I love this, I dream of becoming a biochemical engineer. I am fascinated by science
Same! Though many people have told me that it may not be worth it and im scared
@@silverbowftw5225 do what makes u happy
@@crysta1s512 thats the thing.. im just not sure at this point of what i want.. i know i want something biology related but people keep talking about how it doesnt pay well and theres no job security and im afraid of failinh. What motivated you to study?
@@silverbowftw5225 honestly, my sole goal is to better the world by using biochemistry in the pharmaceutical industry to improve drugs and vaccines. The thought of knowing everything around me and what it could be made of and how it reacts with everything else gives me a feeling of purpose and power. That's what motivates me. People will try and withhold u from the top, it's up to you to decide where u will stop your climb.
@@silverbowftw5225 also, a regular biochemical engineer makes like 85k a year in CAD. How is that not good money?
From the comments I have read so far, we all seem to have similar problem understanding what exactly biochemical engineers do but it does seem so interesting that we can't but care about its existence in the grey
Hi Adetoyese Albert, thanks for your comment!
Please do visit UCL Biochemical Engineering's website, and in particular our What is Biochemical Engineering? page, for further information about this fascinating area of engineering (ok, we're a little biased!).

Thank you so much 🙏
This video is great! Thank you so much
Glad you enjoyed it Janette!
"What is biochemical engineering?"
Hard as heck!
I want to ask this question as I don't know many things about carrier opportunities. In our country, there's physical science stream (math, physics, chemistry) and bio science stream (bio science, physics, chemistry) for advanced level. I'm doing in physical science stream. Can I be a bio chemical engineer one day by studying in this stream or do I have to study in bio science stream?
Are those streams in your high school/secondary school or are they in university
Wow it mixes chemical engineering and biotech my 2 dream cources maybe i should become a biochem enginwer
How do I make space marines not to be a joke or anything I just want to know what it would take and no theoretical
Does UCL provides PG in biochemical engineering
Thank you for your question!
You can find the UCL Biochemical Engineering postgraduate taught programmes here: www.ucl.ac.uk/biochemical-engineering/study/postgraduate-taught
You can find the UCL Biochemical Engineering postgraduate research programmes here: www.ucl.ac.uk/biochemical-engineering/study/postgraduate-research
And you can also search for all postgraduate programmes in UCL in our virtual prospectus: www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/graduate/
i hope this comment section is a fitting place for questions.
in the first part you mentioned getting contacted by people who developed a new drug and are looking for a process that will enable it's production; will your role as a biochemical engineer be to look into the process, identify the components and look into the biological and chemical databases to try & find an efficient way to achieve these processes?
in the second part, as one of the opportunities, you mentioned working on a vaccine; from the first part i sort of got the idea that you will not be inventing the drug as much as you will be inventing the process that enables it's production; is that what you meant in the second part, too? or do you mean you can work on inventing the drug itself, too?
i'd love to hear more about the spectrum of thing you can do as a biochemical engineer. this is a good video.
Hi Y B, thanks for your comment and your great questions! We're glad you've enjoyed our video.
Please do visit UCL Biochemical Engineering's website - search 'UCL Biochemical Engineering' or visit www.ucl.ac.uk/biochemical-engineering/ - if you haven't already, and find out more information on the programmes we offer, the research we undertake, and what biochemical engineering is.
We recently hosted a virtual lecture series, Spring into STEM, which featured a number of lectures from our Biochemical Engineering department, including one on Vaccine Manufacture. To catch up with these videos, visit our playlist - search 'Spring into STEM UCL' on CZcams, or visit bit.ly/3iN949U
Did u get ur answer?
Can Biochemical Engineering work in food industry?
yes
Is Pharmacy and biochemical engineering similar?
No
There are things in common to both topics but they are quite different degrees - but in practice Pharmacists and Biochemical Engineers work together all the time! Pharmacists are healthcare professionals which is not the case for biochemical engineers.
You can find out more about both degrees on the UCL prospectus if that helps:
Biochemical Engineering MEng: www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/undergraduate/degrees/biochemical-engineering-meng/
Pharmacy MPharm: www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/undergraduate/degrees/pharmacy-mpharm/
Is biomedical engineering and biochemical engineering same thing?? Plz reply mam..
Hi Indranil, thanks for your question! :)
You can find out more about our biomedical engineering degrees by visiting www.ucl.ac.uk/medical-physics-biomedical-engineering/study or by searching 'UCL Biomedical Engineering'.
You can find out more about our biochemical engineering degrees by visiting www.ucl.ac.uk/biochemical-engineering/study or by searching ‘UCL Biochemical Engineering’.
No it is not.
I wanna make a new compine!!
❤❤
Is chemical and biological engineering the same thing as biochemical engineering?
They are similar, if you have any questions about a specific programme then please contact the dept directly (email biochemeng@ucl.ac.uk) who will be more than happy to help
@@UCLEngineering thank you so much
Is it same as biomedical engineering????
Nope, biomedical engineering degrees cover a very large range of topics and do not go as deep into particular niches as biochemical degrees do.
They have a focus more-so on the macro scale of prosthetics and artificial organs etc whereas biochemical is more on the molecular level
im curious to know if a biochem engineer can also work in clinical labs, for blood or urine and other biochemical examinations.@@markmccloskey5709
