  • Jason Khalipa discusses the importance of working out and how it should be a non-negotiable part of every man's routine. We can always find excuses, but we choose whether to allow those excuses to become more important than the mission and vision that we have for our lives.

You don’t need a gym. Body weight workouts at home are just fine. Do it!

Yea recently gained 3lbs of muscle within 6 months I switched to purely calisthenics.i know this because I lost waist fat(4lbs) and my weight went up and my waist stayed small.

Couldn't prioritize working out with a 9-5, but I stopped making excuses and made the time. Whether that is waking up at 4:30am or staying up later (prefer waking up at 4:30am), I will never stop working out. If you want it badly enough you won't make excuses. Working out and boxing have done more for me in the past 3 months than therapy for 20 years. Men need to move and work out.

Every day is terrible. It takes the body 72 hours for the body to respond from the stress of exercise
The workout is a stressor and actual progress happens while your sleeping and not training. Working out the same muscle daily will cause you to loose muscle

I made a deal with my clients.
All they had to commit to was to suit up, drive across town, and walk thru the gym doors.
After that they could leave if they wished, or just do a little bit,
They never left until after working out.

I have found that working out is essential for all men. We need to be our best selves if we are going to be leaders. First impressions are important. A fit, well put together man with style and good grooming is going to command respect. You better back that up with action as time goes on, or the respect is taken away. Not to mention the health benefits as we get older. The positives of working out far outweigh the negatives

Journaling fine but for men, we need to be physical. It does absolutely no good to journal if your physical health is poor.

  • @Everest_Climber

You need good food (I think 90% are deficient in magnesium, which is used in over 300 chemical processes in cells). You need exercise to stimulate mitochondria. And "use it or lose it" is profoundly true - 8 hours after exercise your body starts to increase myostatin, which effectively causes muscle to be eaten by the body. If you don't use food/exercise to keep the myostatin at bay whatever muscle you have is going to vanish bit by bit over years. Until you are in your 50s+ with sarcopenia.
A couple of years go I saw a man in his 50s whom I've known since he was an athletic teenager, a rugby player. As a family man he was an avid golfer. When I saw him last I could see how his muscular frame had been eaten away and he now was just skin and bone. Golf is clearly not enough!

I've been restricted by my doctor for 3 months for no physical activity. Up until now I've lifted, done combatives, tactical training. I'm not in my best shape, but better than I was. The last 3 months going on 4 have pretty much taken away any desire to want to train. I just simply don't care anymore about it. I've become okay with being a gelatinous piece of shit. I've stopped carrying and started selling off some of my tools and gear. I have I job that requires 12 plus hours a day. I go in when it's dark and get off when it's starting to get dark. How does one come back from this. I'm still on restriction by my doctor not sure how much longer that will be.

Once your doctor gives you the green light, just go back to the gym and take it easy for a couple weeks. You’ll be fine in no time. It doesn’t take long to get back to your old self.

What will your Dr allow? My husband has had restrictions over the years, he’s missing multiple discs in his back, but he can still sit and do hand weights, yoga, etc….. He can’t even walk around the block with me, but those exercises don’t put any pressure on his spine. My husband has never been overweight so he doesn’t have any extra weight on his back/hips to cause more pain.

Personally I think it’s insane how many men don’t see the importance in a basic level of physical fitness, especially when they have families. You will never be able to prepare for everything. You can do everything right and still lose. None of that excuses you from putting in the effort to be in decent shape to care for your family and yourself. There is always a mountain of excuses. No one “has time for it” but they have plenty of time to drink beer after work, or surf Instagram, or watch Netflix or whatever other bullshit. Then comes the hyperbole, AKA “why do I need to be JACKED” or “why do I need to run a marathon”. You don’t. You don’t even need an impressive looking physique. How about just getting to the point of briskly walking a few miles without gassing or being able to do a few sets of 10 pull ups. How about just not being obese?

Just go twice a week. It’s better than nothing. And don’t put any big expectations on yourself. Don’t get pre workout anxiety. Just go in the gym and do 5 singles of deadlift or whatever lift you like best. Do 5 singles at like 80%, and then 5 doubles at 70%. Then do a couple of fluff and pump exercises like prone hams curls and Hammer machine rows or Hammer machine lat pulldowns. 3 sets of 15 for the fluff and pump exercises but the 3rd set is AMRAP. Once you get to 25 you bump up the weight 5 pounds next time you train that exercise.
