I have only three vintage Victorinox knives, a Soldier from 1940, a pre-1967 Huntsman, and a late 1960s Spartan. The other 50 models I've bought new in the box and have used them over time. I don't call myself a collector because I don't like to just display my SAKs. Rather, they're part of my everyday life and I use them a lot. Today for example I used my 111mm Adventurer to cut a cake in the office. My colleagues were impressed. The length of the blade is perfect for that.

I have a Director that seems to be slightly newer than yours. It has the same scissor spring but the "flat" nail file. It is marked: "Victorinox Switzerland Stainless Rostfrei" on the mark side.
I also have a Executive that seems to be older than yours. It has the same single leg scissorspring as the Director and is marked: "Hoffritz" on the mark side. The "H" and the "F"s are taller than the other letters. On the off side it is marked: "Victorinox Switzerland Stainless Rostfrei". I had to replace the scales on it because they where just too damaged.
I love the size of these knives and i dream of a Rambler in this size! Atleast the phillips/opener tool.

I am going to have to go back through a box of my Dads items. I remember seeing something that looked like that but I didn't open it to see the tools. Saw his initials on it so it became an automatic keeper especially since our initials are the same but middle one stands for different names. So no Sr or Jr. Now I have another project to do LOL. Thanks for showing this. I may have something special well it is even if it isn't an old Director.

I can remember having a couple of these ,there were two patterns on the scales and were always very expensive for basically a executive without a keyring! The bad thing about them is the scales are fitted with double sided tape like 3ms . No surprise they were dropped?

So glad I found this video, you answer all of the questions I had about the Director. I've found one for sale and ordered it, hopefully it turns up! JB weld is epoxy btw. to be an annoying pedant for a moment :D

Thanks for taking the time to go through this one so thoroughly. When you briefly showed it in a previous video, it was the first time I had ever seen one. It's definitely an interesting pattern, and a very neat piece of Victorinox history. Cheers, buddy!

Looked at getting one on eBay. Not an inexpensive knife.

I recently found my father's engraved Director. I need to clean it up. What steps did you take to clean and polish the one featured in this video? Thanks!

I have a director / executive. In my investigation I have been told that on the orange peel the serration are finer and the reverse side is ground sharpened. !!! Your orange peeler appears to be like the newer executives. Just something to look into. What is the difference between the executive and the director???! I have not heard or known about the director until I saw your video. That’s for your video. My knife is identical to yours except I have red scales and the older, rarer orange peeler.
