Just a quick video showing my 2017 Gas Gas Contact 250 ES trials bike. I got this thing to work on my balance and overall technical skills. Things were going really well with it until the went really wrong and killed my knee. Cool bike though.
Special thanks to my $10/month patrons on / dirtbikechannel

The important thing to remember about trials is that you need to plan on doubling the cost of everything.... because you'll need TWO bikes. There is nothing better than putting a friend on a your B-bike and testing each other on some sections. Then THEY get two bikes.... and pretty soon you have a trials club.
Instablaster...
My first bike was a 1972 Honda TL 125 trials bike when I was 7 years old . Quite a bit different than the machine sitting in your garage , but the same idea . I still have it too , though it needs to be restored to its former glory , and will be very soon . Skills were learned from that bike . = )
I wish back in the day my riding friends and I bought a trials bike. We could have learned some skills....
Thanks for posting this video Kyle. I bought a Contact 250 ES last October; fun and challenging bike to learn basic trials techniques. Finally, someone actually weighed the bike in riding trim; excellent...
Glad to see your recovery is going well. Awesome bike you got there
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve been asking for this video for 2 months!
Another very good video enjoyed the trip around your trials bike hope you're feeling better have a good day
You did it! Good man (sorry about the injury, though.) Really looking forward to your observations riding the GG, I love mine but it's probably the hardest bike in the shed to get good at. You don't need a really soft rear for dry rocks, the tyre compounds are super sticky. Have fun
I got a trials bike this year also, 2 stroke gasgas 300 txt pro racer , it really gets me tired quick but lots of fun
Subscribed. Nice vid. I miss riding. It's been 33+ yrs. Last bike Husky 250 XC (?'82 or '84). Life wife kids job(s) exwife got in the way. Now I'm retired and don't have family issues problem except that I am retired and very limited income. Over last 10 years have looked at the Kawasaki 110 and trials bikes cause I'm short. I can still want videos which I have been and I hope your leg gets better soon.
Awesome bike, always wanted one.
Trials riders use 2nd and 3rd gear when a bit of momentum is needed to clear a obstacle, another tip is to put a magnetic kill switch with a lanyard for your wrist much safer as its common to ditch the bike ....I'm on my second beta 250 after crossing over from enduro bikes , id recommend anyone wanting to improve enduro bike skills to get one plus you can find many more places including your back yard to practice .
Exactly dude. Trialsbikes are the go!!
Pat Smage has some great stuff out there as well. Mtb, trials and rc. He does it all.
Pat had a horrific accident on a side by side jump. You can watch his miraculous and inspirational recovery on Instagram.
Pretty sure that was his brother.
Phil smage
Just bought I beta 300 4t factory first trials bike ever love the thing 👍🏻
I Rip my ACL, back in 1979 Still waiting on Uncle Sam to help me & my walking situation. So take care of ur leg, don’t end up like me. Lol
So ironic. I was toying with the idea of getting a trials bike not only to work on my skills but also because they are safer. Then I heard about your accident. Welp, there goes that idea. So sorry about the knee! Hope your recovery continues to go well.
Google User get one ☺
Google User same here, but I’m still gonna get one
It's supposed to be the safest motorcycling around
Taylor St. Pierre yeah, anything is dangerous if you fall wrong
Taylor St. Pierre but trials is the best
Keep up the good videos.. Fan from ph
Cool bike, I keep a 1986 Honda reflex around for balance drills.
I have been looking forward to some trials bike stuff!
aaron johnson I have a few video's of trials
Great. Thanks Kyle. Now I’m browsing craigslist for a trials bike. 🤣
Check out Ryan Young's DVD series. Great info from first time rider to 3rd gear splats . 2nd series cover pro moves. Great stuff on CZcams as well.
Hey Kyle, I would love if in the beginning of footage videos if you put locations of where you are riding. I recognize a lot of the places, and it makes me want to know for sure. You gave my dad and I advice on the road up Tie fork canyon about taking our side by side up trail 311. I see footage of Spanish fork canyon, and loads out on the west desert. I would love for more suggestions on places to ride. Or maybe a video on top 10 places to ride in Utah? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Love your videos!! Did you ever review SSR brand dirt bikes?
Nice! I'm actually thinking about getting Contact 250 ES soon.
If you do real life weight comparisons you'll get more viewers for sure! I know that KTM claims waaaay less when all the Japanese bikes claim "shipping weight" meaning all the fuluids on the bike with full tank of gas, ready to ride, like the Africa Twin is 532lbs real life. KTM1090 is 542lbs, not their claimed 460lbs - it's like waiting for a class action law suit sooner or later lol.
Pretty cool dude!!! dirtriders should learn trials if they want to learn skills and techniques that carry through to dirtbikes!!
The problem with trial sport, (because is really a sport, that needs a good condition) is became addictive. In USA good people loves hiking, so I don't understand why this sport is not more conventional. Nice innovative video
Why would you put a set on a trials bike it’s not meant for siting
Nice bike! I’ve been thinking about getting one with the euro dual sport lights and getting it plated.
Super Coder get one, they are the best!
Hey Kyle,
Ive been watching you for the last year and like What you are doing.
I ride a 125 ktm sx motocross bike both in the Woods and on the track and i feel that the Mx bike has to be ridden more aggressive then the enduro bikes my freinds have. Upside to this is when we are on a track i ride faster dew to the aggressive style i need to have and the down side is when we are trail riding when you dont know whats behind the next corner.
I think you should compare more Mx bikes to enduro bikes.
And mabe also go to a track and compare?
Keep up the good work👍
Important to remember a 250cc trials bike is a big machine and can be easily dangerous to the careless usually you learn on a 125 to 150cc nowadays with older (and fatter) learners a 175cc
..and what about older, 'stout' n short riders?
how much did you weigh when you were riding 125cc or 150cc?
I'm looking at buying a 2017 txt. Where's my best source to get a long range seat for it? Thank you!
How has it worked out for your wife to ride? Is it a real option for trail riding for a smaller person? When I "raced" my first cross country race earlier this month, my wife and oldest daughter said they wanted to start riding and maybe try it. I'm sure they'd be a leisurely pace. They are small in stature, 4'10 and 5'. Thoughts?
BMX bikes also make great training tools if you have a limited budget.
Nice bike k.
these come road legal in Europe, about the gearing, if I would like to ride at 100km/h Max, would the engine will be like it's going to explode? or it's possible?
We call that trail "Satans colon" but that's just what we call it. It is such a blast. Very technical trail. I like that not a lot of people know were it is.🤫
Hey Kylie post the video from devils crack already! Haha great vids btw.
I just tore my acl and Maniscis last month so I sold my bike, it will be probably a year til I get it fixed, I really want one of these bikes! How long did it take to recover from your knee I jury? When did you injure your knee?
What type of bike stand is that and roughly how much? Nice bike.👏🏻👏🏻
Yeah yeah yeah bought it for the wife to use lol. I want a trials bike as well to complement my EXC 250. A distirbutor here in Australia is going to be importing the 280cc version of this bike with full road compliance so at last I can get one!
What/which distributor Please?
I live in Melbourne Victoria.
I Really would APPRECIATE a reply Please.
Thank You.
Can you give us info on the seat? I never ride mine because I don't know any other trials riders, but with the seat maybe I could stick with the boys on it a bit.
Wish I could have this in road legal, it's perfect for Norway
Yep completely diffrent to enduro had my first turn on a 250 my friend says take it easy they lift up really easy blah yer wat ever carnt be worse than me rm250 whip bang smashed it to peaces good fun for that 2 mins i rode on it would still like one ...i think
Also the contact does have an hour meter that’s built into the little computer
Are you thinking about getting an Alta?
Im sure you've been told this already- but first gear is useless on most trials bikes. Its literally just for starting. 80% of the maneuvers I do are in second gear, trails are third.
Useless on a trail ride maybe but in a slow beginner section 1st gear is nice for chugging around the slow corners without the clutch.
Were do you get your dirt bikes
Could a knee brace save your ACL?
I would love to get that in a rolling chassis and put in an air cooled motor. Throw out all the stuff that just makes it heavy.
Trials is the shit 🔥🔥🔥
control swap!!!! good idea!!!
You mentioned adjusting the front, why, it supposed to turn ! When it's off the ground..!
Where can I get a seat for a 2013 TXT 250? Looking for bolt on. Not universal velcro. Don't want the glue on my bike.
If you take this bike on a trail ride, how many miles till it runs out of fuel? 2nd question,,, how fast will it cruz at in 6th gear.
Reason I ask these questions is, my wife is tiny. 5ft tall, she rides a 2003 honda xr100 and fits it perfectly. She needs a bike that's better suited to enduro riding, problem is everything is so darn big. Ktm dropped its 105xc years ago. We thought about a kx100, with its fuel tank n flywheel weight and rekulse clutch setup. But it's still a mx bike.
Man I wish someone would make a decent enduro bike for 10 to 15 year olds and small chicks to trail ride the way we ride our big bikes.
Anyone have any ideas???
Hello from Indiana
Hello from 'OZ'. (Australia)
Remove the seat and you remove the battery which means it’s not e-start anymore.
Also the Contact does NOT have tubeless wheels.
Riding trials was a blast but I got tired of the monthly $300-400 of repairs and maintenance. I could pay the payment on a pair of low maintenance dual sport bikes just on what it was costing me to keep my Gas Gas trials bike operational. But yeah, it's the absolute best way to learn how to ride an enduro bike and it really helped me be a better rider, still terrible, but better.
WOW what were you spending all that money on????
$300-$400 WHY please?
On WHAT please?
What are the issues please?
Please reply please.
Regards.
Using your momentum instead of technique is why you dented your rim
i think bikes should be weighed full of oil and coolant but no gas. All bikes NEED oil and coolant topped to the top. I rarely put a full tank in my 300te, 6L is fine for a 3-4 ride, i dont need all 10-12L that the tank can hold, but its nice to have the option when you're doing those 2-3 big days a year
BC Beast same. The specs of my 10’ yz250 say its heavier than my dads 06’ crf450r lol. Like idk how? But the spec sheet weights are based off from manufacturer to ship the bikes around the world. Once the dealer gets the bike they add all the fluids and crap.
fredman1085 it also depends if your on the gas alot or not. Some rides i will only use a little as well in my stock yz tank and be good. When im really feeling it and wide open i have to fill up at least 2 times during our ride.
These trial bikes come street legal in the EU so that bigger tank is a big bonus, shame that don’t make a 4 stroke model. Once there was the gas gas randonne but unfortunately they are discontinued .
I can’t believe he even rode it cause it’s a good reliable brand unlike his ktms
How did your wife like the bike? I was having the same thoughts about that.
Have you ever heard of vertigo trials bikes? Their main attraction is that they are fuel injected 2 stroke trials bikes they come in a 250 and 300 and for the 2019 theyre releasing a 125 aswell it seemed pretty interesting when i first heard of it
The Doctor 808 how much are they?
blazers12369 theyre more on the high end side since theyre fuel injected among a few other things i believe they cost around the 9,500 mark im not sure but i think its around there somewhere
Are they the Dougie Lampkin bikes?
Nick Egan they are the bikes that dougie lampkin currently ride
Where in the hell do you buy one?
Hello all riders
Yo Kyle, what music is this at the beginning? It's rad.
I think he plays it himself. He used to play gat in a band for years...
No kidding? This dude is legit.
If you need a new Trial-Bike sometime you should try a Sherco ✅
What is the difference Please??
Regards.

Thank you 'Mads' and Sorry.
I am 61 yrs old and have had 100's of bikes!!!
Currently have 4 bikes. 350 scooter, Royal Enfield 500 Classic, HD Softail Deluxe, Honda CRF 150.
Thought I would check out the trials bikes before I kick the bucket!!! hahaha.
Thank you and I appreciate your comment.
Hav a gd 1.
I hope one of these days you’ll test out one of KTMs adventure bikes. Either the 1090 or 1290. They seem very off road capable. It’d be cool for you to test and review one. At least I think it’d be cool lol
Seat link?
Hello from Australia im 15 and not sure what bike to get as i have out grown my xr 100 i would really appreciate some help
Liam Dancer yz85
Marcus Brady thanks man i was thinking about them but also thinking about a yz125 or yzf250 to kind of future proof so i can ride the same bike for a while im just not to sure
Liam Dancer your choice, however you should check out dirtbike channels videos on beginner bikes and what he says about getting a big bike for "future proofing". Not saying you can't handle a certain bike however the xr100 only makes 6hp whereas a yz125 makes 18 so your effectively trippling the power from what your used to and it's still a light bike for someone of your age. By all means get a yz125 if that's what you want but they have around 35 HP which is nearly 6× what your used to and its a full size bike.
Marcus Brady yeah that is a good point i have ridden my grandfathers rmx250 a few times so a 125 is a big step up from the 100 but i have ridden bigger bikes before not sure what make to go for all i know is i want Japanese
Liam Dancer Why not ktm? I love mine. 125 exc.
"Bike I decided to ride without proper safety gear, that I own, but was too hot and caused me to break my knee"
Sorry just giving you shit :)
Is this bike street legel
I think it could be done in time areas, you'd need a title, speedometer, turn signals, brake light, etc.
NO.
You have a trials bike? Maybe you'll finally learn how to wheelie!😁
Trials bikes are easy to start. You never use 3rd gear in trials
Does Toni Bou know that about 3rd?
We do use 3rd and 4th gears a lot!!!! Just watch some videos of professionals!!!
@@1998TDM Toni just figured that out 2 weeks ago. Changed his life. Might podium for once.
That bent is because your techniques aren't good.
Yeah you can really see that he's coming from dirtbikes...
Eetu T true
I'm no expert but that rim doesn't look like what I've usually seen on trials bikes. The spokes connect to the rim on a raised "edge" usually that's unlike any other atype ofbuke. This model is several thousand cheaper than their other models new, so that could somewhere where they cut corners
That would be a terrible bike to just sit on to ride around the trails.
I think now everybody knows you have torn your ACL..... Just about every video now you mention it...
Ever torn your ACL? If you have, you'll know it's a pretty devastating and potentially life-changing injury, especially for somebody whose passion is enduro and trials riding. I can forgive him for continuing to mention it
