    Disclaimers:
*Note: Ariana Grande photo is photoshopped - a mistake on my part.
In regards to Zendaya as the thumbnail. Yes, she is mixed. She was not placed in the thumbnail because as an example of racial ambiguity, but rather on her discussions regarding race. Also, the video is short so I could not touch upon certain discussions like fetishization of mixed race 'features' which bleeds into the topic of glorifying racial ambiguity as a whole.

I was born in 1987. I’m mixed Cambodian + Black + Spanish and other stuff. Everyone around me told my entire life that my “look” is the look of the future and not to be insecure about it. I have ambiguous features. Nobody can figure out my ethnicity. Ever. I guess everyone was right 😂 I wouldn’t change me for the world

Being mixed myself (mexican-spanish-filipino) I find the trend of looking "racially ambiguous" funny when I was young, kids called me "mestizang sunog" 😪 (burnt mixed girl) because of my tan skin lol

A fellow pinoy. Have strong Chinese heritage and although i didn't have the same looks prejudice they were talking about if i have stake at a family business. Chinese mixed families are stereotyped to have family businesses lol. I don't!
Also wanna say your skin is beautiful, I can just imagine it. It's too bad colorism and mixed races are scrutinized and biased at.

It's disgusting because it's still very much based on ANTI BLACKNESS

    • @llsss777
      @llsss777 Před 6 měsíci +2

It’s not “ANTI-BLACKNESS” because you or anyone can be PRO-BLACK and step up for black issues without other races having to shun loving & appreciating their heritage. Everyone should appreciate their heritage and race, if you don’t and you hate yourself that is some trauma you need to resolve within yourself. Other non-black races appreciating their race or races is not anti-black this is such a projection. Non one of a moral compass wants to be anti something so stop pushing this narrative on to others

Same….I some thought I was cute I. High school and now I get so much attention as a 29 year old. I get told I’m so beautiful I’m intimidating and yeah I lost weight and acne cleared but it was also because mixed race/racially ambiguous looks are now the standard because I literally get chosen or applauded over blonde and blue eyes Ashley’s and that was the standard when I was in high school.
      The tables have turned completely

I’m mixed too, half white quarter black quarter Korean I was also made fun of for my nose and freckles and having light hair but dark eyebrows/lashes so they always accused me of dying it. What I don’t like is how people pick and choose I.e. I’ve witnessed girls getting lip injections and then claiming to be black after… then people questioning if I really am cuz my lips don’t look like it. Men fetishizing me all my life obsessing over giving them “pretty babies” and women harassing/lashing out at me cuz I need to stick to my “own kind”

Nothing wrong for having pride in who you are, and I love that different groups of people are finally getting recognition. But it’s quite obvious that u being made fun of was centered around anti blackness. It was your black features that got you made fun of ( big nose and lips) but not your other ones.

I’m not half anything but some think I am. I guess I am techno “mixed” 🙄 tho. The meaning of that term fluctuates so much that it’s ridiculous. Eh… you can be ambiguous whether you’re mixed or not. I love seeing racial ambiguity in people. It’s beautiful.

Am thankfully am not on social media or following any of this beauty influencers so am thankfully behind and all these "trends" but it's ridiculous everytime i catch a glimpse of this junk. Am truly concerned for the health of young adults who are being exposed to this.

Note: it’s been pointed out to me that the photo of Ariana Grande after has been photoshopped - a mistake on my part. Ignore that photo; I think the overarching point still stands, however. 💖 Apologies to anyone offended or upset by that.
Edit: some people are also upset and offended that I used Zendaya for the thumbnail, she is not featured in the video as an example of racial ambiguity I believe (but as an example of mixed-race features which are ‘desired’), because she is not racially ambiguous, but mixed race. I did not specify that Zendaya was racially ambiguous, which is not why I used her as the thumbnail. Rather, her discussions on colourism, what is an acceptable POC/POC features, the taking of certain features to be palatable to certain audiences and the fetishization of mixed race 'features'. To quote Zendaya herself, ‘I Am Hollywood’s Acceptable Version Of A Black Girl’ - this video was not long enough to circle around the entire discussion of colourism, mixed race identity and racial ambiguity, so I may have missed a few things on this discussion. I understand how that could've caused some confusion, however; by putting Zendaya next to the words of 'racial ambiguity' in the thumbnail.

No Im not flattered. My thick eyebrows and huge eyes are what used to make me different. White girls used to make fun of my thick dark eyebrows and east Asian features in school….and now look at everyone just drawing and tattooing them on. A white guy made fun of my hair and said it looked like a wig bc it was so thick and dark. Now everyone all of a sudden has thick dark hair.

I hear what you’re saying! ❤️ I can see why people would be irked by being made fun or or bullied for a physical feature which everyone now embraces. I think ultimately people should find a look they are comfortable with and suits them. Who knows? Tomorrow, the beauty standards may change. 💖

I don’t consider my self mixed but I found out that I am 60% European 20% indigenous 10% Asian and 9% Native American, I am Mexican American and that’s how I am about. I get confused sometimes with what i am after finding out my ancestry. sometimes I don’t want to think about it, I am not too fair but also not too dark, I am in between. People sometimes mistake me for Asian or other.
