Just a quick video showing my 2017 Gas Gas Contact 250 ES trials bike. I got this thing to work on my balance and overall technical skills. Things were going really well with it until the went really wrong and killed my knee. Cool bike though.

The important thing to remember about trials is that you need to plan on doubling the cost of everything.... because you'll need TWO bikes. There is nothing better than putting a friend on a your B-bike and testing each other on some sections. Then THEY get two bikes.... and pretty soon you have a trials club.

My first bike was a 1972 Honda TL 125 trials bike when I was 7 years old . Quite a bit different than the machine sitting in your garage , but the same idea . I still have it too , though it needs to be restored to its former glory , and will be very soon . Skills were learned from that bike . = )

You did it! Good man (sorry about the injury, though.) Really looking forward to your observations riding the GG, I love mine but it's probably the hardest bike in the shed to get good at. You don't need a really soft rear for dry rocks, the tyre compounds are super sticky. Have fun

Now I'm retired and don't have family issues problem except that I am retired and very limited income. Over last 10 years have looked at the Kawasaki 110 and trials bikes cause I'm short. I can still want videos which I have been and I hope your leg gets better soon.

Trials riders use 2nd and 3rd gear when a bit of momentum is needed to clear a obstacle, another tip is to put a magnetic kill switch with a lanyard for your wrist much safer as its common to ditch the bike ....I'm on my second beta 250 after crossing over from enduro bikes , id recommend anyone wanting to improve enduro bike skills to get one plus you can find many more places including your back yard to practice .

You gave my dad and I advice on the road up Tie fork canyon about taking our side by side up trail 311. I see footage of Spanish fork canyon, and loads out on the west desert. I would love for more suggestions on places to ride. Or maybe a video on top 10 places to ride in Utah? Thanks and keep up the good work.

If you do real life weight comparisons you'll get more viewers for sure! I know that KTM claims waaaay less when all the Japanese bikes claim "shipping weight" meaning all the fuluids on the bike with full tank of gas, ready to ride, like the Africa Twin is 532lbs real life. KTM1090 is 542lbs, not their claimed 460lbs - it's like waiting for a class action law suit sooner or later lol.

    Hey Kyle,
Ive been watching you for the last year and like What you are doing.
I ride a 125 ktm sx motocross bike both in the Woods and on the track and i feel that the Mx bike has to be ridden more aggressive then the enduro bikes my freinds have. Upside to this is when we are on a track i ride faster dew to the aggressive style i need to have and the down side is when we are trail riding when you dont know whats behind the next corner.
I think you should compare more Mx bikes to enduro bikes.
And mabe also go to a track and compare?
    Keep up the good work👍

How has it worked out for your wife to ride? Is it a real option for trail riding for a smaller person? When I "raced" my first cross country race earlier this month, my wife and oldest daughter said they wanted to start riding and maybe try it. I'm sure they'd be a leisurely pace. They are small in stature, 4'10 and 5'. Thoughts?

  • @endurotruckererniedesjardins

If you take this bike on a trail ride, how many miles till it runs out of fuel? 2nd question,,, how fast will it cruz at in 6th gear.
Reason I ask these questions is, my wife is tiny. 5ft tall, she rides a 2003 honda xr100 and fits it perfectly. She needs a bike that's better suited to enduro riding, problem is everything is so darn big. Ktm dropped its 105xc years ago. We thought about a kx100, with its fuel tank n flywheel weight and rekulse clutch setup. But it's still a mx bike.
Man I wish someone would make a decent enduro bike for 10 to 15 year olds and small chicks to trail ride the way we ride our big bikes.
    Anyone have any ideas???

Riding trials was a blast but I got tired of the monthly $300-400 of repairs and maintenance. I could pay the payment on a pair of low maintenance dual sport bikes just on what it was costing me to keep my Gas Gas trials bike operational. But yeah, it's the absolute best way to learn how to ride an enduro bike and it really helped me be a better rider, still terrible, but better.

i think bikes should be weighed full of oil and coolant but no gas. All bikes NEED oil and coolant topped to the top. I rarely put a full tank in my 300te, 6L is fine for a 3-4 ride, i dont need all 10-12L that the tank can hold, but its nice to have the option when you're doing those 2-3 big days a year

BC Beast same. The specs of my 10’ yz250 say its heavier than my dads 06’ crf450r lol. Like idk how? But the spec sheet weights are based off from manufacturer to ship the bikes around the world. Once the dealer gets the bike they add all the fluids and crap.

fredman1085 it also depends if your on the gas alot or not. Some rides i will only use a little as well in my stock yz tank and be good. When im really feeling it and wide open i have to fill up at least 2 times during our ride.

Liam Dancer your choice, however you should check out dirtbike channels videos on beginner bikes and what he says about getting a big bike for "future proofing". Not saying you can't handle a certain bike however the xr100 only makes 6hp whereas a yz125 makes 18 so your effectively trippling the power from what your used to and it's still a light bike for someone of your age. By all means get a yz125 if that's what you want but they have around 35 HP which is nearly 6× what your used to and its a full size bike.

I'm no expert but that rim doesn't look like what I've usually seen on trials bikes. The spokes connect to the rim on a raised "edge" usually that's unlike any other atype ofbuke. This model is several thousand cheaper than their other models new, so that could somewhere where they cut corners

That would be a terrible bike to just sit on to ride around the trails.

Ever torn your ACL? If you have, you'll know it's a pretty devastating and potentially life-changing injury, especially for somebody whose passion is enduro and trials riding. I can forgive him for continuing to mention it
