This for me is the golden age of RW! I adored RW, but series 3 is where I truly fell in love. I remember also remember having a little crush on Paul Hart of Raizer Blade! Thanks for these uploads. You're an absolute legend.

Series 3 Mortis is a nice upgrade with the lifting arm. They really should have ditched the tracks for wheels though, it cost them again. Dark Destroyer is a wonky but fun design, the weapon is even pretty effective for this stage in Robot Wars, but why have it on the back of a robot that must be awkward as hell to reverse toward an opponent? And yeah, T2 were robbed, WTH was the thinking behind that judges decision?

They should have done seedings for this series. Maybe that would have saved us from this dismal heat. Even the heat final is like a very mediocre round one fight. Shame about SMIDSY, they were good in later series when there wasn't radio interference messing them up. Feel a bit bad for Psychokiller too, looks like they had the same problem.

Has anyone ever noticed how Damtonkia has defeated (and put out of main series) both Chaos 2 and Hypnodisc with easy? If anything, this flipper gained a legendary credit in history for having dispatched 2 of the "Big Threes" of original Robot Wars.

They really should have put more effort into separating the crowd noise from the pits or at least use a a better aimed microphone. Often you cannot make out what the interviewed roboteers are saying. But alas, Robot Wars is no more in the UK. I am so glad they dispensed with the gauntlets in later series.

Tornado are pathetic and didn't deserve any win especially not against razor

Storm 2 is no longer seeded 16. They're the runners-up in the 7th wars. Sadly, TYPHOON 2 is out of the competition due to technical problems after winning the 7th wars. Chaos 2 and Typhoon 2 have no luck on winning the world championship as UK champions.

I think this VHS was how I was introduced to Robot Wars! I still have the tape, and since finding your channel a few years ago I've been going through all the series in order! Thank you for uploading this and all the other series, as I don't know where else we'd get these episodes from! It's a bit of a shame that the VHS didn't include everything from each episode, but I imagine they wanted more of a "highlights" tape and there was probably technical limitations to the tape which prevented it from being able to hold the 3ish hours runtime that was the 6 episodes of series 1.

Plasma nitride treating is a real thing that can be done to titanium, improves the wear resistance though can make it more brittle if it does give way. If you watch closely in the Bigger Brother fight you can just see it struggling to move before Killalot picks it up, so that damage was already done, just exacerbated and cut by the edit. I do question if Razer could've got through the s6 wheel covers of Dominator considering Hypno Disc bounces right off and Razer spent the whole last fight failing to pierce Spawn, and doesn't seem to have any clue what to do with 13 Black before it gets stuck in the wall - they pretty much luck through half their all stars campaign that year. Still very winnable by Razer of course, but it would probably be more or a driving game than anything else, and if Dominator gets just one or two hits then it seems like it'd go south pretty quick.

Imo this is one of the most entertaining shows the BBC has ever produced

Watching this after watching Battle Bots makes me realise how fast advances in engineering and drives are now. . Battle Bots has some amazingly destructive robots and generally a far greater amount of reliability and more powerful drive systems than in Robot Wars. I never really liked the house robots in Robot Wars. Too often a would be set upon by the House robots and eliminated by them rather than by their competitor. Battle Bots, I think reaped the benefit starting their competition at a time when the technology of drive and weapons systems were completely reliable.

Razer could've been a House Robot!

Probably the robot that left the biggest impression on me in regards to how short its run was. Glass cannon is too generous, it was a styrofoam nuke.

Atomic had quite an eventful run during the Robot Mayhem qualifiers prior to its TV appearance. It won its first fight against fellow debutant Reactor, involving several flips and self-righting rollovers before Atomic managed to toss Reactor over the arena wall, which the team claimed what happened. I find that hard to believe, judging by Reactor's awkward shape and the amount of force in Atomic's flip on King B3, followed by the breaking of the lifter which from a first glance looked a bit fragile. Plus the OOTA rule was apparently banned in the qualifiers, but Atomic still advanced to the 4th wars based on the strength of that performance. Regardless, Atomic had a second fight, this time with NataPataBot (AKA Short Circuit, future Series 6 competitor). Atomic surprisingly had mobility issues and took a dive into the pit, but not before getting its polycarbonate side panels punctured by the opponent. Those panels were to be removed anyway for Atomic to keep within the weight limit. Not a bad first attempt by the way.

Ground clearance was another big thing that Prizephita had going for it. It was a real labour for Thermidor to get underneath, in addition to Prizephita’s ease in self righting. We saw shades of this in S4 too, they may have lost in round 1 but WBC also had a hell of a time getting under them.

Meant to comment on the last episode but don’t think I did so changing that, so happy to see this show back lol ^^ I used to listen to episodes on my commute to/from college and still come back and listen a lot years later so it’s nice to have more Was wondering what the other episode you mentioned you recorded would be, was hoping for a 3 hour shitbots of season 5 but this is a good too lol In a weird way it feels appropriate the first third of the episode is the Fluffy podcast, it really was the most notable series 5 newcomer besides S3 (and that was a new bot from an old team obviously). It’s interesting for all it’s reliability faults it didn’t do too bad in Series 6, Stinger got a lot of hits and it lasted a while before it died, and while its weapon died in the UK v German final it did last the whole fight otherwise. I feel like if Fluffy had just managed to pull an actual win there it’d be much less of the “what could have been” bot that it is, it’s performance in that episode is surprisingly good and it probably should have gotten the win like you all said, the judges said if 259 hadn’t conked out it’d probably have one against wild thing even with the disc stopping and that was a way more aggressive fight from both sides I also genuinely forgot it was even in X-terminator and Tsunami’s heat, that episode always felt like such a clear “two bots are so far above everything else” it’s crazy to think if Fluffy could have just held on it could have been a massive wild card in that lol. Guess that’s kinda the thing with Fluffy though, always a could’ve lol, wonder if that’s why they weren’t invited to any side events that season Mentorn was probably too used to them conking out Surprised Crushtaceaon wasn’t in this episode but guess it might be talked about later?

It’s back at last

Hypnodisc was one of my all-time favourites, for sheer destruction, along with Razer (not massively damaging but just looked so damn cool).

I think Disc-O-Inferno deserved a mention on this podcast for winning the second annihilator in Extreme 1 and Drill Zilla as it was impressive in the second World Championship. Apart from that, no arguments about the choices from me. I can’t wait for the series 5 sh*tbots episode as there are some robots from series 5/Extreme 1 era of Robot Wars that deserve a good roasting and it feels like there is a void to fill with Mystrsyko no longer on CZcams.

can’t listen to this until later, but seeing the pod canonically progress to series 5 makes me so happy. I go back and listen to a handful at least once a year, and within the past two or so months I’d listened to the Firestorm, Sir Chromalot, Razer and King B ones, so again it’s awesome to see these in my feed again
