- If I had to recreate the #guitar #tone I get without breaking the bank, I think I'd probably do it like this. Check out the gear mentioned via the (non-sponsored) links below:

That's superb advice. I know, I've always spent too much for stuff you don't need. It's about playing and enjoying the endeavour. 👍
The shootout with the BluGuitar and the Jim's 45 sounds interesting John
It is amazing how much can be done for such a low cost.
Off to listen to some more John Mayall,
I would suggest a Tonex one. More versatile and you don’t need to use all the available models. There’s plenty of good Marshall tones. And you also have a reverb and compressor. I think it also works as an interface.
Thanks John. Love the tee shirt 😊
I use a Behringer X8500(?) mic into the UM2. I've had both for 2 years, used at least 3 or 4 times a week and never a problem. Gotta love that hard tail fusion!
Awesome playing at the intro , and great tone too!
I bought one of those Jim's 45 pedals, and it's just brilliant. I used it at a band bash, and I've made a couple of videos for my channel with it. It's such a simple, but great pedal. It sounds massive.
Most excellent guitar faces John! 😉
For the real budget conscious, I think the Line 6 POD Express is worth a look at...
Thanks for sharing John 🎸🎶🎵
An LP Custom and a Marshall JTM 20 combo amp.
The Jim's 45 looks interesting at $200CAD in Canada. (Lion is $550CAD!) I bought the Line 6 POD Express at $240CAD with 8 FX, 4 ODs and 7 amps all adjusted by 5 knobs like proper amp. Runs on 9volt, or 3AAs. Stereo headphone cabinet simulation sounds really great. I get good enough Marshall, Fender and VOX tones I shelved my little Quilter Superblock UK. Also, John didn't mention his old favourite, the Blue Cat Free Amps VSTs which have a Marshall (Classic Drive) amp as well as Clean and Lead amps for use in a computer but you need a free DAW which makes it a bit more fiddly. They sound great if you're only recording and don't need a pedal unit.
Daftest thing I ever did was buy an Alesis Quadreverb back in the day. A shed load of money and I only ever used one preset on it.
There's never been a better time for guitarists. You can get amazing guitars for great prices. Harley Benton do some great guitars for under £200 and the likes of EastCoast are really impressive for the money. The key is to forget the big names and not be a snob about what's on the headstock. Get the base model that suits you and you can always upgrade pickups etc as you progress and get more money down the line. If playing live, the bulk of the budget should go on amp/speaker, as that's where the tone will ultimately come from.
The squire affinity I got off Amazon is a belter. Fender have done a good job improving those guitars
Haven't played an Affinity in ages. I should check out the new ones.
@@JRobsonGuitar on offer at £195 at the min on Amazon John . I know this cos they went down a week after I paid full whack!
I have a fairly extensive collection-if I had to get rid and start over I would get a 80s tokai silver star strat, a epiphone p-90 special and would build a 5E3 anp
Tuner...wah wah..blues driver...trem...delay...rc 3 looper..into fender blues jr special edition...plug in guitar dial in..btw the perfect setup for blues, pedal wise..
great video... as allways 😉
PRS SE Custom 24-08 (HSH w. Split Coils) or Tremonti (LP with a Trem!) + Crowther Hot Cake, MXR Analog Chorus & TCE Alter Ego into amp or DAW should do the trick. Never come across that TCE 'Marshall' Pedal - looks interesting! The SE Custom 24-08 has been on sale here for less than 200 quid!
I just ordered the Squier debut tele to do a review cause we can't get them in the states. I was hoping to offer a budget friendly tele option. It got thoroughly trashed in shipping, and bridge pickup was caputz. Maybe you could review one? I ordered another but fear it will be in the same condition. The affordable market is producing much better quality, than when I first started playing.
Fine for recordig , but what about an amp for playing live.?
Just get a Katana, it seems that's what everyone else does 🤣👍
You still need some monitors unless you’re happy with your computer inbuilt speakers 😬
I was also wondering what kind of monitors and at what price he's using.
Used Ultra Max HAGSTROM LES PAUL with Roland Blues Cube amp.
That`s easy, just a Tele, and Solid State amp. recently sold a tonne of gear that was just gathering dust, (guitars included.)
Tubeworks TD752 amp MIM Tele Tuner Maybe a Boss Blues Driver.
Sorry, I just plug in p90 guitar straight to Fender amp, turn up & play. All the rest is lost on me....
The eternally great tone.
@@jimmyjames2022after wasting my “coin!” on countless guitar candy, looking for the “holy grail” tone, I still go back to . . . . . . Guitar plugged into amp! 😊
Broke..... selling my guitars, hold onley one and a line 6 amp! Like it as we speak! 😜
Hello John, do you still own your Marshall amp or did you send it packing?
No, it's still here. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it's a Marshall 🤣👍
Hi John, just wondered what monitor speakers do you use? Also, what would you need after the Jim's pre amp pedal to power a speaker if you didn't go through the computer/daw. Thanks
I use PreSonus Eris 3.5 monitors. These are powered so (as long as you sort out the relevant connectors) you could go from the pedal into the powered speakers.
Cheers John, 👍
And then comes Win 13.
Gibson 335 with bigsby
You have a very different definition of "if I was broke" 😋
@Boghopper9999 Thought he said if you had to sell everything and start again that what I would do I have six guitars that might add up to a 335
Equidistant between teles and les pauls?! Talk engerlish man! 😆😉
If I was broke I wouldn’t be buying gear
Rather different for me. It's how I make my living.
@@JRobsonGuitar well I kind of meant I can’t buy gear when I’m broke.
But budget options, sure…

Cheers mate 👍
