Nespresso Vertuo Next - Don't Buy This

  • After a few weeks my Nespresso Vertuo Next decided to leak. I took it apart to find out why but didn't find any answers that could lead to a fix. After a quick search online I found that many people have had or are currently reporting this issue shortly after purchase. Some have even had their machine replaced as many as 3 times.
    Do not buy this product. There are much better ways to enjoy coffee.

    I buy these at auction and so far I have 4 of them. Two leaked where yours leaked. I took out the white washer under the blue one and flipped it upside-down. No more leaks

      Do you mean you then put the white washer on the top of the blue one instead, with the white washer flipped upside down to the way it was when it was underneath the blue washer?

      Holy Guacamole! I just put the white gasket back like it was supposed to be but THIS TIME I flipped the blue gasket upside down and IT WORKED! 5 Straight cups and no leaks! I think I can put her back together! Thanks for the idea Scott!

      @@christopherlloyd9954 took it to the cabin. had guests all weekend. worked great! I imagine that this isn't the problem on all of them. it was the problem on mine. But..... it is there. Those two gaskets are the culprit.

    Scott Riederer mentioned earlier that he flips the white gasket upside down and they work for him. I was skeptical. I took it apart and flipped the white gasket upside down, put back together. STILL LEAKED...... BUUUUUTTTTTT I took it back apart, flipped white gasket back to normal. THIS time i flipped the blue gasket upside down. White-normal, Blue-upside down.
    IT WORKED! AND IS STILL WORKING! NO LEAKS!!!!!!

    I followed the tip in one of the comment below and managed to fix my water leak , thank you so much ! The tip used was to flip the white gasket, put everything back and make sure to tight the final black plastic screw with an adjustable wrench or socket to make sure everything is well sealed and waterproof.

    I too have heard the Next model has leaking issues. I have the Nespresso Vertuo Evoluo model. This is a solid model with few problems with any per the various social media groups I belong too. I’ve had mine for about 5 years without a single issue. I use it almost every day.

      I don't think I've seen the same level of issues with the other models doing research. I got this one on a lightning deal including the frother and 30 pods for $130. I wish it was more durable.

    Yep. I got one of these from my company as a gift. Within a week, it froze up and wouldn’t brew. Nespresso replaced it with a Delongi model. It was leaking just like yours the first week. Nespresso replaced that on with one of their Nespresso branded machines. Seemed cheaply built compared to the rose gold DeLongi, but it’s been working flawlessly. But still, it seems like quality control is not a high priority.

    I purchase amazon returns for a living. Currently dealing with these machines with this exact issue. Feels like the little gasket gets hard stops sealing. I've tried a few repairs but no matter what the machine still leaks some amount. Personally i hate dealing with these machines, they are overly complex and very finnicky. They do make good coffee though if you have the dough to drop on the overpriced coffee pods. Pretty much just throwing these machines in the trash now because they are unrepairable (for resale at least). Very wasteful and disappointing. Although dealing with returns has opened my eyes to how poorly most products are made these days. Great video! Always nice not having to pry around for an hour to figure out how to disassemble the thing.

      No wonder 2 of them were in the Amazon's return box I just purchased. You just opened my eyes. Oh well, I thought this was a decent buy, but I now I guess I'll call it a loss

    For those who say this isn't an issue having 120/240 volts AC exposed isn't an issue clearly dont have any electrical knowledge or awareness of safety, I work on these things on a regular basis at work the issue is that the seal isn't compliant enough or loses compliance so we replace the seal with 2 silicone rubber seals when this is done I have not seen a single unit leak as usual the manufacturer wont acknowledge failures.

      @@joycejaime763 The replacement washers are 9mm in circumference by 1.5mm in depth with a 4mm centre hole I looked on amazon there are nitrile sealing washers of various types. So I would look there.

      The way I fixed mine is to swap the white and the blue gaskets around, and I've now been using it for months now, without any leaks whatsoever. Thanks very much for the dimensions of the replacement seals you use! 🙂

    Bought mine two days ago. Took it out last night and tried it for the first time. First cup was delicious, made my wife a cup and it leaked like crazy! Had a huge puddle of water on the floor. Made another one just in case it was a fluke- leaked again! Took a video of it and took it straight back to the store. Salesperson said ‘the Nespresso representative will be here on Friday, you should come back and show her the video’. I will certainly do that. It’s ashamed, the coffee was wonderful but to get a replacement every 6-8 months is a non-starter for me.

    I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment I purchased one of these late November 2021 so I could have my one good morning coffee at home, within a couple of days it started leaking intermittently but we persisted, it then needed descaling which we naively believed would resolve the issue but it didn't. So we contacted Nespresso they agreed to replace it.
    Our new machine arrived THIS MORNING.
    Straight out of the box I did the "clean before first use" it leaked like a sieve... absolutely gutted and very sad that I didn't find your video last November :(

    Sadly I purchased this same unit. Leaked like crazy! Exactly like yours ! .... even tho it leaked I kept using it. Few days later, when I would go to make a 7 ounce coffee... it only would pour out 1 ounce. Had to let it run 4-5x to fill the cup up properly. I ended up exchanging it for a new one. The new one worked perfectly for about 5-6 days. Then stopped working all of sudden. It’s really sad because the breville company makes amazing juicers! But the coffee game is not for them.

    I fixed mine by watching your video. Apparently it was clogged The pressure causes the water to leak because it was somewhat clogged. Blow with a small hose and many coffee particles come out. Thanks

      Just invest in coffee companies like cuvée for good ground or whole bean and get a French press

      There's bound to be a few defective products for everything manufactured in this world. Guy just got a bad unit. I've had mine for over a year with no issues and makes great coffee.

    I purchased the Vertuo Next in November of 2021. It worked fine for 3 weeks then wouldn't do anything. The light on the button would go to steady white and nothing would happen when you pressed the button. Called Nespresso and they replaced the machine. The new machine arrived 2 weeks later. It worked fine and 3 weeks later the machine started blinking yellow. Tried all the recommendations in manual, none worked. I'll be calling Nespresso The wonderful coffee is great but these problems suck!.

    I think they know this is a manufacturing/design issue, and they are trying to keep it hush hush. Which is why they’re pretty quick to send you a new one lol. It is Nestle we’re talking about here. We got a refurbished one that leaked everywhere and locked up, and they sent us a brand new one. It has been just a week or so and I just caught water draining from the top down the back.

      Yep that's how mine started and just got worse. It's not designed to catch any leaking water into the bin. I worked support at Amazon when the first Kindle fire came out and there was a design flaw with the USB port coming off the main board due to poor support. We were told to just replace it. I think I replaced at least one a day. My mom's eventually failed the same way 4 years later with a really good battery still. The data and power pads literally get ripped off the PCB still attached to the port. Such a terrible design. Unless it's a safety hazard or something really really bad, they will never recall. That's why PSAs are necessary if you notice something doesn't add up.

    After going through the machine, I realize that the beige seal actually becomes deformed when hot. It is not the proper seal for the temperature of the device. It's really unfortunate that this machine's failure and reliability comes down to a little washer that costs less than 1/10 of a cent.

    I believe this model is made by Braville and de’longhi I’ve seen same machine with either brand name on it, I bought the black with rose gold trim it has De’longhi brand on it. for my daughter for Christmas so far no leaks she uses it twice a day! I’ll keep you posted!

    I just did the warranty on mine after 1 month and had this exact issue. They sent me a different color…a less expensive one and now I’m doing a double return of the machine. Worried now if i even want to chance this same situation.

    Mine sucks. Had it about 3 months. It leaks and only makes coffee half the time. Don’t buy this machine! I got mine at Target, time to see if I can get a refund!

    What size torx bit did you use to get the top part off? I've tried my t10 and it didn't feel like it moved the screw at all.

    I just spent an hour on the phone with Nespresso. They would not send me a regular nespresso machine. They insisted it be the same machine, despite the regular machine being about $100 less. They furthered the insult by saying they would sell me the machine I requested for 35% off!. Horrible customer service, junk machine. I had to settle for a replacement. I may just put it on eBay.

    Did you discale your machine? Sometimes is just dirt in the water gasket, that is why they sell a discaling liquid, I have one of these machines over a year it works perfectly, best coffee ever

    I should add that I've had my machine for a year and I never descaled it which I know is not good. And customer service could definitely see that I haven't since I've never ordered and descaler until the one I ordered about a week ago and used just today. I wonder how many of these people who are pulling the machine apart and flipping seals and such are actually just resetting their machine in the process and it's the resetting that is actually stopping the leaks. The other thing I noticed is that the leaking was some what intermittent at first and it almost seemed like some pods would cause leaking in others wouldn't which in hindsight suggests that it's all about the machine having an issue reading the pod accurately and that resetting the machine is the fix.

    Same happened here. So upset. Had fantastic espresso at a friend's place while in Amsterdam. Came home and immediately purchased this unit, only to be disappointed with water everywhere from day 1. Not a small amount of water, about half of each cup (which seemed quite small compared to what I had experienced at my friend's place).
    So, water everywhere AND small cups of coffee and a waste of the expensive pods.
    HEY NESPRESSO, FIX THIS, FOOLS!!

    Yeah guys I hate this machine. My mom got it as a house warming gift. It leaks, it stops making coffee, if it does make coffee it makes like a espresso shot even tho it’s meant for like 250ml water. Had it for like 2 weeks. I don’t understand for such an expensive coffee machine, why we even need to be flipping it, screwing it tighter etc. also we threw out the box and I know we can’t return it. Why would I keep the box when the product should work. Honestly soooo disappointed and I spent $100 on the welcome package for pods. I tried a few of them but ugh why does it suck

      Still better than Keurig by far, I'd rather not have watered down coffee and have my machine break down after 2 weeks of use lol.
      I have the Evoluo, Lattissima, and got the Vertuo Next Deluxe as soon as it came out. Ive been using nespresso for YEARS with no issues. That might be a you problem 🤦‍♀️

      If their machines are so good why do you own more than one?
      Brewing coffee is super easy and coffee is cheap as it is. Why make it difficult and more expensive?

    Blinking orange light fresh out of the box after cleaning. Why doesn’t Nespresso throw this machine away and bring back the 14 oz pods.

    This model is on sale. Are they Krups? There were two manufactures when I had one before. A Citiz, it was OK but stopped working after a couple of years. Pixie seemed to be the most popular & longer lasting of the machines.

    hello ! I also have this machine and I'm very satisfied. However I can see that your machine is defective. Nespresso gives 2 year guaranty for every machine , so you should just call them and they will replace it right away. Another thing about Vertuo machine is that they need some time to start prepare coffee because there is a step in the beginning where the water goes through the capsule , blend AND THEN brew (this is not a machine's problem/fault , it's the way it work) .

    I have this machine, which I think has suffered from the same issue in terms of where it is leaking. The machine now does not power on at all. Just stopped working altogether one day. In your opinion, do you think the circuit board for the heater block might have been fried, due to the close proximity of it to where the water is leaking from? I have stripped the machine down completely and have taken a look at the main circuit board in the bottom of the machine, and that appears undamaged. There was no water or coffee residue on the main board, but there was in other parts of the machine. Thanks for your time.

      What about the power button circuit board in the lid portion? I never tried plugging it in without it if someone knows what happens that might help you out. If still under warranty I'd try contacting Nespresso first.

      @@naps1saps Received a replacement from Nespresso, but I still have the broken one. I think a replacement main board would likely fix it. Gifted the replacement to my dad, and that is still working fine for him at the moment (touches wood). I've pointed him in the direction of this video though, so he's going to open it up and come up with a fix for this inherent leakage area. He's a clever bloke. He will sort it.

    Having the same problem with my Vxirtuo next that I have had since December. Leaking non stop and wont even turn on now.

      That's what happened to mine. It won't turn on anymore, presumably because the leakage from the area shown in this video runs down the top of the machine when the lid is opened and runs down into the bottom where the main circuit board is, destroying it. Hence not powering on anymore. Nespresso know this, for sure, but they continue to sell the machine....

    This would be my 3rd time getting my nepresso replaced. 3 diff color again! I originally bought my Matte Black that I really wanted. Then rose gold because black matte was not in stock, now I had a choice to get black chrome! Does anyone have any reasons why these machines stop working? They wont pour again but why does that happen? Didn’t even want to descale right. Not worth the money but I’m hoping my 3rd replacement is my last and will continue to work

    This video is a 100% accurate representation of the actual functionality of the machine! Avoid nespresso like the plague! In addition, the last thing the company wants to do is make things right by you and will do anything before they compensate you or replace the machine.

    I have also had issues with my nespresso vertuo next. Issue with pump doesn't make multiple coffees, have to force it with a cleaning cycle. Called nespresso and they are collecting for repair next day. Still wouldn't recommend this model!

    Mine isn't leaking, but I did a thorough cleaning of the spinning parts and I think I got some water where I wasn't supposed to and now today the laser supposedly doesn't work after being on the phone with customer service. They want to give me a refurbished machine of the same type and I'm pretty mad about it because I paid a lot of money for this - it shouldn't accumulate coffee oils to the point of making it almost impossible to open and close so that you have to scrub it like crazy and then get water where it's not supposed to which breaks the laser. 😡 if the laser is not broken I would like to know of a way to fix it myself and get it working again but so far everyone just tells me that I have to clean the clear part and that should fix it. I tried that and it still doesn't fix it and you can't take it out to really give it the best cleaning possible

    Call customer service. I had issues & they sent me a new one. All you have to do is have your receipt & you're covered for a 1-year warranty.

    Just got hit with the dreaded leak. Is there any replacement gaskets to try to solve the issue? I've taken the factory ones out and put them back in all sorts of combinations without any success.

      Could try some kind of gasket paper but most I see are for automotive. Try pressing the current one in a book or between counter and a flat bottom pan with something heavy inside overnight to flatten the material around the hole. It might seal better afterward... Or get worse :\

      Add some silicone grease to the gaskets. Same (safe) stuff that is used on water filter gaskets and other plumbing applications.

    I love my Next. I recommend the Next. I love the carafe size too. Over a year and no problems. It's narrow enough that it can sit next to my Creatista Plus.

    I bought one. It sucks. It has broken TWICE. I took it back to get it repaired, when it came back it made a grand total of two (2) coffees before it refused to make another. Do not buy this piece of junk!!!! I warn you. You will waste your time and money!

    Ooops. Mine was leaking 3 times, was serviced 2x and still was leaking, and now they gave us a new machine... so scared it is gonna leak too.. mine leaks brewed coffee near the nostril through the space between black plastic and the colored upper part. SUCKS lol

    I had this machine (bought from Costco) for about 6 months before it started to leak coffee all over the countertop. I called Nespresso and they sent me a brand new one (and I sent the defective one back to them).

    I do have a vertuo plus works very well. Not keen to upgrade as it works but these machines have warranty and they will replace them.

    When you looking from the top (up) must have been: 1. WHITE, 2. BLUE, 3. TRANSPARENT. That's all - it works fine.

    i'd grab some gasket paper and cut it to fit between the inlet assembly and the base, not ideal but it's like a $4 fix

      Could work. Unfortunately I forgot to pressure test with the inlet connected. Just seems a bit fragile for how much it costs but hopefully this video helps someone even if to repair with a bush fix.

      Would not repair it. Send it back. I believe there is a warranty, but if it is new, just return it.

    I’ve had mine for 9 months. It’s just returned from the repair shop for the second time with a list of things that’d been replaced and repaired. On first use this morning, it had the exact same issue it was sent in with.

      I had a cheap 15 bar machine and ended up going deep into espresso and recently splurged on a Gaggia classic pro and added a microcontroller from the Gaggiuino project. That machine should last a lifetime TBH. Very fixable. I wouldn't get one unless you want to learn how to do espresso. If not, get an auto machine but they can be hard to fix.
