- With a lack of real star robots in Heat L of The Third Wars, the main focus is on Kevin Pritchard from the Panic Attack team in The Second Wars. Can he guide his new robot, Evil Weevil along with his new team to the semi-finals, or will it prove a step too far?
This Philipa is what gave me a lifelong attraction to blondes, ponytails, sleeveless shirts, and bellybuttons. Thank you, Robot Wars.

This heat was summed up by the final. Truly showing how bad random draws can be. Panzer seemed to have battery issues throughout.

The Craig Charles monologue at the start has to be the most confusing thing ever. The Roundheads (Or Parlimentarians) were Cromwells "side". And the New Model Army was comprised almost completely of trained professionals and is largely considered to be the first contemporary military, not farmers.
To be fair, he was off his head on crack.
It made him amusing.
The house robots repeatedly interfering with the contests/battles, along with damage they did to various robots, sucked. Their participation should have been limited, along with any damage allowed.
It's a TV show, not a real contest. So, almost by definition some things are scripted. Many house robot interventions are not inspired by the moment.
The audience had to evacuate because Triterobot was smoking so bad, and that stopped the battle before it resumed.

These were some rough days. Battles are much better now in my opinion but we wouldnt be here if we didnt go there first.
That's the truth. Still I love watching these older matches because of the innovation shown in many bot designs.
Oliver Cromwell fought against the Royalists or Cavaliers, his army where nicknamed the roundheads because of their closely cut hair , our presenter slipped up on our history in this opening scene.

There were really weak robots in this episode. The best part of all of Sir Killalot being set a blaze.

Flip flop fly is mindbogglingly weak.
The whole drum archetype is weak. I haven’t seen one I like so far (though I didn’t keep up with Robot Wars back in the day, I’m bingeing from the start). They all have such a slow weapon which probably couldn’t leave an imprint in wet concrete, and, by the nature of how they work, they come up short because the robot has to accelerate away from the target. They can’t just put a longer pole on the axe, because that would require more torque to swing. Of all the common archetypes, the drum seems like the worst.
@@NoobixCube Atilla the Drum and Stinger are about the only 2 good drum robots or robots in the same sort of style that were actually any good. They just don't seem to be a good design unless you either have a very powerful weapon on the end of the arm or have some sort of internal motor that can move the arm separate to the wheel, like it was an axe or something.
@@legodude494 I think Stinger got quite lucky with its draws and a bit overperformed in Series 4.
@@djulianerenbourgh4969 Yeah, it seems like if you have a well made robot with at least decent shock absorption then robots like Stinger will have a hard time dealing with them. Usually the problem with those sorts of robots is how to actually defeat them. Since they usually use minimal components or a rounded shape, it's hard to meaningfully flip or pierce them. In Extreme, Behemoth had a good idea by using the scoop and axe to lift and pin Stinger in place, but especially flippers like Chaos 2 have to just... throw them about enough to have the judges decision go their way.

With the way these kids controlled their robots, i could probably whoop their ass with a tyco rc.
Tbh the most impressive looking robot there is Panzer, with the tracks. Those rubber tracks will have a lot of grip on the arena floor, while grinder could be a good weapon for it but they never used it for whatever reason. Undertaker could also have been a good robot, but sad they never refined it. That first fight of Flip Flop Fly should've gone to Wild Willy, but I don't really think it would've mattered in the long run who went through. I do love their pre-match talk with Phillipa before fighting Evil Weevil! The highlight of this heat has to be Killalot being set on fire by Bash!

Panzer didn’t move to start the heat final.
IIRC Panzer burned out a motor right as the heat final started, it went into the arena fine, then died. A shame really as it wasn't a bad bot.
5:00 and 14:50 are both the best fights of this episode.

There are loads of outtakes somewhere with the controller driving Killalot intothe pit by accident. He did have a habit of bursting into flame in the earlier seasons though, mainly thanks to it having a petrol motor.

This is the only one that has ever popped up on my feed. So there's that possibility it's the only one that has popped up on a lot of peoples' feeds.
Something really funny about this episode: The Triterabot vs Evil Weevil fight was suspended partway through, the reason? The smoke was so bad they evacuated.

Good gods, why do people keep taking on RW with designs like Flip-Flop-Fly? Those things have an asinine weapon that depends all on good driving and velocity, and the damn mistakes always seem to lack both of those. Just make a stable 3 or 4-wheeled car and put some controllable weaponry on it so you don't have to spazz around looking like a deranged Hoverboard with PMS.
That monologue at the beginning told by Jonathan Pearce. I'll bet that was written by Craig Charles himself, given that he started off as a poet early in his career.

I can't remember even one instance where one did even superficial damage.
Stinger /Gabriel causes more internal damage
Stinger's mace was more of an impact weapon, causing damage to the internals. Atilla the Drum had interchangeable weaponry and it seemed to do alright, so some designed work, but very, very rarely.
There is a 3lb thwack bot in NHRL called Starchild that uses a hammer saw like Sawblaze that KO bots frequently.
DARN! Panzer had a good shot there! Get some better batteries next time!
IIRC a motor burned out right at the start of the heat final. It was driving fine when they tested it, the final startedand it burned out as soon as they tried to movie it (you see smoke coming out during the match too).
I hope Craig Charles had a word with his history teacher for telling him Cromwell fought AGAINST the Roundheads. And the Roundheads were a standing army, not random peasants. Tut tut!

nah, the first match is just wrong, flip flop fly wasnt moving for over 10 seconds already, they were immobilized. mathilda shouldnt be the one to push the actual winner who could still move into the pit...
As so often, a house bot (namely Matilda) jumped the gun and was completely out of order attacking Wild Willy while it was still trying to drive itself off the pit. It probably wouldn't have made it but we'll never know now.
I love Matildas unpredictable, almost sentient behavior. Lol that's what made the house robots great, they'd just do whatever

@@cr10001 ah, there lies the problem.. there were no competitive robots that she ever took out. Just shit ones, which made up around 98% or so of all bots. Which is at least partially why I never cared that they did it.
Matilda completely WRECKING Thor all on her own, outside the cpz, twice in the old series, and twice more in the reboot... is one of my very favorite things to ever happen on Robot Wars. The house robots make the show a step above what Battlebots was at the time, so if I had to trade watching Matilda or Killalot accidentally or intentionally decimate some guys bot that would otherwise just kill itself or harmlessly plink away at the enemy, just to have some peoples crap robots do better, I'll take having them in the arena, every time. Because as I said, it's not really a trade at all.
We can all have our own opinions.. so don't get your panties in a wad.
@@cr10001 so it's more like the female ref looking at the competitors and saying "wow.. you guys are absolutely horrible at this. I think I could take you both on." and then just knocking one out so that SOMETHING happens, and the next fight can start.
Also.. wild willy wasn't getting out of the pit 😂 as much as I liked the bot more than the flip flop garbage can, it drove itself in the pit.. I still think they should have called the other bot immobile beforehand, but that's not the people driving the house robots fault
I can't help but feel the first fight is BS.
The one robot was practically immobilized but for some death-bed level twitching for a while.
The second robot gets specifically ganged up on by both house robots and knocked into the pit.
The house robots leave the first robot alone.
The win is given to the first robot - the one that's been immobile.
This bugs me a bit.
Now that I've finished the video I actually think just about every battle was an embarrassment.
ya that was fucked up the house robots pushed him in the pit he should of won that war, but because of the house bots cause him to loose that was bullshit.. flip flop fly couldn't hurt a fly with that axe.
Most of these bots in the video was a poor fight so I'm glad the house bots jumped in lol
When I first watched this episode I hated that flip flop fly got through, I mean it had a flat tyre half way through the fight and stopped

For me this heat is just weak but the only highlight of it was Atlas getting decapitated by Shunt and Killalot being torched by Sgt Bash in the Pinball XD
I feel that the Evil Weevil team seem to lack experience which is why I felt they were quite shaky in their fights.
As for Panzer, they were very unlucky that their machine did not start where it really needed which costed them the fight.
Undertaker may be one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, but certainly not the best robot...

its actually a sad story, Production in series 3 was awful people were herded around and someone got a spike through their leg but the Undertaker team were rushed so much they actually never turned the robot on and were not told anything beforehand I think its the main reason behind robots being driven into the arena next series.
As long as I live, I'll never know why this is the most viewed heat on this channel
This really shows how much these competitions and even robotics in general have come. Even some of the least successful bots in recent seasons sport more maneuverability and better weapons than almost all of these . Imagine Minotaur or Bronco or Tombstone against these.
Not just in robotics but in the manufacturing process as well. Now teams with lower funds can still get access to laser cutting and cnc machines.
Flamethrowers in these never seem to do anything.

Why doesn't Challenger 2 use the spinning drum? Why didn't the match instantly end when Challenger 2 went into the pit? It went on for a while after that. And the Panzer team made a mistake by not equipping that saw they brought with them. They said they'd put it on for their final round, but they didn't, so I wonder why that was. Putting a spike on a side of a robot and then ramming it into another robot never penetrates.
reversalmushroom trust me... they do more then you think... comning form someone whos taken a blast from one, any sort of lipo battery or even Nickel Metal Hydride battery can either explode ore burst, also it isnt good on your PCB boards.... also spikes arent to powerfull till the last round... then they can literally poke holes in your base or chassie... also they can pop tires

Was there a time limit to when you could use weapons then? Challenger 2 NEVER used the weapon and it may have had a chance to shred one of panzer's tracks.

How did the Triterabot team (Later on competing with mouse trap I believe) Get away with using a smoke grenade in their machine?
little late to reply to this but it turns out the smoke was caused by Evil Weevil after they spiked Triterobot which in turn shorted out one of the main drive motors and according to them after the fight all the wiring melted.

They also had to evacuate the studio until the smoke cleared. Then they continued the fight where they left off once it was safe to do so. Editing obviously cut that bit out.
