At the beginning of summer 2022, Russia used more than 60 thousand artillery shells per day. A barrage of fire that cannot be stopped.
At the same time, shells were accumulated in front-line artillery depots outside the range of Ukrainian cannon artillery. These artillery depots became the most important target of the Haymars. Long range, outstanding accuracy, fairly powerful warhead. Russian ammunition depots were destroyed one after another, this changed the rules of war, this stopped the Russian offensive. Amazingly, 12 launchers were enough, incredible efficiency.
Russia was forced to place warehouses far from the front line, which complicated the delivery of shells and limited the capabilities of Russian artillery.

The weight of the BM-21 MLRS projectile is 66 kilograms, together with the container it comes out to almost 100 kilograms. One vehicle is loaded with 40 M-21 missiles, almost 4 tons of cargo. A 152 mm projectile weighs 42 kilograms, including gunpowder and a box of 70 kilograms. A tank 125 mm high-explosive fragmentation projectile weighs 26 kilograms, plus a 10 kilogram powder charge, plus a box.
If we take the consumption of shots as 50 thousand per day, then with an average weight of 50 kilograms we get 2500 tons per day. Every day you need to transport 2.5-3 thousand tons of shells, plus other military equipment. Moreover, they are transported on military trucks of limited carrying capacity, Ural-4310, 5 tons. That is, 500 trucks per day.
The only technical possibility to organize this is the creation of warehouses near the front line. Heavy trucks bring cargo there; they distribute their cargo among military units, using off-road trucks with a low carrying capacity.
The removal of warehouses at a distance of 70 kilometers from the front line led to the fact that each 5-ton truck had to travel 200 kilometers per day to deliver cargo once. Although previously he traveled 150 kilometers and made two flights, bringing 10 tons.
Russia lost little of the monstrous amount of artillery ammunition; it was physically unable to deliver the required number of shells to the front line.

I have no idea how anyone thinks its a good idea for russia to do this. Even if you totally dont care about lives lost. As we seen in Ukraine, Russia wasn’t doing too good at first but they have adapted quite well with modern systems that have been able to jam American GPS guided munitions. Russia has been able to produce over 12 new tanks every month at a single plant. Furthermore, Russia has been adapting to this war and taking vital Ground, while Ukraine is constantly retreating. Ukraine has a massive manpower issue. At the beginning of the war Russia, losing its tanks, was pretty embarrassing. I agree. But they also have not been at war against an adversary like that. In quite some time they don’t have experience. Now they do unfortunately, Russia now has more experience in a modern war against a peer to peer then the United States of America does.
