    On today’s video, we are taking the trials bikes up a trail called "Satan’s Crack". Both Tyler and I are riding 2017 GasGas Contact ES 250 trials bikes. I copied Tyler earlier this year and got the same beginners trials bike. This was shot on May 4th of 2017. It was the same day and the same bike that I tore my ACL and MCL, requiring surgery. That sucked, but the riding you are about to see did not suck.
    It’s true that Tyler and I are beginning trials riders and we are not very good at the “trials” aspect of this. Some things are easier to do on a trials bike, while others are easier to do on a dirt bike. One thing we noticed is that we use forward momentum on our enduro dirt bikes to “mask” our deficiencies. With the trials bikes, you slow things down and use actual technique, which is in short supply sometimes for me! Tyler has been practicing all summer/fall and he’s much better than I am at this point (he always was far better than me anyway). I can’t wait to get back to practicing very soon.
    Special thanks to my $10/month patrons on / dirtbikechannel

    This makes you appreciate the skills of the accomplished trials riders. They make it look effortless but it takes years of practice. I can only imagine that skill.

    First, drop the pressure in your tires. 5.5psi max in the rear. Then, run those tires off the bike as fast as you can justify replacing them. The OEM tires on the Contact are less than junk. Replace with Dunlop 803GP, or Michelin Trials tire if the budget allows. Someone before me mentioned the videos from Ryan Young - very good recommendation. As you learn proper weight/deweight technique, as well as the other techniques, you will find those little climbs (at the start of the vid) to be great fun, and very little work.
    Anyway, great video. Hope to see more of you on the trials machines!

    Kyle, trials bike are all about technique and control inputs not about momentum. Notice in pro trials they rarely have a run up but they use clutch and throttle to provide a pop that gets you up and over.

    • @robh3267
      @robh3267 Před 5 lety

      they seem to generate a fair amount of momentum when they launch up big obstacles but they always seem to do it starting from almost a dead standstill.

    • @EndurohpEngBr
      @EndurohpEngBr Před 5 lety

      Store momentum on flywheel and release it with clutch when needed.

    • @tomthebattleaxe
      @tomthebattleaxe Před 5 lety

      They do use the clutch to store up power and then release it while using various technicques to get the run up/jump they need. Kyle seems to ride them more like dirtbikes which is ok but the point of trials is mastering technique and using the body and bike more than brute force.

    Trial bike is about equilibrium not speed not fast, you just need to learn an practice step by step, a trail like the one you have it should be done mostly on 3 to 4 gear, I learned trial in Italy at 14 years old, today I ride big adventure bike but the technic I learned still today help me to do things with my heavy bike that no other in my group is capable.
    I love your bikes to bad is not available in Canada, cheers!

    I recommend you guys look up some Ryan Young videos. He'll show you how you can get that first big climb without any run up or momentum.

    Nice vídeo ! Nothing beats trial bikes in price / risk / enjoyement ratio. And it clearly masters your riding skills what ever The bike you ride afterwards. Love ti soooo much ! Cheers from Spain

    Next time you stuck on loose stuff with the bike, push down on the pegs and blip the throttle, you'll find there will be much less panting on your end and less scratches on the bike

    Add a trials tire to your dirt bike and do this same loop, lots of our guys riding Rocky nasty Missouri/Arkansas rocks use them and it’s amazing what you can climb!

    Trials bikes have a shorter wheelbase than an enduro bike.....combined with the higher horsepower to weight ratio, they are pretty easy to loop out if you aren’t careful.

    Kyle, set the carb so the bike won’t idle , it will make downhills so much easier and chop the throttle just before the top when climbing a steep spot like the one you were having trouble with. Just a couple of hints from an old trials rider. Thanks for the video and have fun !

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  Před 5 lety

      Really? Set set the carb so that I won't idle on its own?

    • @mrc1539
      @mrc1539 Před 5 lety

      Dirt Bike Channel yes, set it so the only way it will run is if you give it a little throttle. Try it you will like it , especially on steep down hills and tricky sections where you need to drop the front end and then raise it quickly. 😉

    • @Jonnyca21
      @Jonnyca21 Před 5 lety

      I disagree, I have been riding trials as my primary dirt bike for over 6 years and would not recommend this. A low but steady idle with properly jetted carb is my recommendation.

      Jonathon Carey , “ different strokes for different folks “ ! Use what ever works for you, but next time you are at a national event pay close attention to the riders on the two strokes when they get to a new section and park their bikes.

      The 2017 Gas Gas Contact comes with the seat.

    What is your tire pressure?
    When we ride our trials on the trail we find we can run much lower tire pressure then on our enduro bikes. 6-7 lbs in front and 5 or even less if it’s muddy for the rear.

    • @EndurohpEngBr
      @EndurohpEngBr Před 5 lety

      3 at rear with no problem

    • @Jonnyca21
      @Jonnyca21 Před 5 lety

      True, I run 3.5 to 4 rear and around 5 to 6 front unless it’s super sharp rocks and then I still only need to add between 1 to 1.5 lbs to both tires max on a trail ride on my trials bike. Never had a flat other than a puncture weed in the sidewall once.

    • @lukelambert7388
      @lukelambert7388 Před 5 lety
