  • First look at a Technics SU 8011. It came non-functional. I have a couple of videos on this repair detailing the diagnosing process and general clean up.

Hey man, I have an issue with my Technics, I have output only through the left side, all fuses are in good shape, what could be the reason?

Could be lots of things, really. Number 1 suspect in this era of Technics is bad electrolytic caps, if it uses an STK powerpack, you'd need to check that out, if it has a relay for the speakers, that could be dodgy, solder joints could be going bad, switch contacts could have some corrosion...it's a long list. Start with where your signal comes into the unit, and check along the signal path. It's probably not hard to trace, especially if you can get to the underside of the PCB. Is it the same model or different?

Those STK modules were hot garbage. Not only were they a big cost-cutting measure, but they failed quite often. I've seen it in receivers that were only a few years old

It was a pretty big innovation for the time, and as with most new tech, it had its issues. From a manufacturing stand point they made an attractive and compelling case. Time hasn't been kind to them though. The main problem now is finding genuine replacements, or at least good modern made substitutes. Some of the cheaper ones are diabolical. I can still source some genuine ones, but never the ones I am looking for. It's hit a miss.
Some clever people on audiokarma have worked out discrete based replacements - quite involved, but for many the only practical solution.
