    Inspection Palpation Percussion Auscultation for Nursing is part of the general survey and is a skill that is used in all patient assessments when completing a physical examination.
    Inspection palpation percussion auscultation, known as IPPA is a physical assessment technique that helps guide various focused examinations such as those of the lungs, abdomen, cardiovascular system, and more.
    The technique of completing your IPPA for nurses and nursing students in healthcare settings may look different than those in a community or home care setting. Ideally, if we can visualize the skin, that is the best case scenario for getting complete data.

    How does changing the order of these steps affect the bowel sound? And sometimes, why do we palpate last?

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  Před 3 lety +5

      We palapate last for a couple of reasons. If there is pain, the patient may refuse further assessment. Palpating is known to increase bowel sounds - and you want to assess them without having influencing a change.

    Is IPPA the correct order or it should be IAPP

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  Před 9 měsíci

      IPPA for everything but the abdomen (which I realize I show the abdominal assessment). You are correct to auscultate before you palpate

      For the abdomen, auscultate before percussion and palpation so you do not influence the assessment
