    Great video, have to say for me the squier is definitely the better looking guitar but all personal taste, those classic vibes are hard to beat for the money

    Love the Black Strat. Prefer 22 frets and the smaller headstock but, neither is a deal breaker for me. Plus there's the David Gilmour vibe from it.

    Coincidentally I got an HSS Strat Delivered last Friday, a Fender Player Series in my ongoing (about 50 years) search for a Strat - indeed a Fender I could feel some love for. 22 frets, Pau Ferro fingerboard Sunburst. Whats not to love you may ask? It also has a Floyd Rose. Fit and finish very good, nice slim neck it just might be a 'grower'

      I used to crave thin necks when I was young but so many guitars I owned over the years had thicker necks. I love my Player series Lead II, but the thin neck gives my thumb cramps since it has no idea where to go, after coming from the thick necks. Playing with the thumb under classical style sucks for bending, but wrapping way over feels awkward. Working to find that happy medium and retrain the muscles.

    Although you indicated that you heard little difference in the sound, I think the sound of the Sire is rounder, perhaps fuller. I also think that the Sire has a lot of added value in the form of extras, as you mentioned.

    The Sire is a great guitar, well finished, and so worth the money, i love mine , plays great, and the build quality and finish are exceptional, lovely solos John, classy

    Great video - great playing - great solos. I think the Sire sounded a bit more "grown up", I hate to use the term "warmer", but that's my opinion. Or was it because I could see which one you were playing? Who knows. Given the choice, I'd take the Sire any day. Thanks again, John.

    Wow you outdid yourself playing on this demo! Good to know how awesome that Sire is, CVs seem to be dropping the ball recently, which is why I got the Lead II instead last spring. Player series is the sweet spot now and for some models are as cheap as the Squiers.

    Just thought, strats or super strats with only master tone and master volume should add a kill switch in place of the other knob. Handy feature which wouldn’t add too much to production costs I’d imagine

    Top man John. Great little comparison.
    Where are you finding the Sires for that price? Everywhere I look they are creeping up toward £500 now

      Theres a vid in early Sept with footage of ordering it. 429 at Thomann, and 434 at Bax. As you say, they've crept up to 469 in the weeks since. Maybe John can flip his for a tiny profit lol.

    Today I ordered a Harley Benton Fusion 3 in Bengal Burst 'B' stock for £265 reduced from £333 - I know I got the Vintage Strat but it's got a Gremlin or 2 inside atm and I honestly ain't got time to chuck em' out - I wish I did have time but working long hours and I got to prepare for a Gig next week so I bought the Fusion which has saved me buying a Fender AM PRO 2 Strat or an American Ultra so saved me a good £1500 - After Gig definitely 100% fixing the Vintage Strat but right now I gotta play and leave the Soldering Iron alone...

      @@jeronimomartinezfabregas it's the old catch 22, got money but no time, whereas before I had all the time in the world but the bare minimum of gear, I used to play 5 hours a day and my live set was pretty hot, now I'm tired after work so I only really got weekends. Building a Guitar in this situation with an impending Gig is just too much, let me get my Gig out of the way and I'll sort out my Strat...just hope they don't want me back 🥴

      @@OzzyMandias I know what you mean Ozzy, I'm crunching down on more than one deadline at a time for work and haven't played in days...but at least you get to have a NGD more often! Hope you like the Fusion III, I unbox and play mine in a few vids on my channel if you feel like checking it out while you wait for yours 😉

  • @jeronimomartinezfabregas

    Loved the intro/chorus riff, which sounded a bit as if Layla had joined AC/DC...I think the squier sounded more to my liking, just a matter of taste I guess, but I just can't deal with the boat-paddle headstock, although I dislike the pearloid pickguard on the Sire, but that's not as bad as the squier headstock. I'll have neither though, my Harley Benton Fusion II HSH does it for me! 24 frets btw and the trem doesn't blow the tuning away either.

      A blender pot on the neck and bridge pickups is a good alternative, and very useful mod. Kill switches are great fun though, I have both on one of my Strats.

    Good comparison, but would love to hear the differences in the clean tones as well. What are your thoughts on comparison between a true American Standard Strat HSS vs the Sire S7FM? I have a Fender US Standard HSS 2007 (Fender American Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar with Rosewood Neck includes Diamondback Humbucker Pickup and Case - Sienna Sunburst Finish - 011-0100-747) and might be considering swapping/selling it to get the S7FM-TBL, but would need to hear from some of you YT's as to how they compare first. So far, all the videos I've found haven't compared the two.
    Thanks and Cheers!

    • @JRobsonGuitar
      @JRobsonGuitar  Před 2 lety

      Cheers mate, but did you miss the clean tones in the demo piece? The slightly "Knopfler-esque" verse section of the tune... plenty of clean tones on offer there. The Sire beats the MIM Player Series Strats hands down, but a 2007 USA Fender? It would be a close run thing & it would depend on how attached you are to your Fender. Personally, I like the feel of the Sire necks which feel like they belong on a Custom Shop instrument. Try one & see how you get on.

    • @russtyruss_i-Invest

      @@JRobsonGuitar Oh no, I may have missed that, and though I did find another video only on the Sire with those, I will listen again and thanks for not only replying but for pointing that out. My apologies as I tend to multitask a lot. I suppose I should keep the Fender, buy the Sire and try first before selling so as to not regret it. My interest in the Sire is that it would put over 1k$ back into my budget, being only an amateur player even though I did record a few songs of my own available on N1M but not generating any revenue (yet), the Sire would suffice and if later on I created and marketed more music and would want to get a Fender again I would likely be able to afford it more. I do love the feel, the sound and the fact it's a genuine Fender, indeed. Thanks very much, great videos and advice at that. Cheers!

      @@JRobsonGuitar Ahh, I just realized, yes I did hear the clean tones, but they were over/under chords being played on the vs guitar. What I meant was it would have been sweet to hear those tones and on each setting as standalone, and again I would love to see a video comparing the Fender HSS vs the Sire. Haven't found one yet. Thanks again.

    Looking at the specs for the Fender Squire Popular Body, Sire Alder, Bone Nut , Fender decided to go for the cheaper wood, in quality Sire hands down, looks Sire hands down, I would take a Vintage V6 over a classic vibe it has 22 frets, the Wilkinson Alinco pups and trem system blows the Classic Vibe away, my two choices would be your Sire John and Vintage V6,

  • @mikenorman6697

    To my ears the Sire sounded a little more transparent and articulate with a tad less midrange than the Squier. Possibly the Squier was a little hotter....or gave the impression of being hotter as I think it had more midrange than the Sire. So I think sound wise I prefer the Sire. Also I thought the humbucker in the Sire was splittable to some extent? If I have remembered this correctly - then this gives it more flexibility over the Squier.

  • @SidBonkers51
    @SidBonkers51 Před 2 lety

    Clearly two nice guitars John but I'm not sure its really fair to compare them when one costs 33% more than t'other.
    Regarding the extra fret, I love vintage Strats and you can always bend the string at the 21st fret to find the 22nd.
    I do however agree that Squier really should supply the CV's with bone nuts as its such a cheap upgrade that can make an audible difference but is not easy for most people to change themselves.

    • @JRobsonGuitar
      @JRobsonGuitar  Před 2 lety

      The point of the comparison was to see if the Sire was worth the extra hundred quid. I'm sure I mentioned that 😀👍

    The S-3 does not come with locking tuners. The saddles on the trem are cheap. Other than that it's the same as the S-7. The S-3 would have been a better comparison to the Squire. The
    sire is obviously the better instrument. S-3 does not come worth locking tuners and the bridge saddles are of a lower quality metal than the S-7 has. The S-3 is 399 USD or 313 quid. How much does that S-7 weigh? Do you know?
