    Your husband will absolutely love it man. I have the white edition, and what the camera doesn't convey is how the angled edges on the indices catch the light when you move it and it just sparkles. For reference, I have a Tudor BB58 GMT, and since I've gotten this watch about two weeks ago, I haven't worn any other watch. It is such a beautiful piece, and one of the very few watches when I saw it I said to myself I had to have it.

    Great honest review. You're the only person that has pointed out that seiko obviously seriously photo shop their pictures. I'm on the fence with the SPB303J1 but impossible to find one to view in person and I've read these also suffer from bezel alignment issues. Keep up the good work.

      Thank you! And thanks for watching! In general I find the higher end Seikos made in Japan suffer less from bezel alignment and I think it would be a little less obvious if it was off a bit with this one since it doesn’t have individual minute marks. In regard to the SPB303, IMO, in real life the blue bezel looks nothing like the photos. It looks like blue film over chrome-not my favorite at all. You might be able to see that on the white one I show in this video.

      Hello! Thanks for leaving such a nice comment, and it’s so nice of you to say that. I think if I put more time into CZcams it might but this is just a hobby for me when I have time. 🙈 Thanks again and have a great new year!

    I don’t know much about the functions and specifications but I really like how the watch looks. Would I be crazy to get one solely as a dress watch? Are there cheaper alternatives with the same/similar look and design?

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 2 lety

      I think if you want a dress watch I’d probably go with a regular Sharp Edge watch like the SPB169 which is essentially this minus the GMT (and minus $400 or so). Those are definitely dress watches where this one sort of blurs the line between sport watch and dress watch. Hope this helps!

    It’s a phenomenal watch for the money, that being said Mido released last year the Ocean Star GMT at about the same price range, maybe a little bit less with a true GMT function and an 80 hours power reserve. I bought one in blue at the beginning of the year and it’s awesome. The Mido have a ceramic bezel also!

    • @grahamyoung622
      @grahamyoung622 Před 2 lety

      Mido offers so much more value at the $900-1300USD price point than anyone else. Who REALLY cares about GMT functions anyway??? Sure, some of the coloured GMT hands/tips offer a nice contrast to the other hands and the dial

    • @porscheoscar
      @porscheoscar Před 2 lety

      I've been on the fence for that MIDO blue GMT. The brand has a big history in Latin America and was one of my father's favorite brands when he worked at a bank as stock broker. The black chrono seems really tempting too.

      @@discworldmort how is the outside AR coating holding up? Have you checked it closely yet? I'm a little hesitant when the do both sides of the crystal with AR coating on a daily wearer.

  • @balazsschweighoffer1404

    Great review. I very much prefer the asanoha pattern to the common sunburst dials.

  • @jackblah5842

    I just stumbled onto your channel, this is a really good review. I would prefer a matte bezel over a shiny ceramic for legibility. Anyone who has travelled and especially deals with connecting flight across time zones will grow to hate the "caller" GMT. It has never been explained to me why ETA or Sellita doesn't make a true GMT but it's nice to see that Seiko is doing it at an interesting price. This piece does seem more like a $1K.

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! I agree with you on the bezel, matte would be a lot better. I definitely prefer the bezel on my Tudor GMT. Grand Seiko has some beautiful engraved steel bezels that would look great on this too. And yeah I agree without that ceramic bezel it’s definitely a $1K piece and not a $1,500 piece.

  • @oldsnwbrdr

    Just picked this up on Chrono24. I like it a lot but I wouldn’t say I love it. The bezel is a little thin and I wish it was ceramic and had two colors. I wish the case was a pinch smaller. That said it is the best travelers’ GMT watch available right now for the price I was willing to pay.

    I'm right there with you on the editing that Seiko does. It drive me up a wall.
    I went to look at the green Sumo a couple months back. Online, it looks like a bright green. In person, it's a dark, army green; looks almost black in most light. I was really disappointed.

    I've no need for the GMT function, but I do like the power reserve indicator on the dial, and I think it's better looking than the non GMT version

      @joshswatches  Před 2 lety

      If you can get it for that I think it’s definitely worth your consideration!! However, if you don’t really want or need the GMT, the standard Sharp Edged watches are also $1,000 at retail.

    Valid points but honestly this watch is worth its price and more just on it's real gmt function. I wish Seiko makes a ceramic bezel and a GS version of this watch in 40 and 42mm. I would buy it over the Omega and certainly over the non existent Rolex. Tudor is crap to me so not in thoughts.

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 2 lety

      They do have a GS version with Spring Drive and it’s 40mm! It’s one of the more recent GMTs and you can even get it in green too (or black/blue). Ref SBGE257.

    Fabulous looking watches, however, the absolute killer for me is the ABSOLUTELY BIZARRE date subdial. I have never seen one like this, and it's just plain WEIRD, esp. with the 30 right next to the 1. It just looks DUMB!!!!

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 2 lety

      I completely agree. This is a Seiko thing that they’ve done for years so it’s not a new thing. As someone who uses their watch to check the date often, it’s not a very user friendly feature, I’d much prefer a date display.

    Counterpoint to your ceramic rant: if all manufacturers used the same inputs we would have no choice. You may have a point but it can have unintended consequences.

    • @joshswatches
      @joshswatches  Před 2 lety

      I totally agree - I’m not saying that all watches need a ceramic bezel, case in point, I actually like that my Tudor BB GMT has an aluminum bezel and not cerachrom. My point here was simply that it looks to me like they really wanted it to look like ceramic, and so for that reason alone I wish they’d just done ceramic.
