I'd love to figure out how to program the FUSION stuff from the software I use (RT Systems; I have a Mac and the free Yaesu software doesn't work) but maybe I don't need to. Hello Greg. Glad to read your report on the good experience with Yaesu Fusion. You might consider checking Texas Nexus #21636, CQ UK #27793, Ohio Link #40557. There are many more good Wires X rooms. Look here for room listing www.yaesu.com/jp/en/wires-x/id/active_room.php MNWis hosts a technical net every Monday night at 7 :30PM Central time where you can learn some of the latest discussion on Fusion topics. See wp.hamoperator.com for additional info, The software, Yaesu and RT Systems, does not restore the room information on the FT70 to my knowledge.

    Can you do a comparison video of the FT-70DR vs the Baofeng radio? I currently own a baofeng and I'm exploring on the benefits of upgrading to this radio.

    • @mmlanger55
      @mmlanger55  Před 5 lety +1

      My reason for the videos is to help our new local Yaesu System Fusion users. So I can't offer you the video you are requesting. But I will say that there is only one reason to own a Baofeng: the price. Other than that there is no comparison. For the money, the Yaesu FT70 offers you so much more in quality, performance and features. I believe you will find other helpful comparisons available to you online.

    • @larhouser
      @larhouser Před 5 lety

      I have both baofeng and yaesu hts and like them both for different reasons. I use the 70dr when I'm traveling to other areas because the memory banks and good scan rate allow me to load a bunch of repeaters into memory and then call up specific banks of them while we travel. I'm just starting to explore the digital side of the device but the FM side is bomber. A couple of negatives that may effect you on the 70dr, the mic/headset Jack disconnects really easily during field work (I put gaffer tape over it and that helps). No frs/gmrs so during CERT events you'll need a second radii. Or use the baofeng like I do.

  • @jamesstuder5045

    I agree it is a great video. My main question is where did you learn these keystrokes? I've gone through the regular and advanced manual and cannot find anything resembling what you did. It definitely works as I tried it but I'd really like a clear and concise reference that gives this type of information.

    • @mmlanger55
      @mmlanger55  Před rokem +1

      I'm glad the video is still providing a service. It's been some time since I produced it and I can't honestly say how I came to know the radio. I might have read it or I might have played with it until I got it. Either way, I knew that it was time to produce the video when my mind was fresh with learning the radio. Nothing wrong with any Yaesu portable, but the FT70 is still my favorite.
      The operating manual found on the Yaesu.com website under FT-70DR files is described as "(including the Wires X function information)" and does describe how to use the features. But the information does not jump off the page. It takes a bit of effort to follow.

    • @mmlanger55
      @mmlanger55  Před 5 lety

      You will input the number associated with the hardware you are using. With a Wires X connection (strictly Yaesu), use the number that Yaesu offers on its own cataloging. Check their updated system: www.yaesu.com/jp/en/wires-x/id/active_room.php
      For an Openspot or Pi-Star based device, use the YSF number: www.pistar.uk/ysf_reflectors.php
      The FCS numbers cannot be entered into the FT70D to my knowledge. That selection will be made on the device.

You have to have the code numbers for the rooms you want, then enter that number in the "eN" screen. Once you enter the 5 digit number for the room, it should connect. But I think you have to look up the room numbers on Yaesu's website from what I gathered.

    • @mmlanger55
      @mmlanger55  Před 5 lety

      Hi Mike. There are many videos here on CZcams that will instruct you on using the new digital technology. You do not need to register your FT70 with Yaesu. That is only necessary to operate a local node on radios that are capable of doing so. The FT70 does not. But it does offer you RF access to repeaters, nodes and hotspots providing you C4FM digital service. System Fusion is not as complicated as you might think. Enjoy the learning process.

    • @mmlanger55
      @mmlanger55  Před 4 lety +1

      Wires X memories are retained once they are programmed even though you power it off. YSF reflectors from hotspots and Openspots are not stored as they are not within the Yaesu standard.

    • @n5pa
      @n5pa Před 4 lety

      That explains why they are not retained by the radio. Makes it a pain to use a hotspot, though. I like using the DMR radio with the Hotspot because you can program the channels with the frequency of the hotspot and the Talk Group you want to use.

    • @mmlanger55
      @mmlanger55  Před 4 lety

      @@n5pa Yaesu designed the features for the Wires X hardware and software. The hotspot is a great accessory but they do not offer complete compatibility. DMR may seem easier to you but I would take the flexibility of Wires X software (Rooms, Nodes, PDN's, etc.).

      Nothing has changed. I use Wires X every day to control 4 repeaters and 3 hotspots. Sometimes the PC on a node station needs to be restarted. In the meantime, it works to pass audio but will not be available to Wires X commands. And remember, if signals have multipath or are weak, Wires X does not have the aggressive error correction that digital narrow voice offers. Be sure and talk to the repeater owners. Maybe they can help you.

    • @mmlanger55
      @mmlanger55  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, you are limited to 5 saved rooms. The manual states that C0 is "the most recent connected node ID or room ID screen." See page 31in the manual for a good explanation. The FT-70D has limited screen capability, so you cannot see the callsign ID while in the Wires X mode.
