    FYI - I put this exact unit on a Versys x-300 & found a rubber sleeve (Amazon) that fits over the threaded portion. Makes it very waterproof with a zip tie top and bottom. I used small wire loom & it looks factory. Just bought a '23 GW DCT Tour, viewing all your vids and I have to say you're a real credit to this community. Thanks so much.

    To charge something the Goldwing has to be running or in accessory mode, can't see the practicality of that. Also if you are charging a headset while riding you have a long cable reaching from you headset on your helmet all the way down to the port with you left leg now interfering with the USB cable. I installed Honda's cigarette lighter accessory port above the DCT handbrake. I can plug a Dual USB port into it to do the same thing but it can also be used to power an air compressor or other device if necessary. This gives one a few more alternatives than the one you installed.

    Chris, I was able to mount it above the parking brake. It was a tight fit for my fingers, but it was possible. I threaded the wires through the hole before inserting the port. Then I was able to thread the back nut by sliding it up over the wires, as a guide, to the back of the port. Then I put my left and right index fingers through the few spaces between the plastic braces and tighten it.

    • @txman951
      @txman951 Před 2 lety

      You were able to drill the panel above the parking brake using a step bit the same way Chris did without taking the panel off the bike?

    • @Towman728
      @Towman728 Před 2 lety +1

      @@txman951 I didn't have a step drill that size, so used a 1 inch hole cutter bit. Then a rasp bit to slowly take it up to the spec'd size, I believe it was 1.38 inch. Finished the rough edges with a half round hand file. But, to answer your question, yes there is plenty of room behind the plastic. Make sure, when you're ready to install, you plug the wires into the back of the USB first. Otherwise, you will have a heck of a time doing it in the cramped finger space.

    Compañero, si le das vueltas al cargador entra a rosca. No hace falta apalancar. Ya lo tienes puesto pero para otra vez , dale rosca claro con el agujero 🕳️ a medida y que quede justo. Dale rosca compañero, un abrazo 🫂 desde Las islas Canarias, España

    For the SCT bikes that do not have a parking brake, there is a panel over the brake lever area. It makes a great place to mount this type of meter. I mounted my Powerlet plug for my heated gear there. I may have room for this also. Thanks Chris!

    Hey Cruiseman, nice video! I installed the same plug on my cubby lid about 9 months ago along with a power switch and cigarette outlet. Since I have moved it to the left middle cowl (just the voltmeter)so I could see it better. Got to be careful on the spot you choose. Instead of plugs I just reorder the plastic. Originally, I installed the USB charger/Voltmeter to charge my Sena when grabbing a bite to eat at lunch. Now I just need it to monitor the battery/charger.

  • @PR-fo5uv
    @PR-fo5uv Před 10 měsíci +1

    Hey Cruiseman. I like your videos, and this one looks interesting, but I wonder if these outlets are practical. I recall seeing that you carry a backup battery/jumper in the saddle bag (as do I). The backup battery has USB ports for charging, which does not require the motorcycle to be running or powed on to charge your device. I can leave the helmet in the trunk (charging), while I stop for a bite to eat. Not trying g to be negative here. as I do enjoy you channel. Please keep them coming!

    Looks good. Accessory terminal screws on fuse box are beyond ridiculously tight. Purchasing a JIS (Japanese industrial standard) screw driver available on Amazon prior to trying to removing these screws will save you the frustration I experienced. Just saying.

    CruiseMan, I liked the wires you are using on your motorcycle battery. I assume they are for a battery tender. I’m curious what kind of wire that was? Every battery tender I have purchased lately comes with eyelet ring connectors which are too large and create issues using the rubber OEM battery terminal covers. Thanks

    • @cruisemansgarage

      They are for the SCOSCHE jump starter, but they have a Battery Tender adapter. czcams.com/video/Iy0RKLOS6cU/video.html

    Love watching your videos Chris.
    I have a suggestion about your voltmeter. Instead of moving it in the future you could make a plastic wedge washer for the front and rear.
    It would pull it a little more out and you can angle it upwards because you have lots of thread space in behind the panel. You just need to file the top and bottom of your hole to be able to tilt it upwards.

    Great job Chris nice and clean install. Can you tell me what you have hooked up to your battery terminals besides your cables? In the video you can see a red braided cable and a black/gray braided cable on your battery terminals. What are those cables for and do you have a link for them?

    Hi Cruiseman, in a forum I think you mentioned that you stripped the head of the ACC screw terminal. I've been meaning to ask: How did you get that screw out? Did you Dremel in a slot or use some other method? I'm in that situation right now.
