    Heck, I put two 10x5x2mm magnets on my SOG PowerPint to keep it closed. The magnets don't move, no matter how fast or slow I open the tool. They never block the plier head from closing. Basically turns gives the PowerPint the PowerLitre closure feature. Locks in the bit driver to the SOG PP well too.

    I feel like if they made an "Upgraded" Wave, For instance. Maybe 154cm for the blades instead of 420hc, And get rid of the eyeglass driver for a Awl, But keep around the same price. It'd get more popular again

    The Wave was really the last groundbreaking multitool when it was introduced 25 years ago. The fact that there are multiple clones coming out 25 years later is a testament. The ARC is great but its more of an evolution from the Free series. A well broken in wave is an amazing multitool. It would be a mistake to discontinue it.

    • @blade9292
      @blade9292 Před měsícem

      Technically it's the wave transposed to the free system. It's mostly the same tool set.
      If it was only a bit more expensive than the wave it could be a "remplacement", but as it is now and due to the prices keeping older tools allows people to still afford a Leatherman.
      And to be honest replacing the models is just a bad idea as people who wants their old tool replaced will receive something else...

    • @seanrobinson6407
      @seanrobinson6407 Před měsícem

      I agree. Leatherman is going the "status collectable expensive for older wealthier men route" in my opinion. Gone are the days where they corner the market on a fairly practical innovative reasonably priced tool. The clones are crushing it, and newer models are not really groundbreaking.

  • @DeusNyx

    I'd love to buy the Arc, but at £260, I wouldn't dare take it to work. - which is the main reason for my multitools. My Wave already did a disappearing act once, and I only retrieved it two hours later, because a fellow co-worker 'put it in his pocket by mistake.'
    Our family some times goes camping. So a Wave/Surge/Bibury Pro does the job pretty well.
    If I bought the Arc, it wouldn't leave the house!

    For Multi-purpose knives, I would rather pick Victorinox over the T4 or K4. Hell even if Victorinox has lousy blades, I will pick Spyderco + Victorinox over the T4 or K4.
    And agreed, I would pick the Surge over the 300 for Heavy Industries. The 300 has no "Outside System" at all, and it is not cheap either, it is almost 200 Singapore dollars in my country.
    The Micra sux and is overpriced costing near to a hundred Singapore dollars. It is unfortunate that the Squirt and Juice series which is better but got discontinued due to the unprofitable nature of the 25 year warranty claims, which Leatherman couldn't reverse.
    The Rebar is overpriced and not worth it. I would pick the budget China Clones like Daicamping/SQT/Dakoyu/Bibury over Rebar/Wingman/Sidekick/Bond/Bolster/Curl any day.
    However I do agree that Leatherman might one day abandon the Wave or even the Charge... Those China Clones are really good at duplicating. With cheaper overhead and manufacturing cost those China factories can produce almost identical multitools for a much lower price. The overhead for being "USA Made" is too high and costly. Since the patents expries, I suspect Leatherman aren't going to compete with overseas manufacturing on these easier to copy platforms... even Charge is easily cloned as we've the DL7; 2048A; DK1 etc...
    I think even the 300, Surge and Micra might soon face the heat. The DL30 is doing fine over Surge as being a more worth it tool as a Blade and Scissors platform, additionally not so heart-pain if it gets stolen. In my country, I don't see a lot of people willing to pay a hundred Singapore dollars for a multi-tool, not especialy most people in my society no longer D.I.Y. Wave cost over 200 Singapore dollars in my country without discount.
    I think in my country, those rich or well-to-do would rather save that 200 dollars budget of the Wave and save it for the S$500 Arc, Hell even the Charge cost almost S$300 in my country and the Titanium version is close to S$400. instead of paying 200+ bucks for the Wave or 300+ bucks for the Charge, just top up slightly more and get a fully "Outside" System. Maybe the D.I.Y. culture isn't as prevalent as the US so most people in my country don't have that dust that clog up issue, therefore I do foresee the Arc slowly replacing Wave or Charge as the choice over here.

    I love the Leatherman Wave. It offers something for everyone and is very versatile. The Wave is their best-selling tool and for good reason. Very few people wouldn't like this tool, in my opinion. I like the second generation because they simplified the number of flat head drivers. It wouldn't far well for them if they discontinued the Wave. I think it would severely hurt the company to a fraction of what it is today. The Arc is nice but wouldn't take its place.

    Abandoning the Wave? Left in the dust? How? Not really sure what that means in the context of Leatherman's "best Multitools" list. Ttruth be told, the Wave *isn't* the best Leatherman product for some of the mentioned categories. Not to mention, Leatherman is a successful business that has recognized that sales of the Wave don't need any help, and will be more prone to encourage sales of other models - and not surprisingly, their *newest* model - making their business even more successful. Haha, they haven't 'abandoned the Wave'. They are still riding the Wave's crest and will likely do so for quite some time.

  • @richardhenry1969

    Personally i believe leatherman lost their way. I don't know if its corporate greed or marketing. I don't understand marking tools out of one steel.
    Then charging $200+ because you added a blade with quality steel.
    They could make a blade with 14c28n. It would be better then everything out there and still be cheap to make.
    If im gonna make bits they are gonna be the best i can make. They fail there as well. Im not even sure some bits are heat treated.
    I don't even see leatherman being better then the clones. The $30 clone i have is worth the money. My last leatherman i don't feel like it was worth the money.
    Everyone says leatherman is better im not seeing that.
    The bit driver alone is a step up. 7cr is better then 420hc.
    $30 is better then $120.
    The Arc is way outside my range. Ill spend money on a good tool but the Arc does nothing for me.
    I can't be the only one? Im a old mechanic so tools have been my life. I learned brand doesn't mean anything. A no name wrench will do the same job as long as its quality.

    In Sweden they're darn expensive. A fully kitted Spirit X (with bitdrive kit) goes for 1.370 SEK.
    Skeletool = 1.000 SEK. - 95 USD
    Surge = 2.200 SEK - 211 USD
    Charge+ = 2.500 SEK - 240 USD
    Signal = 2.000 SEK - 192 USD
    Wave+ = 1.800 SEK - 172 USD
    Free p2 = 2.100 SEK - 201 USD
    Free p4 = 2.400 SEK - 230 USD
    I got a skeletool for like 700 SEK which is 67 USD which is decent enough. But for 1.000 SEK I can go and get a Spirit X without the bitdrive kit for the same price, like, it's laughable.
    And the skeletool felt a bit rough, I've watched videos that you have to oil/break them in or whatever. Like, wut? For that price? My Spirit X came flawless, no issues, was just to use it and it was buttery smooth.
    Leatherman can't stand as the top dog in the EU due to their price. Victorinox is more bang for your buck premium wise and the Chinese brands are coming in HARD with brands like Roxon in the lead. Leatherman is going down the Harley Davidson road in regards of mentality.
