Keep in mind that on the BMW S63B44 V8 the headers are inside the V and the intake is on the outside of the V, so vice versa to a standard V8. BMW chose this setup because it results in much shorter intakeplenums, so the engine is much more responsive. On the other hand it sounds quite weird, but with some aftermarket exhausts it can sound quite nice. But still nothing beats the S85B50 V10 sound of the E60 M5 ;-)

E63 sounds better when driving or revving. M5 sounds terrible when driving or revving. M5 sounds better at idle though. E63 doesn't sound as good at idle. E63 is a bit quieter inside at speed. M5 would probably be quieter too if it didn't have that synthesized sound. Choosing one between these 2 cars is incredibly difficult. They are such a close match that it will ultimately boil down to which brand you are a fan of - BMW M or Mercedes AMG. Between these 2, I would choose the E63 even though I'm an M5 fan. The E63 is just better looking and more comfortable this time round. And yes, that terrible sound is mainly what lets the M5 down, imo.

The M5 sounds like a sportscar while the E63 sounds like a "boulevard-bragger". PS: If the only plus for the Merc is the sound, go for an aftermarket-exhaust for the BMW (like Eisenmann or Akrapovic Evo). Yes, it's THAT simple. To spice up the E63 to be more like an M5 is way harder and far more expensive. PLUS the AMG will never be a beauty like the M5 is.

The E63 actually has a growl and character, the M5 sounds like a 'boy racer's noisy shit car' with a big exhaust. And, the interior of the M5 looks drab compared to E63.
Honestlly the mercedes souned like a tractor and i couldnt just couldnt listen i think that the bmw M5 won but at high speed they both sound and drive preety good but at low speed the BMW certinlly wins

Aside from all the childish bickering both of these are phenomenal vehicles and I would (will!) be super happy and grateful to own either. Historically I think the M5s have been better cars in previous generations. However. BMW has gone soft while MB/AMG has really stepped their game up. Of these two I would have to drive them obviously but I'm leaning toward the E63. I just LOVE them and their interiors are perfection IMO. When I drove a 2013 S63 AMG I was sooo sold on AMGs. Jekyll and Hyde. S-Klasse luxury smoothness and comfort but wild banshee exhaust note and speed. In. Sane.

Mercedes' sound is better than the Bmw's sound. For me, Mercedes is more of an old man car. I prefer the BMW because it just looks and drives so good. For me BMW is the perfect car, the ultimate driving machine.
I own a 2011 BMW 550i X-Drive M-Sport and yet I would never talk smack on Mercedes or Audi. I love them all and they all look and drive differently, which is what makes them unique in their own way.
