    Good to see they‘ve updated the grind adjustment dial. Makes the whole grinding experience better I would say. I own the SlimPlus and am pretty happy with the burr set. The only reason why I went with the SlimPlus instead of the C2 is because it fits into an AeroPress. If it‘s about budget, then this grinder is still a really great option!

    Got my C2 Max couple days ago, tried 27 clicks (from zero start) for French press and the nut seemed substantially loose, while the grind was only marginally acceptable with mostly larger consistent grinds as well as some unwanted powdery slurry that ended up as muck in the bottom of my coffee cup; left me wondering what I did wrong.

      @@TheBasicBarista Wow this quite a turn. Didn't know that Varia handgrinder (and the scale) exist till you mention it. Googled it, and guess what, I own the exact same handgrinder and scale but with diff branding (JINSEI). Other than that n the packaging, its identical. Main diff is the price. Bought the handgrinder n scale for less than 50USD. Seems like import-rebrand-markup x3 from them.

    • @TheBasicBarista
      @TheBasicBarista  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi mate, not too sure on exactly how many microns per click but the grinder does offer a good range to adjust and dial in for different brew methods.
      I believe the burr set remains the same as the original C2 and is not impacted by the new updates :)
      Hope this helps.

      The steps on this grinder are quite large, compared to other more expensive grinders. For example...
      12 clicks on the C2 is similar grind size of 36 clicks on a 1Zpresso Q2 - and similar to 100 clicks on a Kingrinder K6.

    Thanks for the vid. Very helpful. One question. I need coarse coffee for a percolator. Once you have the dial at zero where it stops, how many clicks do you then go back for the coarsest? Thanks again.

    • @TheBasicBarista
      @TheBasicBarista  Před 2 lety +4

      Hey mate thanks for watching!
      Glad you enjoyed the video.
      When you adjust the grinder all the way to the coarsest setting on the dial the actual grind adjustment will fall off, (this is how you disassemble the grinder to clean and maintain)
      Maybe start at around 30 clicks and see how you find that :) remember to dial in your coffee based on the taste! Not the grind size.
      Happy brewing!

    I just bought this grinder, and out of the box there is a pungent smell inside the grinder. I've ground around 20-30 grams of coffee through it but it still smells and the coffee tastes very astringent. The manual says not to use water or soap to clean. Could you recommend a way to get rid of the odors inside?

    • @TheBasicBarista
      @TheBasicBarista  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey Ayush,
      Thanks for your comment!
      Please do not wash this grinder, best to season your grinder with some coffee beans. Maybe burn through a couple hundred grams and see whether the flavour has toned down or not.
      If the smell is still present after you have seasoned your burrs best to get in contact with whoever you purchased the grinder from.
      Good luck & Happy brewing!
      Cheers

    • @GoTellJesusSaves
      @GoTellJesusSaves Před 2 lety +2

      Also, maybe try using a dark roast that has a bit oil sheen on the outside for seasoning, then follow that up with the coffe you enjoy.
      Not only will the darker roast put more oil on the burrs, but it will be MUCH easier to grind. Just a little of your favorite coffee going through afterwards will help to remove any negative flavors that the dark roast oil has left on the burrs.
      The seasoning will also help smooth out the flavor. Mine has gotten better and better with time - both the C2 and the Kingrinder K6. Loads better with plenty of use.

      Hey!
      Thanks for watching :)
      For my pour over's on the Hario V60 I tend to grind relatively fine, anywhere from 15-20 Clicks, depending on the coffee and some other variables this also expands to 20-25 Clicks.

      Hmm really sorry but I’m not too sure, I don’t have any experience with a Picopresso.

    How does it compare to 1zpresso q2?

    • @TheBasicBarista
      @TheBasicBarista  Před 2 lety +2

      Both grinders are around the same price, the q2 has some nicer materials and from a construction / build quality the q2 is undoubtedly superior.
      However I had some issues with the burrs rusting on the Q2, within 1 week of use the burrs had gone from shiny silver to dotted brown.
      I am not sure why this is and wether or not this issue has been resolved, it is also possible that there was only an issue my model of grinder.
      But that was an absolute deal breaker for me.

    Would this be a good grinder for espresso?

    • @TheBasicBarista
      @TheBasicBarista  Před 2 lety +3

      In some cases yes, in other and most cases no.
      This grinder can go fine enough for espresso however it will struggle with the range, meaning if you are dialling in and 8 clicks is too coarse, 7 clicks might be too fine.
      In my opinion a good espresso grinder is going to have enough adjustments so that you can dial in your coffee. You might also want to consider how often you make coffees, grinding for espresso on a hand grinder can be a whole upper body workout.
      Hope this helps :)

    • @TheBasicBarista
      @TheBasicBarista  Před 2 lety +3

      @@jpjay1584 Hi Jay,
      Theoretically yes, if you can add more indentations to the grinds adjustment this would make more positions for the clicker to sit in and make more adjustments.
      I am not sure that this would work and obviously attempting to do this would void any sort of warranty.

    • @TheBasicBarista
      @TheBasicBarista  Před 2 lety +2

      @@jpjay1584 Definitely could do that, I think one consideration would be whether or not the grinder would preform better with more grind adjustments.
      Doing this might technically work and create a position for the grind adjustment to sit on however the rest of the grinder is not built for this and could cause other problems and ultimately not be worth 'hacking' in the first place.
      You may experience slipping (having your grinder change adjustments in between grinding).
      In this case it would not be worth while to touch it in the first place, let me know if you have any success doing this :)))
