Please note that this isn't reconstructed music from the Sasanian Era, it's entirely modern Iranian music with a historical theme.
The Pushtigban was an elite military unit of the Sasanian Empire, tasked with the protection of the Shahanshah. Most commonly deployed as fully armored cataphracts, they numbered around 1000 and were stationed in the capital of Ctesiphon.
The instrumentation consists of a violin played in the Iranian style, a kemenche, a tar, a tanbour, and daf drums. The time signature is 7/8, a time signature most commonly heard in Classical Persian music, and more rarely in some folk music like in Khorasan, and the mode is the medieval Iranian version of Nava, which corresponds to the modern Western Aeolian mode. - Hudba

I'm surprised you haven't already made any epic song about Mithridates I the great and his nephew Mithridates II the great
They definitely deserve more attention
The first was a great Shahanshah who fought and defeated all of his enemies on all four sides of his small kingdom including Greco Bactrians, the Medians, the Scythians and most importantly, the Seleucids
Mithridates I smartly unstabled the Greco Bactrian kingdom by supporting an Arian rebellion, invaded Greco Bactria, defeated and subjugated it's king Eucratides I whom he seized Aria, Margiana and western Bactria from
Eucratides was made a Parthian vassal, as is indicated by the classical historians Justin and Strabo
He then swiftly conquered Media and occupied Ecbatana and then immediately conquered kingdom of Media Atropatene as well
Mithridates boldly penetrated deeper into the Seleucid empire and took the kingdoms of Elymais, Babylonia, Characene and the city of Susa from them
His authority also extended as far east as the Indus River
An opportunity for counter invasion arose for the Seleucids when Mithridates I was forced to leave for the east to contain an invasion by the Saka tribes
They initially gained some success but Mithridates quickly defeated the Scythians, came back to the west, crushed the Seleucid army in battle and even captured the Seleucid king, Demetrius II Nicator
He literally freed the mainland Iran from the greatest successors of Alexander of Macedone and even gave himself the Achaemenid royal title of Shahanshah (king of kings) in his coronation in Ctesiphon
Mithridates II the great inherited the Parthian empire during it's dark ages when it was on the verge of collapsing but turned it into a major power again and started a golden age
He quickly gained the allegiance of the Characenean ruler Hyspaosines, who had originally fought the Parthians, and briefly seized Babylon in 127 BC
Hyspaosines returned the wooden throne of Arsaces to Mithridates II as a gift to the god Bel
Mithridates II turned his eyes on Elymais, which had been originally under direct Parthian rule, but had been seized by the Elamite king, Pittit, after Artabanus I's death
He reconquered Elymais and captured Susa
Then he confronted Pittit in a final battle, where he defeated him and conquered Elymais
It was first under Mithridates II that Parthian rule extended into the Caucasus
He noticed the strategic position of Armenia between Asia Minor, the Caucasus, and Iran so in 120 BC, Mithridates II invaded Armenia and made its king Artavasdes I acknowledge Parthian suzerainty and even took the future Tigran the great as a hostage
Other Caucasian kingdoms such as Iberia and also Caucasian Albania were conquered by him
Massive circulation of Parthian coins into Iberia, along with Armenia and Caucasian Albania, indicates that these kingdoms had been swayed by the influence of the Parthians
In the spring of 119 BC, a Parthian force inflicted a devastating defeat on the Arabs, who were raiding southern Mesopotamia and Babylonia, which was heavy enough to make them stop their raids for centuries
In 114/113 BC, Mithridates II captured the important Seleucid city of Dura-Europos, which was situated on the Euphrates
He fought and defeated the Tocharians (Indo European nomads), who had killed his father Artabanus I and cousin Phraates II
Mithridates II also reconquered western Bactria from the Scythians
Parthian coinage and scattered reports imply that Mithridates II ruled Bactra, Kampyrtepa, and Termez, which means that he had reconquered the very lands that been conquered by his namesake Mithridates I
In the end he defeated three nomadic invasions from the eastern borders of his empire
Sometime between 124 and 115 BC, Mithridates II sent an army led by a general of the House of Suren to recapture Sakastan which he did
After Sakastan was taken back, Mithridates II rewarded the region to the Surenid general as his fiefdom
The eastern extent of the Parthian Empire under Mithridates II reached as far as Arachosia and Indus river
Tigranes ceded an area called "seventy valleys" in the Caspiane to Mithridates II
He attacked Adiabene, Gordyene and Osrhoene and conquered these city states, shifting the western border of the Parthian realm to the Euphrates
He also made traded with China, which was very beneficial for his empire and people
Under Mithridates II, the Parthian Empire at its zenith extended from Syria and the Caucasus to Central Asia and India
It was under Mithridates II that the Parthian Empire for the first time established diplomatic relations with Rome and Han China
A wonderful performance! I only wish that it lasted longer.

Its a crime that we don't have a movie or series about iranian/persian history. whenever hollywood make movie that persians are included, they always portrays them completely wrong. i don't know maybe they doing it on purpose
You are a nation that has lost its identity and lost itself to Arab Terrorism, it is normal for you to be portrayed badly.
Both Hollywood and Iranian cinema do this on purpose

Hi Farya,
you made me, a polish 16 year old totally obsessed with persian history and iran in general.
I have already read 2 books about the Achaemenids. Currently reading the Shahnameh. Other than Iran, I also have read 3 books about Belisarius. Farya, you gave me a dream. I am an aspiring filmmaker and a writer. I will, one day in the future adapt Robert Grave's novel Belisarius on the Big Screen. You will be in the credits, for breathing life into the long dead memory of Belisarius! Thank you Farya, thank you for making me obsessed with Iran, Bizantium and everything else!
good luck 👍
Hope you achieve all your dreams mate🫡
Best of luck! I hope to see that become a reality, soon!!!
Hope you succeed in achieving your goals!
Hey bro :) Iranian tribes such as Scythians and Sarmatians can also be found in the roots of the Poles

Iran has the greatest civilization of all time.
The Achamenids, Parthians and Sasanids were absolutely unbelievable.
The Pushtigban were the elite forces, but it's amazing how even today in Iran, the army is called "Artesh" (Arteshbod in Sasanian times) and Sepah (Sepahbod in Sasanian times). What a history.
The colorful attire, armor and panoply of this Sassanian cataphract is nothing short of impressive.

Every Iranian song of yours offers a sneak peek into Iranian history and I love that because I'm learning more and more. Also, what a cool-looking armour.
The most elite of the elite Persian/Sassanid cataphract cavalry. The precursor to the medieval knights in shining armour. What a terrifying feeling it would have been to have to hold a line and withstand a charge from 1000 or so of these guys!
El maestro hizo su magia de nuevo. Ojalá los héroes de la antigüedad supieran que siglos después habría un músico que los honraría con su talento y su amor por sus historias. Ánimo señor Farya Faraji. 🙌🏽🏺📜🎶
Dastet daard nakoone! The Sassanian Era is without a doubt one of the most beloved ones by all Iranian peoples, not only Persians. I would wonder, how Ashghanian (Parthians) music could sound like. I would guess it could more likely sound a bit of a mixture between Hellenistic and Persian music...
You confused Selkovian era with Parthian era! Because in Parthian art and construction, there is no special effect of Greeks.
I saw Iran music i clickd and yup, you have done it again ❤
Absolutely delighted to see the Pushtigban get such a lovely tune made in their honour! Magnificent!

This was beautiful, Farya. Thank you, needed to hear it.
I know it's just an OST, but it is so well done that it brought tears of both sorrow and joy to my eyes at the same time. By listening to this, my mind was taken to the era of the Khosrowan and how those brave men used to be the guardians of our heavenly land of Aryana (Eran). Yet another masterpiece, Mr. Farya. Woah, I've never been this early, nice!
This music is gorgeous! the artwork too! :)
His armour looks sick!
I agree, the armor looks extremely dubious. with all due respect to the artist, this illustration looks as if the artist was trying to draw all the attributes of the Sassanids (masks on helmets are mentioned by Ammianus Marcelin, for example). and if all the items of weapons and armor here are real, even though they look tasteless together, the cuirass confuses me the most, it looks too unnatural.
@@user-gx7yv3hc3u yes actually from the old time we were trying to wear beautiful clothes that can cover most of the body, wearing these kinda jewellery was common in the elite soldiers

It was composed for that symphony, there's no other instances of it
Virgin Ayatollah vs Chad Sassanians
Both are Chads imo, from a neutral and scientific perspective, Ayatollah is essentialy an iteration of a Shahanshah. I'm pretty sure ancient Iranians would be supportive of Iran's goverment, and would not be bothered conservativeness.
People must know that Iranians have always been religious and Spiritual, Iranians used to pray en masse before going into battle similar to muslims, while Romans became drunk and indulged themselves in debauchery before and after battles.

Farya, great piece again.
You said that the time signature of 7/8 is typical for the Classical Persian music. You know that this time signature is also typical for some Bulgarian folk music and dances. We are thought that this is unique for European music.
Do you think there was a mutual influence (between Iranian and Balkan music) or just a coincidence in music development?
These Balkan time signatures are intimately tied to those in Anatolian folk music and Ottoman Classical music and are pretty much the exact same, formulated and structured in the same way, so given that Anatolian and Balkan time signatures are related due to geographical continuity, I would be confident in assuming their presence in Iran would also be due to the same geographical continuity, hence making them related.
That said these asymetrical time signatures are much more rare in Iran and nowhere near as popular as they are in Anatolia and the Balkans. 3/4 and 6/8 are what we use the most up to 80%, and 2/4 4/4 fills the rest. Time signatures like 7/8 make up less than five percent of the totality of our music in my estimation.
@@faryafaraji There is a belief that Ottoman/classical Anatolian music has its origins in medieval Persian music, particularly that of late Ilkhanid/early Timurid period. Since you mentioned that 7/8 was common in medieval Persian music, could this possibly explain the prevalence of this time signature in Balkan music? In this light, I'm also curious what you think about the broader influence of Persian music on Balkan music.
@@faryafaraji thank you for the detailed answer.

What the hell is a cataphract, I get that it's some kind of soldier, but what specifically? Also, is Ctesiphon the original Sasanian name? Is that just the romanization of the Sasanian name, it seems greek to me, (maybe it's the initial "ct" and the "ph" in there). Or is it just what the capital is called in English, because Greeks.
Tisfun or Tispan is the original name but in colloquial Middle Persian that city was also known as Dil-e-eranshahr (heart of the empire) or simply Dili/Del-e/Delhi etc....
