  • Bark River Knives Bravo 1.5
    The Bark River Knives Bravo 1.5 is a heavily requested variation of the best-selling Bravo 1. The only real difference between this and the original Bravo 1 is that the blade has been lengthened to 5.8 inches.
    The added length brings a new dimension to the knife's usefulness, moving the balance forward. The Bravo 1.5 is a comfortable companion in bushcrafting, survival and general utility use. The longer blade excels at batoning.
    This version of the Bravo 1.5 is made in CPM 3V steel.
    Specifications:
    Overall Length: 11 inches
    Blade Length: 5.8 inches
    Blade Thickness: .217 inch
    Blade Steel: 3V
    Made in USA
    High-quality Leather Sheath Included

    I have the Bravo 1.5, rampless in A2. 3+ years and going strong. Butchers deer, carves netting needles, feather sticks, tent pegs and performs every other camp duty from slicing and dicing veggies and meat to batoning with grain and cross grain. Pot hanger notches, mortise, and dove tail are no problem either. Responds beautifully to water stones and charged leather stropping. Sheath still holding strong as well and gives multiple attachment options. Beeswax treated leather myself which gave it rich color to match the nicely done cocobolo scales. This knife IS for me. Usually team it up with a Large Case Stockman and an axe. Great choice for a high performance-heavy-bush blade.

    I use the Bravo 1.5 with a saw and tomahawk combo here in the KY. woodlands. I have grown to love the 1.5 very much. If you are not used to convex grinds it can be tricky, but if you give it a chance--learn the carving angles you will find it is a hell of a wood carver. It chops well in a pinch also as John has shown here. It is a great all around woods/camp/secondary weapon for sure....I think it is worthy of being called a "survival knife". I can say mine has never let me down, and sometimes I am not nice to my tools....just oil it up if you take a dip in the river or whatever. It should last a lifetime.Oh-----and my spine throws sparks from a ferro-rod very well.Built many, many fires with it.

    @Player_Review Před 8 lety +2

    Best production fixed blades, in my opinion. 3V is also the best field steel, in my opinion, soft enough to roll instead of chip but tough enough to do a lot of work before lining the edge up again. I prefer the thumb ramp, since I put my thumb in front of it for fine work with the Bravo 2. The pinecone resin handles are my favorites. The strap goes behind the retention slot, so it won't be cut. A Light My Fire Army firesteel fits perfectly in the firesteel loop. Perfect sheaths on the Bravo, again, in my opinion.

    I am glad you showed this knife, as BR makes awesome blades. You can order with or without the thumb ramp or jimping. The convex grind is the strongest grind, and a little stropping is all you need to keep it sharp. My BR sheath looks similar to yours, but mine has a place that holds the strap back when sheathing the knife to avoid cutting it. Thanks again!

  • @richroc7
    @richroc7 Před 2 lety +1

    Great video, it’s actually not a thumb ramp, you place your index finger in front of the ramp for precision cuts, it’s also sharp jimping because it’s your ferro striker instead of the spine. 👍

      LOL the sheath has a way to not cut the retention strap on the sheath in your

      You test a lot of blades but you dont know the difference between scandi and convex grinds nor do you realise when they say “high impact toughness” they are referring to its resistance to chipping or rolling rather than how the steel transmits vibration to the hand when chopping 😂

  • @csh6220

    Yeah, so there is a small notch in the sheath where you can place the strap. I agree, 3V is my favorite steel, I have it in a Barkie Bushcrafter and the steel is insanely durable. Just watch out for micro chips in the edge.

    Nice review. Bark Rivers are a little pricey, but they come with lifetime warrenties and are excellent knives. Just as an FYI and public service announcement, if you don't like jimping or ramps, they'll remove the ramp and smooth it out flush with the rest of the spine without jimping on the Bravo if you ask them to.

    Say Heah John, I'm a step ahead of you on this one, Infact I have the Bravo 1 and the Bravo 1.5 both in the 3V, Yeah, It's a start for my Bark River 3V set, My A2 set have the Green Ghost Jade G-10 handles, My new set in 3V are in Black G-10. As far as a bush craft knife granted it's not like my 3V Skookum Bush Tool, which is more of a carver, But as a bush craft tool all around, Yeah the Bravo 1.5 rocks, I'm talking fire prep, camp choirs, and defenetly I could think of alot more that wouldn't hold a candle to it in a survival situation which I include as bush craft. Yeah, I think you underrated the knife. You gave it a 5 out of 10 right, WoW, I use this knife and I rate it alot higher, Maybe it's not the Navy Seal 550, But it's not bad at all.

      Wingman115 It’s a Convex not a Scandi grind there’s a curve to the grind as a convex has not a flat V 0° angle edge. There’s a huge difference.
      The ramp can be ground off just ask. Also you show in your pics that the belt loop has a loop holder so the knife doesn’t cut the strap. Unlike what you stated that’s literally what the c shaped cutout is on the loop and why the strap is cut from the back of the loop and not the front of the loop. Please make a note in the video to correct these things.

      Not sure I agree. I have a couple of esees and a kabar. The bark river is always the first one I pick up when going into the woods. Much more comfortable handle better steel and better grind. Doesn’t rust like the others too. Just an all round better knife.
