Rhythms of Italy DOCUMENTARY: The Pilgrimage to Montevergine

In the sixth episode of my Rhythms of Italy documentary, I will be tracing the path of an annual pilgrimage to Montevergine, a sanctuary located high in the mountains of Campania in southern Italy. The pilgrimage takes place every year on September 12th, and has been a tradition for over a thousand years. I will be following in the footsteps of the pilgrims known as A Juta, who have been making this journey along the same path for centuries.
Rhythms of Italy is my documentary series exploring and uncovering the remarkable musical traditions of the Vesuvius area in Campania, Southern Italy. The music of this volcanic land are underpinned by the thundering rhythms of the tammorrra, a giant tambourine that has been played here for over 2000 years.
