Even in the 90s growing up my mom and our street would throw block parties in the summer. My dad would basically DJ the entire thing, he has a massive CD collection and with his home stereo system he’d bring out the speakers. Whenever he put on any disco songs mostly the women (including my mom) would start dancing in the street. It was the 90s so probably more of The Macarena, Rhythm is a Dancer, Another Night and What is Love type music but the sense of community was stronger. I still live on the same street and we all just sit inside now. Haven’t had a block party in at least 20 years. Wish I knew how to convert VHS to share it online. Authentic 90s block parties. @Mister Supersonic when seeing old scenes on TV now it does seem strange that I lived through those times, even attending events similar to this. Disco was big. Many of us white folk were even walking round with Afro permed hair and carrying Afro combs (rakes) in our back pockets like people do with their smart phones today. It was all fun, and everybody was appreciating it. There were some grim moments without CCTV keeping things under control like today. I witnessed a few nasty scenes that would be less likely to occur now, but I remember regularly feeling like much of the crowd in this video. I even went out and bought this track when it was in the charts and played it to death
watching this I was thinking that but also realizing that music in general truly brings us together. the globalization of music is a beautiful thing in the way that we all want to share and participate in the sound of our stories on the same beats
Your hypothesis seems accurate. Lot of cocaine in that boy! And I love the awful cover of Linda Clifford's "Shoot Your Best Shot" for the sheer camp factor, good lord, what a terrible vocalist in that!
For me, it's impossible to be in a bad mood and watch disco videos. I love how enthusiastic everyone is about showing off and OMG, Italy, where is that guy now?!
The guy representing New Zealand later revealed in an interview the floor was slippery and several dancers injured themselves during rehearsals, which explains why he only used his arms. He also stated the music was too fast for him, but now wishes this video had never found its way on CZcams!

It was a dance craze that those disco dancers made up their unique moves - like the split-drop, tornado, snake legs, Broadway strut, drag and close, Travolta pose, the skate, rolling grapevines, funky chickens, hitch kicks and turn, the shake-your-booty with rotation, the heel-dig with spin, the knee drop, and even moves from jazz dancing!!!!
