My Wife told me that she wanted this song played at her funeral as a message to her sons. To this day I haven't been able to listen to this song all the way through without crying. I've never been a person that cries but since I lost her it seems like I cry about everything.

LOVE this song. Bawled like a baby when I first heard this song so many years ago. Divorced mom raising three kids who are my world and she said everything I hoped for my kids.
Fast-forward some years later and I'm sitting in a chair getting a tattoo, a fairy gently blowing my children's names out into the wind and "I hope you dance" underneath it. My kids were with me. Was a special day.
My son, battling terminal bone cancer, said if he got the go-ahead from his doctor to get another tattoo it would be just two words, "I danced". Ugh, my heart couldn't hold the tears.
He never got the tattoo before he passed away, but we have that memory, and I'm so grateful for it.

My cousin made me three mixed tapes and put them in a care package to open when I deployed to Afghanistan in January of 2002. This was one of the songs on one of the tapes. Those songs were my outlet for when I was homesick. This brings back so many memories. I was 27 then and am 45 now. It feels like yesterday. I still have those tapes tucked away somewhere.

This was my mother-son dance at my wedding last year, and this song was perfect because she always encouraged me to put myself back out there even when I felt like giving up. I was in high school when this song came out and I wanted to sing it at graduation, but unfortunately my grandfather passed away about 4 weeks before that. I decided that song was more tied to him and my grandma. How they always wanted to best for their family. This was driven home when we lost my grandmother in 2015. I'd love to sing it again someday, but I can't even get through listening to it without crying. I miss them both so much!

I was definitely a teenager when this first came out, and the background of the chorus really tied the whole song together for me. It's subtle and compliments her held notes well, but the lyric of it is so powerful...
"Time is a wheel in constant motion that's always rolling us along.
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone."
The song is great, but these lines really just make such an emphasis on the message of the song about living without regret.
And yes, the girls in the video are her daughters, if I remember correctly.

Christmas 2001 I bought one for both of my sons, ages 26 and 14. 19 years later, ages 45 and 33, they are both married with children of their own and more than ever I hope that when they get the choice to sit it out or dance......I hope they DANCE!

I really like this song, especially how she's saying "When you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance," to in the last chorus, she says "When you get the choice to sit it our or dance, ... Dance!" It's not a hope anymore, she's telling you, just get out there and do it! The thing is, when I hear this song, I really believe she believes her fans and listeners can do it too.

I was a semi-pro dancer from the age of 3 (dancing on my mom's and stepdad band's stage) and even up till about 6 years ago, dancing at my brothers concerts or other friends' bands concerts/gigs. Six years ago I broke both feet, both tibias and fibulas in my legs and tore both achiles tendons! I am now 57 years old. This song hits me hard because dancing was my "go to" when things were not going good. I have rebroke my feet over and over, since the original breaks. I have danced at my cousin's wedding with my feet wrapped even! Dancing to me is head banging, rockin' out, slow dancing, two-stepping, clogging. polkaing, and so much more! I pray God will let my legs and feet heal so I can go full-bore on my dancing again. The only time I can remember crying when I was dancing is if I was slow dancing with someone I loved and those where happy tears. I truly believe God has dancing in Heaven. And I hope for you, that you will dance! You have such a good heart!

First lyrical rap and now country...
I really appreciate your open mindedness to explore genres that are not only foreign to you, but also that you are definitively not partial to. So cool that we have this platform available for us to all broaden each other's horizons. It's so much fun to see you slowly come around to these artists and vibes because at one point in time we all went on the same journey. I'm revisiting so many long forgotten songs myself along the way. Definitely keep up the country content.

If you asked me in the past about my favorite songs I wouldn't pick this one because I didn't listen to it much or at all. My favorite female country singer. She is so tiny irl but such a large sweet heart. Everyone in country music loves her. She has done duets with Willie Nelson and many many others. Such a sweet voice as you said. Those daughters are now grown and just as beautiful as their mother is!

I used to sing this to my son. I remember it playing during his elementary school “graduation” in 2006 with a slideshow of how much each child has grown. I wasn’t the only mom crying!

Not the first time i heard it but it was playing on the radio when my Dad got the call that my Amma(Grandmother in Icelandic) died. And ever since then this song makes me ball like a little girl.

I heard this song on the radio when it came out. Went ALL OVER TOWN trying to find the album...only to discover that it hadn't been released yet! This was 2000, and back then we didn't have the entire compendium of the world's knowlege in our pocket.

I sang this song to my children when they were babies, and I meant every word. I wanted them to have greater opportunities than I ever did. And now, I have a teacher, a chef (like her dad), a neurosurgeon, a college professor, and a lawyer as my children, and they make me proud every single second of the day. And they all dance...

I first heard this song when I was in high school I was in a club of sorts there was a national convention the national president of the club was retiring and she used this as her song I'm not sure what was wrong with her exactly now ,but she had some major medical problems trouble breathing and walking, but this was her favorite song so she played it as she was retiring. she said this song inspired her that despite her health issues she didn't want to miss out on anything. she ended up passing away I think like a year later so whenever I hear this song I think of her and try to remember to participate in life because we never know how much time we have left (can't say I'm always successful ,but this is nice reminder)... anyway great video just found your channel I'm enjoying your reaction videos

I love this version of the song with Tim McGraw Ft in the chorus. It adds so much more to the song. To this day I get choked up listening to this song. And I always sing out loud when I hear it. Your reaction was spot on.

Don’t know where I was the FIRST time I heard this, but my most memorable moment involving this song was when it was played at my best friend’s funeral in March, 2002. She loved dancing, and was the type of person who really walked out the lessons in this song. Can’t hear it now without thinking about her.
Another angelic voice - Allison Krauss

This song makes me cry. They used it in kindergarten video compilation of our daughters class. She’s going to college in less than 2 months & I wish I was ready for her to go. She’s always been such a light & so much love. I’ll miss her a lot.

The lyrics to this song can overwhelm our sense of self through our children. Obviously the author is speaking from life experiences and through the lyrics is exposing a wonderfully observant, wise and loving heart. It was easy to see that you were emotionally impacted TOO SUSHI......which is cool. I LOVE this song for my children.......AND.....for me. And Im an old dude.
