I am disabled but have different species of birds that I have seen in my garden and I was wondering if you could help me make a device like yours. I don’t go out for weeks on end so my birds entertain me and I think this would be brilliant I would happily pay you for your talents

      Hi.
      I have no opportunity to help you right know. However, i think i have seen birdfeeders with integrated kamera and sound. I'll se if i can find the link somewhere.
      From time to time i livestream from my experiment, the first time i was surprised to all of a sudden have 25 viewers curios to see my training attempts. A few of them said they used the garden sound as a background while corona-working from home...they could hear when something happened and have a look at the video-stream...I'm now experimenting with soda-cans and are planning to open the live-stream later this week, Welcome.

    Hi @hansforsberg,
    Would it be possible to build a photo-detektor to activate the feeder if the birds deposited something non-metallic? I got a fantastic idea derived from your videos, that is perhaps even commercially as well as environmentally very interesting.

    • @LabbHasse
      @LabbHasse  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, introducing a photo-detector would be possible, even though one has to think twice to handel the ambient outdoor light conditions. Preferably use modulated IR-light.
      There is such an arrangement at the nut-dispenser,stopping the feeder mechanism as a nut passes...
      I have not explored 'traditional' sensing methods that much, since my plan is to deign a general purpose detector based on Camera and a neural network. There will be a video regarding these plans soon.

      @@LabbHasse Thank you for your answer. I see now, that I asked in a clumsy way. I actually meant a video/ai based shape recognition system. If the system could recognize different variations of the same type of non-metallic object it would open up for a very complex cooperation between bird and man...

    A question: How much energy does each serving provide to Magpie/other bird species? I ask because there must be a positive gain of energy for the bird. If birds got hooked on this idea, and it works as you intend , lack of gain in energy for energy loss by work of finding litter may lead to an energy deficit. Research show that the more intelligent an animal are the more likely it is to make choices that may go against their instinctive behavior. If a family of magpie's got in their head that this is their source of survival they may fly all over a city looking for litter... So energy in relation to work I would say is needed. If not it may lead to negative results. As for this Idea I find it genius. Great work, I wish you good luck with this.

    So the black cylindrical thing is the coil?

  • @tibor3696
    @tibor3696 Před 3 lety

    Nice very helpful! Do you think it is possible to sense the magnetic field around an AC cable with ~1A current flowing through with a similar approach?

    • @LabbHasse
      @LabbHasse  Před 3 lety +1

      Well, to sense the ac current flowing in a wire, you 'only' need the coil, and a way to measure the induced current/voltage in the coil. It could be made really sensitive with a few 'amplifying transistors cascaded' Something like this czcams.com/video/0hI3hVtiHKE/video.html
      The soda cans does not generate any induced current in the coil (well, maybe fraction...) That's why i use the active approach...feeding pulses and measuring the inductance of the coil...
