Back when Stomedy was a thing we paid attention to, I was sold on the idea that he was just an idiot. But now that we have had comedy acts and characters on youtube like Jschlatt, and now that shitposting is such a common artform now, I'm convinced that he was a comedic genius that pioneered the internet and is one of the many reasons it is the way it is today. We should all start worshipping Stomedy.

So the thing with the onion is actually very interesting to me, and based on what I know about both onions and chemistry, it's actually quite smart. Essentially, the reason onions make you tear up, is because they have an acid inside of them that's released when something cuts them open as a sort of defense mechanism. Bleach contains a base as it's primary component, and the thing about acids and bases is that they're opposites, and so they like to cancel each other out, and when they do this they release energy. This means that when he pours the bleach onto the cut open onion, the base in the bleach and the acid in the onion react, and in the process become a power source, albeit a weak one. It manages to produce enough energy for it to be picked up by the charger and conducted into the phone, and then cause the phone to recognize that energy is coming into it. I think it's so cool that, without realizing it, this man just demonstrates an effect of a chemical reaction with just a couple objects from around his house, and no real training (as far as I'm aware). Of course, acids and bases are very dangerous and volatile substances, so if it weren't for how dilute household bleach is, and how weak the acid used by onions is he definitely would have been in significant danger, and even then he probably still damaged his charger by sticking it in that onion, doesn't change the fact that I think it's cool.
