Error Leave In “P” Fault On Dash (VW DSG)

- First time I’ve been able to capture this issue on camera, the microswitch failure in a Volkswagen group dsg selector mechanism, the fault is usually find stored in 0016 steering control module with a fault code of B116229 (odis) and this is the factory fix which replaces the costly need to replace the whole dsg selector mechanism
Part number for repair kit displayed in this video is 3Q0713128A

Hi pal so I’ve got the new shifter I have installed it but it’s only letting me put it to park and reverse 😢😢 I managed to get get it into all the gear but then it wouldn’t let me can you please help me

You would need a diagnostic technician to carry out some testing on your vehicle to work out the fault for you
Currently working at Seat & Cupra, this is common fault on the Arona's and some Ibizas, tpi advises, depending on symptom number, trying software update 1st before carrying out micro switch. Very interesting watching your videos seeing how much they are the same,. Thinking about trying to move up the brands, 🤔,.
Hey buddy thanks for the comment, I started my career at skoda and once I had got as far as I could there I fancied a new challenge so Volkswagen it was and I was nervous about it being totally different and yeh there are some different bits and extra bits but the foundations are very similar so if your thinking about making the move buddy don’t hold back :)

Hi, what is the cause of the sensor to go faulty? I've been told it is due to that the car is being stopped and switched off in Drive gear?
Nothing really to do with switching it off in gear more than likely micro switch part quality

hello again, i thought i would give a quick update, I have FINALLY managed to get the right part, and u were right, the 'A' at the end of number is obv a 'tweaked' part, unfortunately I've lost one refund cos of a shady dealer, but the rest have been great and refunded me, and to top it all, the new part is cheaper still ! , I haven't had the time to have it fitted yet, but will update you when this gets done :) once again, thank u very much for your help :)

@@TheVWMechanic_official hello again, just a thought, I have taken a photo of the new 'tweaked' part, unfortunately I cant post pics in here, but would u like a copy of that pic ? maybe u could use it for reference in a video about the new part ? as the old white switch is seemly about as rare as rocking horse poo now, anyone wanting that part will come up empty handed I'm afraid :( , and you can also see how it has been 'tweaked' on the right side of the switch, which obv fits into the selector unit for a better reason 🤷♀, anyway, it was just a thought , may help some of ur viewers who are looking for that part ?

Very helpul video, is there any software needed after fittimg the part ? Im fairly competent so I'd be happy to have a go at this repair but i dont have acces to VCDS/diag tool, or is it best left to a tech ?
Hey thanks for the comment and nope there is no coding required it’s plug and plug at most you would have to do is clear the fault that would be logged in 0016 steering control

Have an mk7 1.8 without dsg got a transmission error when ran the code coming up as shifter lever is this the same fix
It would need correctly diagnosing to make sure this is what the car needs

If it only happens randomly when driving for 2 seconds or so, do i need to replace? I’m willing to live with it as long as i know the car isn’t broken

@@TheVWMechanic_official thanks for the reply! as it is on and off only a couple times intermittently, would you suggest sorting it out or could it maybe just be a loose connection (I wont quote you on this aha)
To fully confirm the fault you would need to run a scan of the entire vehicle and there will be a fault in steering control module (0016) to confirm selector issue

Hey thanks for the message the issue could be one of these:
1)Faulty Gear Lever X-Y Position Sensor
2)Gear Lever X-Y Position Sensor harness is open or shorted
3)Gear Lever X-Y Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
I believe it’s a new lever as I don’t believe there is a replacement sensor for the shift mechanism
@@TheVWMechanic_official I want to add that some symptoms of a failing gear position sensor is that the car might not start or shift regularly and I don't have such symptoms I think it might be the gear lever micro switch what do u think

I dont know if this is case worldwide but i ordered part number as written in description through VW, it arrived and doesnt fit since this one on video seems to be same number but without the A at the end. The one with A is a completely different mounting - side mount and doesnt fit at all. Thanks for the vid tho im getting the right one now in a day or two 😁

If the part is available for a seat matey it’s really easy to fix
How do you know if you need this while or black microswitch part? (without opening your own to look)
You need to open it up to look as it depends on which lever you have fitted to your vehicle

Hi, thanks for this vid. So I have the same error on my SEAT Leon Cupra but the error code is obviously different 617752, but it is showing up with Carista as a steering wheel module fault. Will this switch replacement work for me, given it is the same vehicle group?
It will be in steering control module 0016 this fault and Aslong as the part number crossed to seat you can find this out by giving the dealer a call and asking them this

It allows the keys to be removed from the ignition when the vehicle is not in park that’s probably the most serious it gets

Hi! I need help... some time ago, while driving, I switched from manual to automatic D. The gear shifted to N. I stopped and everything returned to normal. After shifting into P, the gearbox locked. Code 28775, “no communication with gear selector module” . Can anyone give me some advice? Thank you DSG 6
Needs diagnostic matey no good guessing at this stage as you can waste a lot of money firing up the parts cannon

@najakakbzjxjzjzj in my opinion I wouldn’t replace anything until you’ve had it confirmed because what if it’s a wiring fault?

What actually happens to the original switch? Does it simply get dirty, in which case would a squirt of switch cleaner fix it? How easy is it to get to?
It fails buddy internally and the idea behind this add on is that it just bypasses the old one without having to be intrusive
@@TheVWMechanic_official Yes, I realise its a bypass. Have you ever tried to get to the original switch?
Built into selector lever would have to go pretty far into it to find it and by that point the labour of me doing it would be higher than the labour of fitted the additional microswitch so never really needed

I have a Skoda Octoberia So what you're saying it doesn't really need changing for several months as it doesn't really do a lot it's just a data fault.
All faults should be fixed as soon as they appear matey

My next video on this will be setting up the microswitch and you can have the car in whichever gear you need as whatever faults are logged you will be clearing them down after the repair
hi, sorry to bother you, may i ask WHERE you got this part from ? as I have the same white one as in this video, I thought I had ordered the right one , but the black micro switch arrived, and I have tried to look on ebay etc , but cant seem to find THAT particular white switch, and my local garage phoned around for the part number and could only got the whole unit for £470 + VAT !!! any help would be greatly appreciated :)
Hey your not bothering me the part number you need for this microswitch is 3Q0713128 and you can purchase it from your local Volkswagen dealership I believe they are about £50

@The VW Mechanic hi, I did actually use the part number you mentioned in ur vid, but just couldn't find a white one, and the guy I got the black one from said it would fit 🤬🤬, needless to say, it's gone back !! I didn't think to actually go to vw dealer as thought there prices would be be extortionate, however, if its £50, that's the cheapest I've seen, including the black ones that were at £79 !! Kinda sux having 'blonde' moments !! I was as a cook in the navy for 30 yrs , so mechanical things are way over my head 🤦♀️ once again, thank you very much for ur help 🥰

What are the basic settings you speak of ?
Basic settings are just getting the microswitch in the correct position it’s really easy for me to show my version of it

If you give vw commercials a call matey they can give you the correct part number as I don’t work for commercials I can’t see their systems

Hey I would love to be able to give a part number however I can’t guarantee the accuracy as I only quote the part number of the part I’m actually fitting as I’ve been able to confirm it with a few checks I have to do before hand. My best advice would be to contact your local dealer who will be able to confirm more with your chassis number

Hey good evening Thankyou for the comment although I’ve not tried this repair on the Audi it does list the Audi S-tronic 2013-2019 as effected vehicle so if it looks like the repair your seeing in this video it could save you some money 😃

6 speed wet clutch and 7 speed dry clutch compatible it just depends on the gear lever fitting into your vehicle

Can the switch be replaced?
If you’ve got a certain selector mechanism there is the option of a repair kit rather than the very expensive full selector unit
