I love how Jack tried to shush Geoff from saying that "Compass points to spawn/bed" thing AND purposely kept his mouth shut about it just for the entertainment of watching everyone overcomplicate the compass. I love when he does that
Probably the best one that happened is the Pubert Addams considering Jack ACTUALLY SAID that it was a thing but no one heard him so they kept ragging on Gavin until Gavin proved he was right XD

I think the dumbest part about this moment is that Geoff was the one that pointed out the compass points to the bed. Geoff, one of the most absent minded people to walk on this earth.

It would point towards the beds because they slept in them and thats where they would spawn

except im pretty sure it doesnt point to beds, but to the original spawn, ergo, compasses are worthless unless you set up camp at the original spawn

compass only points to world spawn, not the bed.
But you can also change your world spawn.

A compass pointing north is kind of pointless (pun not intended) in a game like Minecraft where you can just check where the sun is going.
Ze Rubenator a compass in real life is kinda useless because you can just look up and see where the sun is going (see how dumb that is)

You would think that these videos are simply for super-fans to analyze everything, but they are even funnier when the other parts are kept in. Not a minute of AH dialogue fails to come up with something dumb, funny or both.
It's even more funny because the sun actually used to rise from north to south, according to the game's internal direction system
This is probably the dumbest, if not one of the dumbest moments in AH Minecraft.

I remember watching this and thinking "i bet that they won't know the compass point to your spawn"

To be fair that renders the compass useful only to navigate back to your base. Not useful for situations such as these

What’s funny is a compasses always point towards spawn or a bed. So they are following a broken system. I knew that from the start. I wanted them to say it so bad and they finally did.

Also, I think I understand what Jack was trying to say about going in a straight line being going in a cardinal direction; but the way he's making his point is adding to the confusion (beyond him not explaining the truth of the Compass not pointing North).
e.g., Jeremy says they're going NorthWest, and Jack says, "We're going in a straight line, so we're only going 1 Cardinal Direction."
Hey, Jack. Every direction is a straight line. You just shouted that you're going in a straight line, so you couldn't possibly be going *Northwest*, because Northwest isn't in a straight line.

Gavin is talking about magnetic north and south, which is inverse to the geographic north and south.

I hate to be that guy but... people named the Poles and the magnetic poles, if the magnetic south pole was really at the north pole why wouldn't they just call it the magnetic north pole?
The north end of magnets is attracted to the geographical north pole making it the magnetic south pole. Opposites attract and likes repel. Magnetic North is a term for the magnetic south pole which is about twenty degrees of of geographical north pole. It's not as complicated as I made it sound.

Honestly couldn’t they have traveled based on the MAP where it points rather than the compass?
The map only covers so much ground and they could end up going a long time in the wrong direction.

How the fuck does anyone not know that the Sun has ALWAYS set in the West, since Beta...
Why couldn't Jeremy figure out the problem when he started thinking the sun is to the north. The sun rises west and sets east it's impossible for it to be in the north.

Nope that was a bug in beta it now rises east to west.
@@TheSonic1685 This threw me for a loop when I started Minecraft again a few years ago, having not played since beta. I remembered the sun rising in the north. It made me walk hours in completely the wrong direction several times, getting me completely lost. I thought I was going crazy.
@@ze_rubenator I played since alpha I never remembered the north/south sun glitch. Was this something in early beta or later?
@@gregjones4705 I think it was always there. It wasn't of much consequence since there were no maps back then, so you wouldn't really notice it unless you used coordinates to move around.
I thought that when I first saw the clip but I kinda shut my mouth about it because I didn't know what Minecraft thing it was from, like maybe there was an update since I played or it's a mod. NOPE!

The compass in Minecraft always points to a spot near your spawn point.
The most frustrating thing about this to me is jack saying "we are going diagonal so we can't be going blank direction" or "we can't be going in between cardinal directions because we are going straight" he does realize that in 3d space you can go diagonal and still be heading north or go straight and head south east.
I assume due to game design the cardinal directions are set up to be in line with the blocks
