I bought a 1994 Bayliner Capri 1950 with a 3.0 Merc for $1500 with the trailer in 2014. I still have the same boat to this day. It looks like a 2010 and runs like a champ.

I have a 1989 capri 2150. 5.7 liter. I've had it for 6 years now. Played on the water a lot and needs some updating for sure. I watched your videos and decided to follow some of your restorations techniques. All I need to do now is carpet the floor and replace the wood support walls for the dash and the little closet area. Thanks for sharing your videos. Helped me a lot. Itching to get on the water.

Wow, this brings back memories. I bought this exact boat in 1988 new. It gave us many years of enjoyment and adventures.
    I paid $14,500 Canadian.
I just checked Bayliner 20.5 new bowrider, only with 6cyl. Comes in at
$58,000. I cannot believe the boat prices today. It is well worth spending money on this, to have the same enjoyment and pleasure as buying a new one. Lot's left over for gas, steaks and beer.
    Cheers from Toronto

I'm just finishing up a 1989 1750 Capri Cobra. Luckily the floor was in good shape. Had to replace all upholstery from the windshield back. Previous owner kept the bow covered but did nothing else to maintain it for the 6 years he had it. Wood under the transom cushion was rotten to powder. Every cleat and piece of hardware was loose. He put a couple hundred dollars into a 200W stereo system but I am hard of hearing so never listen to stereo music. All the wiring was just twisted together and taped. Even the ignition key was bare wires wrapped around the terminals. Side window was broken and somebody replaced it with Plexiglass. It turned out nice. After 6 weeks, I put it in the water last week but, now, I'm thinking it's too small for me. I had a 1984 1950 Cuddy with a Volvo back when it was new and it was the right size for me. So may be moving up like you. Sorry I didn't record my restoration but I learned a few things and techniques from you.

Don’t run it with lower unit so high, it puts lots of stress on expensive moving parts. Yea she’s worth what you paid for her. I restored a few in my days in same condition. It’s a shame people think cause it’s a boat, it can be left uncovered outside in all weather. Anything to me, if it’s worth owning, it’s worth taking care of. Good luck on it all

Really enjoyed watching this. So my granddad bought new an 86 Capri Cuddy. He passed in 04 and grandma sold it without asking if anyone in the fam wanted it. I have recently found where it ended up. I haven't talked to the owner but haven't seen it moved in the 2 years I've spotted it daily. Really tempting to inquire in buying it but scares me to think about what kinda shape it's in. But your video makes me reconsider... Especially if i can get it cheap.

Funny I used to work at a Bayliner dealership wen that boat was new ..1750 or 1950 ..they were built as a working man's boat at nearly half the price of other boats we sold at the time , the hulls were very thin .. but yet seemed to hold up ? I remember some factory problems on the 89 , the factory corrected them with "trim tabs " later that year ..the came with three drive line options of course Mercury being the most expensive at the time , or more dependable .. I believe the omc sterndrive was the most common leaving the Volvo Penta in last place , my boss who worked on boats for 40 years at the time used to say a boat is a whole in the water that people threw money into ..but for a starting price of $600 bucks your way ahead of the game . A new boat is payments for years , wasted .. but every dime you put in this boat is all yours , REGARDLESS of book value ..in the end it's paid for . And you get to run with people who will pay for years . Good job ...

I myself just picked up a 94 Capri 3.0 so what rotted wood can be fixed fairly easy the key to having these boats is the price that you can get them for and then you can spend as much money and time invested and make it your own comparisons to buying a ready to go for triple or more. The OMC Cobra stern drives are pretty strong... But you should never run the engine with the drive trimmed out like that..the drive shaft has u joints just like the drive shaft on a car or truck..u will destroy the u joints quick. That knocking noise you heard was that u joint.. always run with water like you did . And Always trim it down .
As far as Bayliner goes . They were pretty cheap and the quality wasn't the best.. but if you treated it right . Keep it in the dry youd be good..

I am working on a 1986 Bayliner Capri with a 5.0 engine. Got it for free for getting it out of the lake. Was in a boat house and the right rear lifting cable broke so the right rear went under water along with 2/3rds of the boat. Apparently it was under water around a month before the owner noticed. They had a pontoon boat also in the boat house which blocked their view. It runs great and I am repairing stuff which needed to be done before the sinking. Replaced a section of soft floor, ujoints, bellows, exhaust bellows. I am missing the ski access door in the floor. Don't know the official name. Both rear seat cushions on either side of the engine. And the long piece which runs across the back of the boat which flips over where the bimini top is stored. I assume these items floated away. Where did you get your foam and material you used to cover the plywood? Looks like you are located in Ga. So am I .
